"My time at Shepherd University was filled with difficult courses, assignments, and professors. That is EXACTLY why I believe you should attend there. I was challenged in almost every course and developed amazing live changing relationships. There were many opportunities for me to learn, grow, and aspire for more. If you enjoy a small town feel while still being challenged academically this is the right place for you. Albeit, some of the dorms are older and the parking is minimal- the cons do not out weigh the pros."

"The university as a whole was good. The environment was amazing. The small town of Shepherdstown will always be home. The shops, the shopkeepers, the local people, and the students were all incredible to surround yourself with. While those were the feelings of the overall school, the specific program was even better. I had the opportunity to work and learn within the business school. I specifically studied Business Administration with a concentration in Financial Planning. Not only did I meet incredible other students, I had some of the most genuine and caring instructors I could have asked for. They got to know you on a personal level, pushing you beyond what you would have thought you could accomplish."

"This is my first semester and so far I think they have an excellent set up of class with great support along the way. The program enticed me due to the classes that they offer and the ease of availability as I am taking class part time, while working a full time job and taking care of my family."

"The college student development program was social justice based. Professors take the field seriously and are very up to date on research."

"Attending Shepherd University was one of the most rewarding educational experiences I have had. The school itself is on the cusp of furthering career development and making sure major/minor studies can be applied to the real world. I was able to graduate from Shepherd with over 5 job offers. It was a lot of hard work that I had to pursue on my own in terms of networking and obtaining internships however, my education there has shaped my goals and aspirations to obtain a Masters in Social Work starting Fall 2017. I was also involved in Greek life at the University which did amazing things for my potential career and really taught me the basic etiquettes that I needed for the work place. Shepherd University taught me how to balance "work and life"so to speak. Professors were eager to make sure students did not fall behind and were always available after class to meet with you. Overall my experience at Shepherd University was extremely positive. I not only was able to be awarded with a degree that prepared me for jobs but also professional mentors from my peers and professors."

"It was an "Easy" school to get into, but the classes lacked creativity, and lessons were often lengthy periods of an instructor reading from a slide show. I often felt that the endeavors relating to Therapeutic Recreation that I sought individually were far more beneficial then what was provided/offered from the university."

"I attended Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. My major was Sociology, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Dr. Howard-Bostic was the greatest help with advising me on which classes to take. She want my college experience excellent. Being a black older women going to a mostly white college was not easy."

"Always keep yourself informed about your schedule and progress in your major. Do not relay on staff members to watch you. Plus go somewhere and stay on campus. Definitely a different college experience"

"Shepherd University has very high quality instructors; however, the courses offered are limited. Most graduate programs in the medical field require additional courses not included in the biology curriculum such as anatomy and physiology. Also, many of the courses are only offered one semester and others are offered every few years. If there is a schedule conflict, such limitations are hard to overcome without having to stay longer than the 4 years intended. The instruction is very personalized which makes it much easier to succeed in the major, though, as long as you supply the effort. It is not an easy major."

"Pros are the faculty and staff were very helpful. The cons are the technology in the classrooms needed to be updated at times and we were givenan overload of work at times."

"Shepherd University's graduate programs are relatively new. I did my undergraduate program there and the school is great, it offers small classroom sizes and the area is geographically close to Washington DC but nuzzled in a very inexpensive part of West Virginia. The school is very practical and her cheap. I'm applying to the graduate program there currently for Masters of Arts in Teaching. As I said I completed my undergraduate degree in the business college and had helpful and attentive professors and advisers. I would not expect the graduate program to be any different. The only down side of the program is that if a student wants to work outside of the area perhaps WVU would be a more marketable degree as it has more name recognition. For local students Shepherd is a well respected school that gives marketable degrees."
