"The material we learn has zero value in this world. My engineering courses have problems that are 2 pages long (MINIMUM). I felt that I was completely screwed out of 4 years and financially. I would like for people to know that everything I learned here, I could easily learn by myself and be 100% more effective at it. There is no point doing math equations that were done 100 years ago when we have the technology to do it instantly. Find a school that teaches real world implications."

"This was the absolute worst university I have ever experienced. My advisor did not review my transcript after I transferred from the University of Minnesota, and I ended up repeating one course and taking two that did not apply to my degree at all. There is no communication whatsoever. I tried to get in contact with my advisor for three months through phone calls, emails, etc. and was never responded to. I had to leave the program and transfer to the complete lack of communication, and irresponsibility of these professionals."

"I enjoyed my two years at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. The professors, more specifically, professors in the Psychology program helped me immensely and prepared me for graduate school. They were so supportive and allowed me to feel comfortable within my studies. I am grateful for my time at my underrate college and and I am so fortunate to been able to create strong relationships with my classmates and professors that I know will support me in my future career."

"I had a great experience at MN State University Mankato. The Dental Hygiene Program was specifically exceptional. There are only two colleges in the State of MN that offer a bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene and Mankato State does a great job of providing you with an education to make you a competent, confident clinician."

"My experience at Minnesota State University, Mankato was underwhelming. The town is small and uninteresting with virtually nothing to do aside from party, and honestly the party scene there isn't that great. The majority of the people I met there I found to be one dimensional with typical rural Midwestern upbringings. Not saying that's bad, it just didn't make for stimulating conversation. I did of course make friends there but no one I would consider to be close with, and our friend group dissolved quickly after we left. The campus itself is surprisingly small for the student population and there's not much offered in terms of entertainment. Most of the general courses were led by an apathetic professor who just sees you as a number on the clipboard (like all colleges). The core classes were fun but I found once I graduated that they didn't really prepare me for any career within the field. It was a disappointing four years and I would strongly advise looking elsewhere when picking a college."

"Minnesota State University-Mankato had a very thorough Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Program. As with many programs it was extremely competitive to get in, however it was not impossible. There were a variety of options for clinical sites throughout Southeastern Minnesota. I feel this allowed for more opportunities especially when choosing our locations for our last semester clinical rotation. There were many courses utilizing the Simulation Lab as well as community learning opportunities."

"I have mixed feelings about my experience. Also, it was a long time ago and I am sure that many things at the university have changed. At the time, I felt the course work and instructors were interesting and challenging. The campus was nice, easily accessible and offered a well rounded experience. I do not feel the career services were up to par. I did not fully understand the cost of college and what my income potential would be with my chosen degree (Spoiler: it was poor and the loan was substantial-still paying it off with income based repayment)."

"While I struggled in school with professors who didn't understand a working college student, I do appreciate the quality of education they gave me. I felt mostly prepared for my career as a teacher (not sure that anyone feels completely prepared), and their courses and programs helped that."

"Minnesota State University, Mankato has professors that are involved, rigorous, and caring about all of their students. The professors take the time to get to know all of their students and address them by name. They have a genuine interest whether you're learning the material or struggling with a topic. They are personal, without being too personal, and are always there if you have worries or questions. With the recent issues going on in the government, all of my professors and the President of the University made it their goal to communicate with all of their students to let them know that they (students) are safe, they are welcome, and they are always a priority no matter what their gender, race, or sexual orientation. I have never been around more considerate professors and individuals."

"The Communication Studies department at Minnesota State University, Mankato is an excellent program. The staff really care about the development of students and encourage them to develop themselves as individuals and within the career. They are don't just lecture students, but instead provide hands-on activities to foster student learning. Their instruction and mentoring had a big impact on the person I have become today."

"The college is a great university for the amount you pay for. Low tuition and good quality. The geography department has had a winner for in the GIS/LIS MN in each of the last three years. The GIS curriculum is very satisfying and teaches you what you need to succeed in the field."

"Great advisors and professors within this particular study. They are very helpful and hands on. My advisor helped me every step of the way. Without the help and support I know I would not have completed my degree successfully. Each professor was also able to help me apply my studies to community volunteer efforts and work, which in turn help me find my career."

  • Degree: Political Science
"My department at Minnesota State University, was political science. Overall my experience there helped me somewhat become open to different perspectives, and understanding political views from International students that I became friends with on my own. If not for me being an extrovert, I doubt MSU programs would have provided sources for students to interact socially. The program teachings were sub-par. Many of the professors weren't engaged with students. In my opinion solely, I felt they were just there for a paycheck and not supporting the idea that they are in charge of inspiring and preparing students for life events and job placement. There is not a strong alumni support group for political science majors. It was/is difficult for students to network, and develop resources to help with job placement. The reality is that many students who have graduated before weren't given the necessary help to land careers in the poli-sci field. I do feel the department needs to develop better resources so that students graduating are able to secure careers in what they obtained the degrees on."

"I loved Mankato. I also recieved my undergraduate degree there as well. My professors were educated, professional, as well as genuine. My advisor especially was very supportive of my personal academic journey and was a great mentor to me. I felt the cost of MSU in general was great, it has great facilities and amenities. Living in Mankato was generally cheap, while the town has lots of great food, coffee shops, places to exercise, work , and study. Go Mavericks!"
