We sometimes forget the circles we run in when we write on social media. It wasn't very comforting to see people interpreting what others have stated about getting their degrees quickly. Many of these professionals come from the U.S. military, which trains every individual to the degree of their capability to work professionally in high-demand technical career fields. Technical Schools within each branch of services and combined service schools are all transferable credits accepted by the many academic institutions that historically operated on foreign bases contracted for the advanced education of military members. Many folks discussing finishing their degree "in a short time" were stranded with a lot of college credit experience that Excelsior University took in various ways and pioneered the idea that has entirely morphed into distant learning. Excelsior is not a diploma mill. It is an accredited authority of great honor that has honored those deserving of academic credit for all their learning experiences. Thirty-five years of service to the DoD did not get me a job teaching when I left to start a new career. My degree from Excelsior College did, and it continues to serve me well.

The "teachers" at Excelsior "College" (and now they're calling themselves "University") are sometimes bots and people in the administration office cutting and pasting "feedback". I guess a lot of Excelsior students get their degrees paid for by someone else, so they don't care how low the quality of the "education" they're getting is but if you want to actually have an intelligent conversation with anyone, look elsewhere. My experience with Excelsior was really good. Excelsior took all my credits and applied them to my Bachelor's Degree. My student advisors were excellent, except they changed often which was a bit frustrating at times. I did have one little snafu, however the advisor was quick to get my issue resolved and get me back on track without any glitches. The hardest part of the program was the Capstone. It was very labor intensive. I did learn a lot from all the classes I took and 99.9% of the instructors were exceptional. I did have one instructor for 3 different classes because of my Health Science Area of Focus, she was the best professor I have ever had. Most of the instructors were very engaged and helpful. I did a lot of research, writing and know APA quite well having had big assignments but the topics were chosen by me and interesting to me. As hard as the research and writings were, I know that I came out of those assignments learning more than I could have ever imagined.

Since Excelsior has a lot of military and mature people in the school, I felt that the learning environment was intellectually deep. Life experience sure put some topics in perspective. The Capstone, as much as I did not like the class, was the class that I really felt connected to my classmates. We all worked well together and the discussion board was a plethora of information. I found that us students helping our fellow students quite refreshing. Overall, I worked very hard and felt that it was a great option for me. I can see where this type of school might not be suited for everyone. If anyone thinks that Excelsior is easy, it is not. But for those who take pride in their education and work hard, it will pay off.

I am confident that I will be able to approach my Master's degree with confidence thanks to what I learned at Excelsior.

I had a very good experience with Excelsior. The instructors were very knowledgeable and always available to answer questions, more so than the traditional college I previously attended. The classes were tougher than I thought they would be and I feel I received excellent instruction. The resources available to students were very good- online tutoring and library resources were very helpful. All of the advisors were prompt and helpful. I have been accepted to and attended traditional universities with more well-known names and better reputations than Excelsior,... but I learned a lot more from Excelsior. Excelsior's courses are demanding. Lots of research and writing. It was definitely more work than my previous traditional courses! I am a life-long learner and have studied in traditional college classrooms (at a University), in technical/vocational schools, in intense military fast-paced environments, and now also online. All... Read More of them were a breeze compared to the time and research it takes to do an Excelsior course. I'll say it again, lots of research and writing! And I loved it! I felt like I was getting a quality education, being forced to connect the dots before moving on and learning how everything is correlated. I will say, that I have read an awful lot of negative reviews from the nursing students, and I am not sure what's going on there; but Excelsior has been challenging and rewarding, fast-paced and time consuming. I learned more here than I did at my traditional college because on top of taking a full course load I had to learn to research on my own, prioritize, and manage my time better while working full time.

I had a wonderful experience with Excelsior College. I see so many negative posts mostly in regards to their nursing program. Apart from the nursing program I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this institution. I received my BS degree in Liberal Arts with concentrations in history and sociology. Read More yet many colleges refused to recognize my army training. The nursing board of Illinois recognized it and allowed me to sit for the Nclex-PN. What allowed me to become an Lpn was not recognized by brick and mortar colleges. Excelsior applied 60 credits towards my degree from the courses I completed in the Army, i,e, Anatomy and Physiology from my Army nursing course ,was applied towards my science requirement. I was ecstatic. This meant I was halfway done. I also had previous credits from two other college which Excelsior took. I tested out of the rest of my degree using combination of clep/dsst and Uexcel exams. Excelsior is innovative, flexible and truly is a place to attain one's degree for the nontraditional student.

This school is for muture adult learner. I received two Associate degrees and one Bachelor degree from Excelsior College. It is regionally accredited. They have a very liberal transfer policy. They grant you credit for military training as well as experiential learning and prior learning to include but not limited to exams, traditional classroom courses, correspondence courses, CLEP, DANTES, etc. I had no problem getting employment such as the Federal government, private companies, County and City... I graduated in September of 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. The diploma was issued by "The University of the State of New York." Regents External Degree Program. I had been enlisted for 7 years at the time of graduation and was commissioned that same month. I retired from the Navy as a Lt. Commander. Matriculated at Vanderbilt University, received a Masters. Later attended Southern Methodist University where I earned a Doctorate in 1995. I have recommended this program to everyone who might... Read More be interested. Several through the years have also benefited by graduating. It gave me a huge leg up in life. My sister received her BS degree in 1992 and now has her Doctorate as well. To say that this program is accredited is an understatement, considering how my BS degree opened so many doors at other prestigious universities for me and so many others. This college pioneered the External Degree concept and gave it the respectability and prestige that other institutions have attempted to build upon. The difference between this institution and many others is that they genuinely do help you succeed. They do not try to exploit you. They seriously work hard to accept your transfer hours and evaluate your life experiences for college credit. Virtually all of my required 120 semester hours were earned through CLEP/DANTES Tests and by attending other colleges. They authenticated and validated my work by awarding the degree. I was 26 then. I am about to be 62 now, rapidly approaching retirement. Looking back, I know much is owed to NY Regents, now called "Excelsior College." And given the fact that my own educational and professional achievements are such a small part of their hugely innovative, important and impressive track record, I needed to offer this strong affirmation of Excelsior College.
