Strayer University Reviews
Student & Graduate Reviews (134)
I have had minimal issues with this school from the beginning. I was not told that all my courses would not be counted because of the grade I received. Then I was five courses away and the Professor decided to not grade my work. I contact the professor, no reply. I contacted the counselor and she directed me to student affairs. Student Affairs said that I should come to them when I failed the class. I dropped the class because I cannot jeopardize my GPA for this professor, with his issues. This school will not tell you everything up front and will keep you their to pay money every semester. Don't go to this school.
Beware if you are a returning student from another college. At first they accept your past credits then after a couple of classes they approach you saying they have reviewed your transcripts again and that I needed more classes. More money for them. One reason I decided on Strayer was that they accepted more of my credits and to find out they wasn't going to accept some credits was a big disappointment. It delayed job raises and promotions, Also, some of my books were cut and pasted together, the index did not agree with the chapter page, which was noted by the professor and other students. No refund offered. The education I received was not remarkable. Also, get in writing if you drop/add. I was told I did so in time so as not to be charged, but guess what, the class was on my loan.
I decided to attend Strayer to pursue the MBA route. I have my undergraduate in Nursing but I always wanted to open up my own health agency. Strayer has been extremely helpful with allowing me to be flexible with the program considering my crazy nursing schedule. EVERYONE, that I have come in contact with from the Fredericksburg VA Campus has been extremely nice, approachable and very willing to help. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars for every category is because I currently work for the Department of Veterans Affairs and since my MBA is not related to the field of nursing, they refused to recognize the degree towards a promotion at this time. I am okay with this decision for now because my ultimate goal is to utilize the knowledge and resources I have received from Strayer University to eventually open my own business.
I just graduated from the MBA with concentration in project management program at Strayer University. My undergraduate studies were completed at a brick and mortar private college in NYC. Adjusting to taking online courses was difficult initially at Strayer University, but I opted to start off doing hybrid format until becoming more familiar with the learning modules. This MBA degree was worthwhile. Despite the negative reviews, I completed the program and will move on to pursue a Doctorate. Strayer University is Middle States accredited. If the school offered doctoral programs, I would attend. I received a promotion position within the first three months of getting the degree. Even now, I still get calls for other job offers. I'm originally from New York and like the fact that although I attended Strayer Campuses in the Washington, D.C. metro area, the campuses in New Jersey are close to New York. So, employers are considering my application along the East Coast. The many campuses and accreditation allows for students to be recognized by employers in various states. I will definitely recommend this school to other working professionals. The career services and Workforce Recruitment Program was also beneficial to my job search process.
I recommend this degree program for people who have a mix of management and information technology domains. I found my military experiences in management, supervision and IT projects small and midsize projects technical and operational in nature help early in my classes. However, Stayer's program helped me focus more by conducting academic research and collaborating with professors and students who are in the field.
I attended Strayer for several classes, and even though they are more concerned about the money than the student, I remained with the school due to the online courses and location in Henrico, VA. However, the last time I registered for a class I had difficulties completing the assignment due to Blackboard changed and was never notified. Only having registered for one day and realized I wasn't going to catch up I withdrew from the class. The school charged me a withdrawal penalty for a reason I consider their fault due to lack of communication and REALLY only registered for 1 day and that was a Friday!
My program at Strayer was excellent. The professors were all great and tried to orient the students to help themselves and each other before coming to them. The communications between professors and students is very easy and uncomplicated. Graduating summa cum laude from Strayer was not difficult at all. So far the only negative feedback I have received about the value of my Strayer degree has been from other employees that have not been able to advance in their position without a degree. Strayer University definitely worked for me!!
This university served one purpose for me, to complete my bachelors degree in a technical field as quickly as possible. I transferred to Strayer after dropping out of college 6 years earlier. I finally decided I wanted to go back to school and eventually continue with graduate studies. I reviewed UMUC, UOP, Strayer, and AIC. The only reason why I chose Strayer over UMUC is they accepted more of my previously earned credits. I finished my degree there in 15 months (14 classes). I knew that the reputation of the school would not get me the salary or position I desired (Software Engineer) so I quickly applied to grad school (Johns Hopkins University MS Computer Science). I was quite happy they accepted me and complete my MS in 1.5 years and was hired as a Senior Software Engineer making over $100,000. Like I previously stated, Strayer suited my needs to quickly complete a Bachelors degree in a semi technical topic. It also afforded me the opportunity to go to grad school. For that reason alone I give Strayer 4 stars.
This school is horrible. The degree is a joke and is considered a joke to any other university and any job you seek. The professors want their paycheck and don't care whether or not you learn. I've had my computer crash in the beginning of a test, I called the student services and was basically told oh well you'll just have to work harder to pass the class. Students that attend are co sidered not bright or well trained. I've wasted $20k on a useless education. DO NOT FOR ANY REASON LET THEM LIE TO YOU! Plus for whatever additional charges they wanted to put on me I had to pay $1700 out of pocket. They wouldn't tell me for what.
I am an above average student, however the majority of Professors online are driven to fail students or at least give them lower undeserving grades without actually caring about assisting them or emailing them back. Recently a Professor was relieved before the holidays and instead of having him finish up the quarter with final grades left us stranded with unanswered emails failing grades and absolutely nowhere to turn. Since I am a Veteran and using my benefits, I would like to warn others in the same situation like I am to be aware of this shortcoming. This query and unresolved issue will determine if I continue at Strayer.
