"The school is small and close-knit with roughly a 25:1 student to teacher ratio. I can only speak for the psychology program, but the coursework is demanding and the faculty expect effort! However, the faculty are outstanding, caring, and provide students with everything they need to succeed. Tuition is rather pricey but the knowledge gained (and retained) shows for it. Majority of faculty are tenured, at the PhD level, and continue to engage in their own research to stay current and create well-informed students."

"St. Mary's is a small, liberal arts college located in southern Maryland. The campus is beautiful situated right on the water and the education is excellent. If you are interested in Biology, this is the school for you! The Biology department at St. Mary's is recognized worldwide for its rigor and excellence. They offer a variety of courses within the biology field, allowing students to explore many different expertise and figure out what they are most passionate about. During your senior year you are required to complete a St. Mary's project, which is either a research experiment or literature review. In my opinion, this was the most valuable experience I had during my undergraduate studies. It forced me to dig into the literature, use what I learned about how the scientific process is conducted, and get used to dealing with criticism and from my peers and advisers. The small class sizes allow you to build solid relationships with your professors, which was a huge plus for me. If I had to go back to college I would, without a doubt, pick St. Mary's all over again!"

"St. Mary's is unlike most schools, it is nestled in Southern Maryland on the water. Students love the campus and the friends they make here. On a sunny day you will find a majority of the campus studying outside or alongside the waterfront. The food is cafeteria is really good too!"

"St. Mary's is a wonderful institution of learning. Students are challenged both in and out of the classroom. Faculty work closely with students to ensure they not only understand the material, but to enhance their learning experience. Students are encouraged in their final year to complete a thesis project, something many students in graduate school don't even have the opportunity to complete."

"St. Mary's College of Maryland was an absolutely amazing experience. The campus is beautiful with many outdoor and water-based activities and the professors really care about their students. The small class sizes encourage participation and constructive criticism which helped me prepare for the collaborative environment of a job in the real world. I wouldn't trade my time there for anything in the world!"

"SMCM is great school academically. The classes are small (maybe 10-15 students max to a teacher) and you're able to have one-on-ones with instructors and advisers, as many as you need. You're given many options in ways to complete your education whether it be study abroad or off campus work. I changed my major 3 times and the sociology program was a great fit. That program was like a dream, it was amazing. The instructors were always available for help and discussion based classes made a great difference. And the school generally cares. They do what they can to help you get that degree. They give you tons of resources and it's up to you to take advantage of them. No easy cake walk; they make you work hard for that piece of paper. Despite being located in the middle of no where in MD, the perks of being right off the St. Mary's river make up for it. Now, if you're looking for a party school, this isn't the place. The school is very secluded and the campus is small. You're first two weeks there and you'll already have seen every single student, teacher, and staff that works there at least once, literally. Very typical middle/upper class white american liberal arts school. DEFINITELY needs more diversity. But lucky for me, I went to this school for an education, and I'm pleased with the results."

St. Mary's gave me the chance to grow not only academically, but also socially; the small campus and serene setting allowed for an unforgettable college experience."
