"Never even got to the education part of the process, (though I did attend classes) The director and support staff are nothing short of a hot mess. They tell everyone different things, to get them to enroll. The instructors are ill-prepared (i.e. I signed up for remote learning, and the instructor told the class that we must attend 1/2 of our classes in person) There are problems with the technology, and you can't even log into their system to see your assignments. Absolutely everything about this experience is a negative one. A very unprofessional environment for "higher learning"."

"The administration in this school is absolutely horrible. So far I've only dealt with "advisement" and the transfer crew but based on these comments, the school has a big issue overall. And they ask you to pay them $120 before you can even see how many credits are transferred over. I already have my bachelors degree. That $120 is a A "commitment fee" - thats what they call it anyway. That honestly should be illegal. At this rate, if i am not allowed to register this week for the classes that i want, i will not be attending. The school is probably going to get closed down and thats a shame. Blame your admin and whoever runs this."

"Problems from the start applied in April, but did not find out I got into the program until a week before the fall semester started. Every time I called to check the status, they said to call back in 2 weeks or 20 business days. Finally found out by reaching out to the program director personally, and I received my acceptance letter weeks after starting the Fall semesters. I could not sign up for barely any classes and had to take courses that were meant for later in the program. No online classes are offered, which is huge for a graduate program as people have lives such as work and children. Very strict attendance policies that do not account for covid, sickness, disabilities, or family emergencies- too many and you fail the course you paid for. Very disorganized as whole for example, they did not have parking passes, said they would send an email when they came, never sent email and instead starting giving out tickets. When confronted they said it was a mistake yet did not take back the tickets?"

"The school is ok when you want a family feel. You meet so many different people. Very sociable school and plus its a hbcu. Most professors are knowledgeable and want you to succeed. Then you have others that are the opposite. The overall process of getting into the school is draining. You get very discourage and may want to reconsider going here because the administrative staff was highly disorganized (incompetent). Hardly could get in touch with anyone and when you would was given the run around. No one in the office had the same information or even on the same page. You could never get the proper instructions especially with financial aid/counselors and the student accounts office. Needs better improvement before it deteriorates people from coming to the school! The schools website itself, information in each departments, syllabus, rules/policies, students bull dog connection, etc needs to be all updated.Oh There needs to be straight point of contacts to talk to actual person instead of back and forth through emails. Sometimes making an appointment can delay a student in trying to start classes."

"Bowie State University's Counseling Department is CACREP recognized. This certification is the highest offered in the Counseling profession, and is a testament to Bowie State's commitment to both teaching excellence and quality research. Bowie State's graduates are active throughout the counseling field, and are making a practical difference in communities across the country. The counseling department is truly forward-thinking, as they are adding a new addictions training program that will utilize cutting-edge techniques to equip leaders. I am excited to be a part of a program that is making a real impact in the mental health arena, and attracting innovative and diverse graduate student leaders."

"I started at Bowie State because I wanted to attend an HBCU. Bowie State was not far from where I lived and it had a good reputation. I felt like I needed to pursue a higher degree and looked at a few different schools. I choose Bowie State because I heard that they had a good program for education. They didnt let me down. The course was rigorous, the teachers were fair and the experience was great. The professors were knowledgeable about what we would expect and experience in the classroom. I was fortunate enough to work provisionally while I was enrolled in the program and the insight and knowledge that I gained from my instructors really made the difference in my early years in the classroom. When I had issues in the classroom I had a wealth of resources to rely on for advice and assistance. The cohorts at Bowie State were helpful in making my transition from Corporate America to teaching seamless."

"Bowie is a great school, I learned a lot from going there. You gain some what of a family when you attend the school. I am so happy I went. I gained a lot of friends and knowledge. The location is great, nested right in between DC and Baltimore. There is a train right on campus to get you to either...enjoy!!!"

"I love the bachelor program at Bowie State university offered. The communication program has plenty of options, for people that want to do it all. Emerging Media is the concentration that I choose at Bowie State University. This concentration provides you with the skills required to pursue careers in content programming, sales, advertising, and administration within both traditional and emerging technology industries."

"Bowie State University was a wonderful surprise for me. Many students attend Bowie State for convenience and I can't say my reason for attending was much different. Most professors will work with students and clearly outline course expectations early on. Various activities, many ways to be involved on campus. I would recommend to any student interested in pursuing nursing, professional studies or communications."

"The campus is small and you can get 1 on 1 time with the professors. However the natural science department needs more funding. Great for business, education, or communication majors."

"Bowie State University is a great school if you want to become an educator. The education program requires that you complete a year long internship with 128 credits to complete the program. The history department also has great, insightful professors who are very helpful and qualified in their fields. Downside: the administration office is unorganized and careless at times. Paperwork will easily be lost and it is hard to get the desired assistance when trying to settle financial matters."

My experience here is a one to remember because you'll meet excellent faculty, staff and peers that will be great connection in the future. This university has great programs from computer technology, business, nursing, social work and more. Also, the student life on campus is awesome, there are several different organizations and events that goes on during the semester."

"This school wasn't challenging for me. It was good to attend this school to network and meet different people getting a hbcu vibe . the social life of the school isn't what I would call ideal but it is something . Depending on what you want to do with life after school I would recommend that you attend Bowie State"

"The courses in the program are excellent and have prepared me to become a Counselor, however the faculty are extremely difficult to contact and are not very accessible to students. The comprehensive exam does not prepare you take the exam for licensure."
