Purdue University-Calumet Campus Reviews
Student & Graduate Reviews (4)
Purdue University Calumet's Construction Program had numerous professors who do not teach well, required books that we never used, carried unprofessional relationships w/students. If you are seeking a construction degree, I personally recommend taking construction classes at their main campus. The other programs at Purdue Northwest (current name) such as psychology, engineering and creative communication are outstanding. The professor's in that field of study are caring and understanding. The classes are challenging and you definitely will use the books. I read every single page in all my psychology classes.
I am a Human Development and Family Studies: Gerontology graduate. I would say that professors are very willing to help a student when asked. Classes vary from lecture halls to smaller student numbers of 15-25. I felt very prepared for my career and felt safe in my environment.
Purdue University's extension at the Calumet campus in Hammond, Indiana is a great option for students wanting or needing to stay closer to home or who opt of of the traditional campus lifestyle. In addition to the wealth of resources offered to Purdue students in particular the OWL writing resources, I felt my educational experience in the Business Entrepreneurship program adequately provided an excellent base for those desiring to start a small business. As a non-traditional student who returned to college after years of owning a business, I am fortunate to have had a handful of professors who challenged and altered my thought processes about business practices.
Purdue Calumet is a great satellite campus to the main campus of Purdue University-West Lafayette. Many years ago when I first started there, it was a commuter college that catered to people who worked. Now it has Division III sports, dorms, and very updated computer labs. My favorite thing about Purdue Calumet is that the classes are much smaller than your traditional colleges. I like being able to be in a classroom where my instructor knows my name, and I can see them throughout the day if I have questions and concerns. Being a student in engineering, having access to my instructor was very important. Nearly everything that you can study at the main campus you can study at Purdue Calumet. I also enjoy Chicago being a train trip away.
