Rasmussen University Online Reviews of Bachelor's in Computer Science

I have started attending this school recently and decided to read some reviews about it. After reading several reviews I understand the concern for lack of teaching. I’m taking a accelerated degree that results in 5.5 week semesters and roughly 30ish hours of HW/research a week. I do work full time and I’m managing to get A’s in my classes. This is hands down the best online school for people looking to get into Computer Science. You can jump into Data-Science or show off your design skills by earning a Web Dev Degree! I went for my Software Degree and loved the entire process. After spending 1 week getting used to the online layout, I felt confident in completing the rest of my degree. People seem to not quite understand that these types of schools largely result in what you put in. I've never had issues getting into contact with anyone from the school whether it be professors, advisers, tech support, or anyone else. My adviser has even been very easy to contact during holiday times. The reality is this school is a for-profit so their courses aren't as hard a they could be but if you choose to be lazy and put in no effort it shouldn't come as a surprise when you get nothing out... Read More of the program. I've been working hard since enrolling in 2015 and graduate next December and already have some stuff lined up with Fortune 500 companies. If you're looking into their CS program it's important to understand what computer science actually is. As with vast majority of other CS programs, you don't get a whole lot of programming experience. It's more about algorithms and theories behind CS that can be translated into whatever programming language you find yourself using... not teaching you a language that could be gone within years. But as many have said this school is extremely expensive and if you can pursue your higher education elsewhere it probably would be worthwhile. Rasmussen isn't as terrible as people make it out to be but there are without a doubt better schools out there.

I took this program immediately after graduating with a Bachelors degree in Business. Much of my previous coursework was able to be transferred which was very nice, and I was able to complete the program in 15 months. The problem I had with these courses is the lack of actual programming experience that was offered in the program. I had 5 courses (6 weeks each) which involved coding. All other classes were strictly writing courses which required up to 10 pages of writing per week. With graduation... Teachers were always available and very helpful which was definitely a plus. That being said, I would not recommend this program for anyone wishing to pursue a degree in Computer Science. I feel there are more resources online, and self-instruction would be more beneficial than enrolling in this online program.

I have just completed my first year at Rasmussen College. I think its great. There are a lot of bad reviews and sometimes its our own faults for giving the bad reviews. I've seen stuff like "I have a bad professor because he gave me a bad grade for turning in late homework" or "my financial aid got messed up but I turned it in a week late". Its called holding yourself accountable and if you want to be in school, you'll find ways that motivate you to stay in school. I'm not saying its perfect and... Read More the instructors are the best. We are human and we make mistakes. In fact, once I took a test and 2 questions out of the 25 questions were counted as being WRONG when they were RIGHT. I took screenshots of the problems then emailed that to the professor and he took care of it that same night and I received credit for the correct answers. They also changed the test. I have been in the workforce for about 20 years. For me, I have to get a degree if I want to advance with my current employer. I have an opportunity to better myself and my family. If that means to grit my teeth and take charge of my education, that's what I'm going to do. Its not about excuses. It not about waiting until the last minute to finish up an assignment. Its about your future. Take charge of yours!

I graduated from Rasmussen with an A/S in Network Administration. After finding out that I would have to take more than 80% over again at another college I gave Rasmussen one more chance. And complained to the state about the BS from this school. I never made it through my first returning quarter. I wrote one paper about business and used Rasmussen. I had to tell what their product or service was. I stated Education as their primary product or service. I got a zero and was told it was dreams not... Read More education. Every assignment after that was the same way. after three weeks I complained to my advisor and dean. They can not do anything about the teacher but I could withdraw. Then told if I did I would have to pay and take the class again and it may be with the same instructor. I complained until it affected my other class and that one you could not reach the instructor unless you waited three days. Then he was like he did not have time. Again complained and was told maybe I picked the wrong program. I dropped while I was still good they just waited to do so until I got WF. Now they are delaying again as they did when I came back so I cannot start at another school. Plus they lied to the state and the state bought into it. Stay away is my advise stay very far away. Plus when I was doing my A/S I was suppose to get a military discount. After long run around many emails to the president that never got returned thy gave me part. Their excuse was it was not offered before those times. But they told the state I never reinstated my discount after taking a medical leave and that was what they gave me.They change those rules every six months to use at their advantage. Same with tuition cost. My return I had four different prices. They always had a reason why. The student is always wrong when they do anything. Just like i was wrong for picking Computer Science. They even offered to talk with other schools because I complained about the degree was not worth the paper it was printed on and when I tried to Use the VP of student affairs officer's invitation she could never be reached or return calls. But she told the state I never asked, again they bought it. It is only about money, they use to include books with tuition now you pay extra, they use to give graduates official transcripts, now you pay extra, They change the rules from when you enroll to what ever meets their needs not the students. Students do not come first like they advertise. And if they tell you have a choice at something do not believe them only choice you have is their way or the high way.

I started at this school with high hopes for my first college, I was soon greatly disappointed in the quality of the courses and the staff. In the span of the year that I had been enrolled they changed my advisors about 5 times without notifying me, so I would send out and email only to have a different person replying each time. Read More about formatting or any course-related subject they would send me a link that would be something I could Google in a heartbeat and is relatively useless in the area that I asked the question. It seems they are simply interested in gathering your money and teaching you absolutely nothing. I wish I could have realized this before I jumped into the program. Don't bother with a school who can't even bother with you!
