"I enjoyed all of the opportunities that Alabama A&M University provided me in the graduate social work program. As a student, I was able to learn many techniques for the social work profession such as assessments while in classes. While working in the field as an intern I gained valuable experience that assisted me gaining practical knowledge in the social work profession. The graduate social work program was also able to provide me with a scholarship that greatly helped me in paying for classes. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone interested in pursuing their social work degree."

"When I graduated in 2012 with a BS in Organizational Management, I was married, a mother of five children, and grandmother to six grandchildren. However, my friend encouraged me to look into the MSW program at AAMU, and I applied before I left the USA on vacation. I was accepted, matriculated and graduated on time in 2014. It was challenging, but rewarding, and my teachers were exceptional because they were knowledgeable as well as caring and kind to the students. I had a wonderful experience! I recommend the MSW program at AAMU without hesitation, and I will continue to recruit students to attend AAMU for the MSW program. The faculty at AAMU rocks! Go Bulldogs!"

"Alabama A&M provided me with the training to be a effective Social Worker and the academic skills to complete my PhD program. They offer a master's thesis option which trained me in research and academic writing. I'm currently a postdoctoral researcher at an Ivy League university and A&M helped make that possible!"

"Alabama A &M's MSW program gave me the skills and training necessary to be an effective practitioner in the field of social work. Time and time again I go back to the tools and the theories learned in the program at A&M and find practical application in my work. In this MSW program, you have to be mature enough and driven enough to make use of every opportunity (i.e., term papers, readings, group assignments and projects) to prepare yourself for working in the noble field of social work. You won't be spoon-fed. It's up to you to seize every wonderful educational and training opportunity that will be provided for you. I work with people every day who received their MSW from UT Knoxville, Villanova, UT Nashville, and the University of Alabama. I know from my own experience that you will be just as prepared and in many cases more prepared by the program at Alabama A&M."

"Alabama A & M was a very positive experience. All faculty in the graduate social work department were readily available to assist in any way possible and provided excellence in the classroom. Once graduated, I was fully prepared to take and pass the licensure exam immediately as a result of the hands on teaching I received. The student body is high achieving and very supportive of one another in their academic and personal growth. I highly recommend this university to others. Faculty also assists you in preparing resumes to ensure excellent job opportunities."

"Alabama A&M equipped me with the real world skills to face the often times challenging field of social work. Learning to question ethical dilemmas, to think critically and to understand the injustice that exists within our world have been incredibly valuable in helping me to succeed in the field."

"In selecting a university I believe its important to research the community not just at the city level but also the community within your selected field of study. Also quality of education; does my teacher actually teach me or teaches at me. With Alabama A&M I had a strong community of teachers who sought to educate me, mentor me, motivate me and groomed me to become a competent social worker today. The administration issues have improved in some but if it was perfect and easy I wouldnt be as prepared for the twists and turns of adult life."

"This program was outstanding. The since of community and family provided by the faculty and staff lended to a safe and comfortable learning environment. For a mother going to school after working a full time job this was the most perfect program for me. The faculty challenged us, giving no room for underperformers. They were preparing us for the real world not simply preparing us to pass a test. They were cultured, world traveled, well rounded, educated, competent, passionate professors with a plethora of experience. In turn that inspired me to a bit more eclectic in my professional life and personal life as well."

"The MSW program at AAMU has adequately prepared me for every aspect of my professional work today. In the AAMU MSW program students are not just a number in a field of students, but individuals. I was a non- traditional student who went through a divorce, became a single parent and lost a parent while in the program and my professors helped me navigate these transitions, while remaining the academic honor society and graduate. Today I still feel the support of my professors and the classmates I had there when reaching out to network, ask for a recommendation or advice, or just to check in."

"Alabama A&M University is a great university! As it is a part of the HBCUs, or Historically Black Colleges and Universities, in the nation, it is definitely one that should not be overlooked. Providing a great foundation on service and ability to ensure all are successful and given the tools to soar in any and everything after the time here is what drove me to choose this great university! From the ever-helping faculty to ensure you are on top of your studies and not falling behind to the peers and student body who create such a welcoming environment with a balance of service, study, and leisure time to enjoy being a college student, this is definitely the place to be. As it is well-known here, you will absolutely love "The Hill"!"

"Alabama A&M University is one of the few state funded Universities in Alabama. It is also one of the few Agriculture and Mechanical which has its own land that is used for student use and hands on studies. The campus also known as "The Hill" is a wonderful place to learn. The professors and counselors are there for you every step of the way and help to make sure that you graduate and have a successful future."

"Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) provides students with the best instruction, hands on experience, and networking opportunities. Your professors are always available to help with your academic and professional needs. I first transferred to AAMU in 2007 from another institution and there I learned about how to apply for graduate and professional programs. The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences provided opportunities and internships that prepared me for standardize testing that wasn't previously available to me. The family atmosphere on campus helped me to become more community focused and offered the support I needed even after I'd graduated. As a Graduate Assistant, I instructed Biology and Chemistry, I was active in various campus organizations, I performed research, and participated in school fundraisers, all while completing my master's degree. I still communicate with all my professors which has open opportunities for me in research and also helped prepared me for medical school. AAMU will prepare you to be a highly competitive and well sought after job applicant and professional school applicant. Whether is in the STEM field, our nationally ranked(2nd in the country) Social Work program , our Engineering and Technology School (ranked 1st in the state of Alabama) , or our phenomenal business program, AAMU is sure to help you achieve your academic potential and career goals."

The institution stimulated me as an intellectual as well as an emerging professional. "Alabama A&M University provides students with not only a quality education, but also a cultural experience that will cultivate students personal growth. For students who are apprehensive about leaving home for school, A&M is an excellent choice because it provides a nurturing environment that makes student's college transition very simple. To me, A&M is, and always will be, a home away from home. There are a plethora of majors that students can choose from. The areas I suggest students to look into are: agricultural majors (such as Food Science, Environmental Science, etc.), Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business and/or Marketing. Although some students may feel intimidated by pursuing the hard sciences, students should not feel discouraged. A&M has small class sizes which allow students plenty of opportunities to build strong relationships with their professors and classmates. Also, most of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), fields offer funding for high achieving students. Food Science is an excellent major to pursue for students who are seeking an applied science. The department provides quality professionals who are committed to their students academic achievement, countless professional development and internship opportunities, and a small, family oriented, network. Food science is a unique discipline that encompases a diverse group of sciences such as, mathematics and chemistry, to analyze and assess the quality of foods before they are available for consumption. Also, food science is a broad area which allows students flexibility to do whatever they want to do within the field. Students who decided to major in food science at Alabama A&M will not be disappointed. A&M is one of the few Historically Black Colleges (HBCs) that has an accredited food science program. The program is rigorous, but it is not impossible for students wiling to adopt an assiduous work ethic. Most students who've graduated from A&M with a degree in food science, have gone one to work for various industries such as, USDA, NIH, Kellogg's, or Publix. Other students have been admitted into prestigious graduate schools to further their education. However, even if a potential student does not have an interest in science, I still suggest that he/she consider making A&M their college of choice. It has been proven that if you start here, you can go anywhere!"

"The pros of my graduate program include the diversity of professors and students, availability of professors, the feel that the faculty as a whole really care about your education, and feeling as if you have truly learned something and ready for the real world. The only con to the program that the location is 2 hrs away from my place of residence. I love my graduate program!!!!"
