  • Degree: Music
"While I think Cal Poly as a whole is fantastic, the Music program was embarrassing. While I went the "Music Industry Studies" route, the program as a whole was terrible. There was no audition to be admitted. There were kids graduating who couldn't read a line of music, and the standards for basic music classes were so low. So low. Lots of kids wanted to be DJs, make electronic music, or just wanted to have fun. The program leaves you without any real competency for any kind of career. Luckily I started down another career path halfway through my degree. If you're looking for a serious music program, go somewhere else."

"As someone who was uncertain of her future career path, Cal Poly Pomona was an excellent school to quite literally get my hands dirty. Concepts are generally explained, examined, and then put into practice, so if you want real life situations where you'll be learning your future occupation head on, then Cal Poly Pomona is an excellent choice. I will mention that some of the facilities are outdated and the school is making vast improvements year over year, but is struggling to keep up with the larger and larger population. One other thing to consider: get good walking shoes and at least an hour head start to any class that you can. Parking has always been difficult and always will be difficult in a campus of that size. Find the lot you like the best, and try to stick to it as much as you can!"

"The Psychology undergraduate program has an immensely rigorous plan of study. The course flow has very much needed content in regards to fundamental concepts, foundations in practice, and specializations in various areas of the field. Such content include Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Industrial Organization, and many theories classes. Furthermore, the educators are very well versed in their teachings and many are research oriented. This leads to experts in academia who have their doctorates with the capacity and capabilities to teach students how to become future leaders either in industry or academia."

"Cal Poly Pomona is a solid choice for their Business program. I decided to pursue the Technology & Operations Management emphasis and all the faculty and curriculum were great. It was actually pleasantly surprising how much I learned was instantly translatable to the work environment. Being a public university, the cost was not outrageous either. In terms of social life and environment, the school has made strides to improve with a new recreation center and busines buildings."

"I had the best time in this college. There are many professors who genuinely care for your success. I also made many friends who became life long friends. The people in this college are really friendly and they always host small events to keep the students entertained. They also have a starbucks in the library which is an ideal place to study and work on projects."

"I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology. As a research based school, all of the professors there are doctors that are essentially training students to succeed in Phd programs. Although I did not stay the course within Psychology, I am currently in a Master's of Social Work program at a very respectable university. Though graduating with my Bachelor's degree in 2008, I remember all the important aspects those professors wanted me understand. I can proudly say that it is with their guidance that I am academically succeeding in my graduate studies with a 4.0 and have been accepted in to the Phi Alpha Honors Society for recognition in academic excellence. As psychology is a science and should be taken as such, the program from this university not only emphasizes the importance of learning many different Psychological theories but also stressing the importance of research methods. Thus, there are courses that strictly teach behavioral statistics and preparation courses that utilize these statistical methods in order to do a mock research design and study. Overall, the Psychology department of Cal Poly Pomona has designed their Bachelor's program similarly to how a graduate program may be held. By mimicking higher levels of advanced education, this university is setting their students up for success. I would also agree that there are some classes that not everyone may enjoy and would need to simply get through them in order to move on. However, once those kinds of courses are completed, the enjoyment of actual learning takes place as well as having professors that actually enjoy teaching the material. Specialized areas of Psychology found in upper division courses such as Abnormal Behavior, Organizational Psychology, Health Psychology, and others are taught by professors excited about teaching these concepts to students. Moreover, I personally had a very profound sense of accomplishment after having graduated. All of the countless hours and late nights studying finally paid off. Despite whatever my grade point average came out to be, I felt very proud of every minute I had at Cal Poly Pomona."

"The sociology program at Cal Poly is absolutely wonderful. I had a criminology sub plan and the instructors there really know their field. Even the adjuncts seem to be happy to be teaching what they teach. The sociology department is full of wonderful people who really know their field and want everyone to succeed."

"The MPA program at Cal Poly Pomona provided me the resources and knowledge to be a successful and effective public administrator. The different courses required (and electives offered) were beneficial to me in pursuing not only this degree, but in thinking of the different career possibilities in the public sector. The instructors in the program were knowledgeable in this field and were great networking resources for me as public administrators."

"Cal Poly Pomona shaped my life more than just academically, though I was excited to attend for the zoology emphasis (a unique and rare offering nowadays), the like-minded individuals I met while in attendance became the greatest of friends. The large, dispersed campus is always a joy to walk through, though inconvenient if you only have 15 minutes between classes. This institution gave me the best years of my life."

"Cal Poly Pomona is not only a diverse university, but the rigor of the curriculum and the beauty of the campus make for the ideal college experience. Courses are centered around the school's mantra "learn by doing." Thus, top notch professors attempt to interweave both theory and application throughout all disciplines. Among other things, the campus restaurants provide enough variety so that students won't become tired of the food. Great school!"

"Cal Poly Pomona's Master of Urban and Regional Planning Program is highly regarding in Southern California. I have appreciated the education I am receiving there. Focusing my specialization in Environmental Policy has been a slight challenge since the program is heavily dominated by transportation planning courses, but I have been able to get the classes I want and I am enjoying it!"

"Attending California State Polytechnic University, Pomona or Cal Poly Pomona, was honestly one of the best decisions I have made so far. The course work is rigorous, but the professors are willing to help and their knowledge is infectious. It is a wonderful atmosphere that keeps you interested and striving to learn. There are few other schools where I would have been exposed to so much hands-on teaching so quickly. In my very first year I was able to castrate a piglet, perform a blood draw on a sheep, and give vaccines. It was an amazing experience and there are so many varied opportunities on campus to provide experience. I was a member of the livestock show team and learned many things about working with animals like cows and pigs. I was a member of the foal team and was even there to see my mare foal. It has all been an amazing experience that has prepared me so much to continue on with my journey to veterinary school."

"This Master's Degree program has improved every aspect of my classroom. My students are learning to think critically, collaborate and communicate effectively, and solve problems creatively. Following Cal Poly's Learn by Doing philosophy, the work required of this program translates directly to strategies I can use my classroom. I am grateful everyday that I am able to pursue this Master's program. It has taught me how to make my classroom a dynamic place for children to explore their world through their own designs. When students create to learn, they own it."
