"I had an amazing experience here. The teachers were helpful and they really care about their students. I never felt like I couldn’t turn to someone for help. When I sat for my NCLEX I felt prepared and confident. What you get out of your education is what you are willing to put in. This is how everything in life is. If I had to choose between going to IOT or anywhere else I would do it all over again at IOT. The compassion and support is unmatched."

"I went through a personal loss/ tragedy while I was a student in this program and all of my instructors worked with me to help me succeed academically in spite of it being the hardest year of my life. I passed my NCLEX on my first attempt and then after several interviews, I landed a job a month after graduating at a hospice that was "experimenting" with hiring LPNs as they were a mostly RN based hospice. I worked my way up into an admin position at the hospice who hired me and have been here for several years. Looking back, I would definitely do this program again as prior to the program I had been working as a med tech at an ALF and becoming an LPN immediately doubled my income as well as gave me a deeper sense of career purpose doing something that I truly love. I know I am not in the majority in the reviews on here but I do recommend this program as a springboard into nursing. I am planning on getting my RN at some point but have also loved my current job as an LPN. The program is challenging and has a high price point but was worth it due to the fact that having an LPN license was a career game changer for me. Also the attentiveness that the instructors gave to the success of this quiet student will always be appreciated. :) Thanks again IOT."

"I graduated in IOT's computer sciences program in 2011 on the Deans list and still didnt get a job. I worked hard on my resume and with their financial department to help me find a job and the best they could do is a T-mobile call center job. Then they ghosted me when they found that i didnt get a job"

"Program has little structure. Constantly changing what they want or what's required a lot of times at last minute. Yelling at students, calling them retards, and snowflakes. Telling them to shut up. Expecting students to jump and work with them but not willing to work with students. Hard to get schedules in advance enough to set a steady work/ life schedule. Very unprofessional! Very unorganized and unstructured. Little stability and not set up for success. More worried with their pockets and image than the success and well being of students. Too many changes. Not worth $30000+ debt!!! Alot of unnecessary busy work still. Staff doesnt disclose all needed information such as what you can save money on. Theyll take you for all you've got and not think twice or care."

"Please avoid this school like the plague! I got through almost all of the mods and I got a indian teacher with a heavy accent. I could not understand a word she was saying and was failing my class. I went to the dean and asked for another teacher and he told me that was the only teacher for that class. I had dropped out. When I wanted to return they told me I would have to pay the entire school costs all over again. I never graduated and now it's ten years later, my interest rate has gotten higher and higher. I pretty much owe more than what I signed up to originally pay. My credit is ruined because of this school. Also, out of all of my graduating class, only 3 people got a job."

"I was a practical nursing instructor at IOT. The nursing program is a disorganized mess poorly managed by an incompetent administrator. Its nice and pretty up front in the areas you see before you sign the contracts. Once youre hooked youll see the backend disorder and chaotic classes. I feel for the students who have taken out 30k+ loans and will graduate unprepared with poor employment prospects. My advice = Go to Chemeketa and get your RN. If you are seriously considering this program then at least sit in on some classes and talk to several current students before signing anything."

"Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this facility for serious medical training. As a teaching institution, is lacks credibility in the professional sector such that, upon completing my training and graduating with my degree, it has proven impossible acquiring a full-time position as a nurse. LVN's are inherently less in demand than RN's. Couple that with the fact that IOT has a less than stellar reputation, and employers are reluctant to hire their graduates. The sad truth is, however, that I can't blame employers for not wanting to hire graduates of the program, because IOT falls very short in their instructional skills, churning out unqualified nurses routinely on an annual basis. The program is overall chaotic and unorganized to the point that students are left largely on their own to teach themselves, which is an expensive endeavor for $35K. So, bottom line is that I'd recommend steering clear of this facility, at least for their nursing program."

"DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING TO THIS SCHOOL! This school was definitely a choice I regret. I wish I could have listened to everyone that told me to just go on for my RN. I wanted to take the 'easy route' into nursing school which is why I thought this was a great choice. IT WAS NOT. #1: the instructors are nice, but they don't know how to teach. I went in there knowing that I was going to be stressed and that it was going to be hard, but having to worry about teaching yourself in order to pass and get good grades is unacceptable, especially as this program costs $30,000. If you were an A and B student in regular college expect to be a c or borderline to failure student. In one class about 85% of us are failing and have been ever since the term started because the proper material was not being thought, all of us made sure to tell the counselor about it and he did nothing..We have 1 week left of the term and just now they are making an 'effort' in giving us power points so that we may teach ourselves as much as we can. #2: The school and staff are super unorganized! In all classes they pass papers from left and right of things that are from the past week or that you will need months from then. Furthermore, the instructors sometimes share classes and they do not always get along, at times they would argue or just be completely lost about who and what each of them was teaching. It was pretty obvious that they had no set material for teaching. With that said I do not think that nurses should be teaching core subjects such as Biology, Psychology etc. because to me they are not qualified to teach that stuff if they were only students of that subject during their nursing journey. Thus, making it a learning barrier for us. I could go on and on about issues and complaints I have of this school as the list is endless. So far it is only the beginning yet we will have lost 7 students after this term (not counting the night shift folks, or the people who will be dismissed due to a 'failing' grade of less than 75%). Myself and my classmates would all agree with me that this is not a student issue, it is a teaching and faculty problem that should be addressed and/or investigated."

"This school is awful the instructors are not helpful they say they want you to be successful but this is a lie if you have any kind of learning disability they will not work with you. They make you feel stupid and they encourage your fellow students to do the same"

"I honestly believe that this school is a waste of money. The instructors are very nice and helpful, but are unable to properly teach the classes required due to limited resources and small classrooms. When dealing with administration, it always ends up turning in to a wild goose chase when you need a simple question answered. When it came time for my externship, I was placed with a practice that decided I would "learn best" by sticking me in a dark room where I scanned old files on to a computer for 8 hours a day. It was not until I complained twice to the Externship coordinator at IOT and the office manager at the clinic I was at, that I was allowed to spend 2 hours a day for two weeks following a Medical Assistant around. It seemed to me that the externship coordinator did not look fully in to the way the clinic was treating the students. Also, it is very apparent that the school cannot control the amount of drama that happens in between the students. I saw more fighting, backstabbing, and overall drama in the 9 months that I was there then I did in my four years of high school. Overall, I believe that you are wasting your money going to this school. When I graduated, I felt that I did not get the training that I needed to succeed in the medical field. This is not for lack of commitment since I did graduate with honors and only missed 3 days of school the entire 9 months. Since graduating I have spent 6 months trying to find a job. It seems that when the employers see where I received my training, the refuse to hire me. Please do not waste your money on this school."

"If you are looking for an LPN program near Salem, OR, then look at other schools. At this IOT the instruction takes place in a building that used to be a shooting range. The indoor climate is chilly and the rooms are devoid of windows. It has the institutional feel of a prison. The program has been very chaotic. Materials and grading policies have been changed and changed again mid-semester. It would be more reassuring to be standing on shifting sand in a windstorm. A student does not finish with lecture classes until she graduates. Consequently, the student nurse is divided between two worlds. In one arena she is working with living people and expected to perform in a competent manner. In the other arena she is taking six classes to acquire critical nursing knowledge. She takes home schoolwork from the six classes and is also piled with a binder of paperwork from her time spent in the field. The program was erected in this fashion to make it simple to fill staff vacancies paying a minimal salary and giving investors a boost. A person could attend the LPN program at IOT Salem and still turn out to be a skilled and knowledgeable nurse, but for $30K this school should be on the bottom of the list."

"I was an older student, coming back to school to retrain myself for a better career. I looked at other schools and decided to go to Institute of Technology because of the corporate culture. It was amazing, every time I would come to the school I felt welcome, and the entire staff had a tremendous attitude. The education I received has already paid benefits, I have a great career and am excited to go to work every day. I have seen some negative postings and I just don't understand them. The Institute of Technology provides a great education from leaders in their perspective fields, and the ancillary services work well too. It is up to the individule students/graduates to get involved with their Career Services Advisor, in order for the CSA to help guide them into their chosen career. I highly recommend IOT to anyone looking to improve their station in life."

"The education I received changed my life. I had worked in warehousing for fifteen years and did not think I would ever have the skills to work in a professional office. After completing the Human Resource program, I worked closely with the Career Service team and became employed soon after graduation. I am still working in my field of study. The instructors and staff were very supportive and encouraging. I am proud to be an Institute of Technology Alumni."

"I just graduated the end of 2012. My experience at the school was really great! The medical assisting instructors (Ms. Hawkins and Ms. Cacy) are very good. They are there for you every step of the way and do everything they can to help you be successful and do well in class. I really like how everyday the classes are split, half in the classroom and half in the clinical lab. My skills were always fresh and sharp and I was well prepared for my externship. I worked closely with Ms. McGee in Career Services a few months before I graduates getting prepared for my job search and for my externship. She is amazing. She's honest, sincere and really cared about my success. I was so happy when I got a job offer from my externship site. I couldn't have done it without Ms. McGee's coaching. She helped me be confident during the interview and gave me all sorts of good tips on how to shine at externship. Everyone in the Career Services department was so friendly and helpful. What a great group of people. I know other people from my class were also very happy with the school and some had jobs soon after graduating as well. If you work hard, listen to all the advice and apply it, and be persistent and dedicated, you to can start a new career like I did. Go check out the Institute of Technology!"

"I went to IOT in 1999. It was the best school experience I have ever had. The entire staff was supportive and friendly. I had a lot of obstacles to overcome during the 9 1/2 months I attended and they cheered me through each one without trying to solve my problems for me. In turn that helped me grow professionally and personally. You get what you put into it. You have to work hard and you can't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. I was hired a week before I graduated and I am still working at the same place almost 13 years later. IOT did help change my life, I was able to get the skills needed to get my foot in the door and work my way up to Management level. IOT is worth it."

"IOT was the best thing that ever happened to me. I loved the instruction, the accelerated learning, and the labs. Everyone was always friendly and eager to help. I just had to ask for it. I always wanted to learn more, so I went after every opportunity possible. I had to work hard to find a job. But if you don't work hard to find a job full time, you probably won't get one. The economy is horrible and you have to stand out above all others. My instructors were always there for me even after I graduated, to help me with questions, contacts and even offered to let me sit in on the classes to help me refresh. From the moment you walk in the doors you feel like you found a long lost family. Everyone is always so friendly and willing to help. I honestly believe it's all about your attitude, outlook, and how hard you work for it. If you give up, you'll never get very far. I bet all of those who are not happy, if you were to contact your former instructors, they would be willing to help you with something. And Career Services will help you with your resume and help you find job leads. Someone else mentioned if you are thinking about going to a school, to go to one of the graduations… I think that's an excellent idea. Call the school and find out when the next one is and go see for yourself. They are open to the public.I don't usually post reviews, but I saw how bad a rap IOT had on here, and had to post something to back up my school. If I wouldn't have gone to IOT, I don't know where I would be. But I know I wouldn't have the skills and training that allow me to do what I love and support my kids."
