"At California State University, Chico, I was enrolled in an accelerated Integrated Teacher Core Program where I would earn my Bachelors of Liberal Studies and my teaching credential within four years. Each semester I would take 18 to 21 units on top of field experience work. There were plenty of classes that were able to fit my schedule such as night classes, weekend classes, or online classes. Chico was one of the few universities that offered this program and it was a wonderful experience. There was a core group of students who were accepted into this program and we were in each others classes all four years. It made a great community where we supported each other looked after one another. Our professors were incredibly helpful as well as our counselors. The professors pushed us to go the extra yard to ensure we were all successful in and outside of the classroom. Chico State also included countless extracurricular activities as well. The campus is large and filled with over 200 types of plants and trees with a creek going through the middle. It's an absolutely gorgeous campus which made me love my experience there even more. I was a part of the dance team for all four years of my college career and that added another level of community that was inspirational. There were always job fairs, and fun activities that brought the students on campus together. I would highly recommend Chico State to anyone especially those wanting to pursue a career in education."

"California State University, Chico truly became my home away from home. Once I visited campus, I knew that I had found my home for the next four years. Chico State, and more specifically the agriculture department truly has an open door policy, and the professors there are always available for all students, whether it's for academics or just helping students settle into university life. The agriculture classes were hands on learning experiences that taught students practical, hands on skills that helped prepare us for our future careers."

"The business program at Chico is fantastic! The advisers there are wiling to help you at any time. I switched my major 3 times and needed to graduate within 5 years and they were able to help me past some barriers to get into the classes needed. The sales program there really helps you prepare for the real world. They could work on getting some of their marketing teachers to relate more to the students but I had a couple classes where the teachers were very approachable. I still refer back to this day to some of those classes and what I learned from them. The environment around Chico is the perfect little college town for the first time being on your own. Affordable places and nice people. I would 100% recommend going to Chico State for Marketing or anything business related or even exercise physiology (which was another major I tried out)."

  • Degree: Anthropology
"I would recommend the anthropology MA program at CSU Chico. The anthropology program is wonderful when it comes to professional development. There are many research opportunities to gain unique experiences that help with later PhD applications, and, for physical/biological anthropology students specifically, there are many forensic cases that students get to help on to gain practical experience. The one major drawback for this program is the lack of funding due to being a terminal master's program. There are TA opportunities to help with funding and a few scholarships/grants to apply for, but not enough to cover tuition (especially for out-of-state students). Despite needing federal student loans to help cover my expenses, I did not regret my decision to go there because the faculty and research opportunities were great."

  • Degree: Nursing
"The Nursing Program at Chico State is second to none. The faculty become friends and mentors while you are in the program and colleagues after graduation. The class sized are small and you move through the program with the same "cohort" for five semesters; I promise the relationships you will gain are special. The curriculum is challenging by nature, but nursing is a very worthwhile, very rewarding career. Go for it!"

"I had a fantastic experience at Chico State. I was a graduate of the Rural Teacher Residency Program and received my special education teaching credential and a Master of Art's degree in Education in a year. While it was a rigorous program, we were helped greatly by the amazing professors and mentor teachers. We also completed our student teaching in a year-long placement, which I found to be an excellent way to prepare me for the expectations of the teaching profession. While I do not qualify for the Master's supplement in my school district, I find that I was more than prepared mentally for my first year and beyond. I now work as an administrative dean at my school."

"The Anthropology program at CSU Chico is, to put it succinctly, incredible! The faculty are all excellent in their fields and most are very attentive and helpful to their students. In addition, the size of the classes is smaller than at a larger university such as a UC, which allows further contact between students and professors which can lead to great networking opportunities. The department has a museum, a forensic anthropology lab, an archaeology lab, an artifact conservation lab, a large northern california zooarchaeological collection, a stable isotope preparation lab, a visual anthropology lab and movie producing studio, all of which provide opportunities in the forms of volunteer positions and internships (sometimes paid!)for both undergraduates and graduates to gain experience in areas of anthropology they are interested in. After completing the program at CSU Chico, I received job offers in Cultural resource management and also had the necessary skills and experience to be offer a position in a graduate program in anthropology. I highly recommend the program at CSU Chico to anyone interested in pursuing a degree in Anthropology."

"Chico State provided me with the skills and knowledge required to be successful in the working world. I had wonderful professors who helped guide me towards my career path and were always willing to assist me, whether it by specific to our studies, or advising me when it came to choosing grad schools. My major courses were challenging and were relevant to today's current research. The campus is beautiful and welcoming. There were always opportunities to network with other students and local businesses, along with opportunities to participate in the community. Although the town of Chico has had issues with crime over the past few years, as a student I never felt unsafe. I would highly recommend this school to any high school student looking for a solid education and the opportunity to connect with a diverse student population, enthusiastic professors and the community itself."

"California State University of Chico is a very good school for my field of study. First , it offers an animation degree. Other school just have graphic communication degree which is vague. Secondly, some of the professors within this field knows how to do animation. A few professors had worked with some big animation projects such as Avatar and The Hobbit. Lastly, the animation professors is really helpful. They give out good feedback to improve the animation process. In addition they encourage students to visit them during office hours for help. When it come to animation, CSU Chico is a good choice from other schools."

"Chico State has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I have made some of my best friends here, and I hope these friendships will be life-long. I have learned an abundant amount of information that has helped me achieve my Bachelor's Degree, and that has taught me about myself and others, in a way that I may not have learned otherwise if I had not picked this major. I am truly thankful for all of my wonderful Psychology teachers who are passionate about the field, and who are always there to help a student if they need it, because they truly care. The campus is extremely diverse, and its beauty is seen all around as it is surrounded by trees, and has a creek running all throughout campus. Chico State has a reputation as a party school, but it truly is no longer as notorious as it once was. Chico State is so much more than its reputation though, it is a place where students are active in the community and volunteering is abundant among the students. Anyone would be welcome at Chico State, and I hope this school will change someones life as much as it has changed mine."

"What did Chico State teach me? It taught me that college is a learning experience for not only education, but as well as personal growth. Don't worry if you go in not knowing what you are going to do. You may change your mind a million times, or you may just stick with what you go in thinking you will do. It's ok whatever way you choose. A degree in 4 years is great, but 5 or 6 is ok too. Remember to take full advantage of what college can offer you. Take classes, spend some time in the library, get a job on campus (who knows this may be a step for bigger and better things), join a club and definitely meet lots of people. The campus is beautiful and has so much to offer you. Take it all in!"

"CSU Chico is beautiful campus, cute town, and full of history. Love the area and original locals; however, some of the newer transients and locals are less desirable (more gangs and violence than when my mom went in the 80s). Makes you want to go back in time, but overall I loved my professors and the classes I took."
