Strayer University Reviews
Student & Graduate Reviews (125)
I am an above average student, however the majority of Professors online are driven to fail students or at least give them lower undeserving grades without actually caring about assisting them or emailing them back. Recently a Professor was relieved before the holidays and instead of having him finish up the quarter with final grades left us stranded with unanswered emails failing grades and absolutely nowhere to turn. Since I am a Veteran and using my benefits, I would like to warn others in the same situation like I am to be aware of this shortcoming. This query and unresolved issue will determine if I continue at Strayer.
Strayer University offers an affordable, convenient, quality education. I have seen that people often erroneously state that Strayer University is not accredited. Strayer University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. This is the same accrediting body that Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Columbia and Temple use. *For more info, see the bottom of this post. I started at NVCC, transferred to Strayer, completed by Bachelors degree in Business, and then went on to an MBA. I am very satisfied with my education. I liked the fact that most of my professors actually worked in the filed they were teaching in, and most of the students were already well placed in their fields. This meant the opportunity to get a "real" education in addition to the academics, the chance to mingle with the right people, and the chance to make meaningful industry connections. (In the DC Metro area and in my field, who you know can make a difference.) Like anything else, you get out if it what you put into it. There were some students who skated by & did the minimum, and then there were the hard workers. I was in the second category. I earned my credentials. Financial Aid: I used the GI Bill for my Bachelors degree & student loans for part of my MBA. There may have been a few administrative hiccups, but nothing serious. The financial aid folks @ Strayer were helpful. My agency paid off my student loan. I'm now making six figures. I am currently supplementing my Strayer credentials with a certificate in Risk Management from Stanford University. __________________________________________________ More info about Strayer's accreditation: *Strayer University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Regional accreditation is granted by one of six U.S. regional accrediting bodies, and represents accreditation for the institutions and all of the programs it offers, across all of its locations. Other institutions accredited by Middle States include Columbia, Princeton, and Penn State. *AACSB and ABET are specialized or programmatic accreditations, often associated with a professional organization. They are optional, although certain institutions do select to pursue them. *AACSB is an optional specialized accreditation for business schools. The AACSB standards are designed to align with the mission of research institutions with an emphasis on faculty scholarship and research. As a University with a mission focused on access, teaching, and the ability to provide instruction from qualified practitioners of business, Strayer University's goals do not align with AACSB's priorities. Only a small proportion of business schools seek and/or are approved for AACSB accreditation. *ABET is an optional specialized accreditation for engineering, applied science, computing, and technology education. Strayer University does not have ABET accreditation, but our IS programs were designed to be consistent with ABET standards (where applicable). ABET is primarily viewed as an accreditation for engineering programs, and as such it does not necessarily fit the mission of Strayer University's programs. *Strayer is licensed through each of the states in which it operates. It is further licensed through the Commonwealth of Virginia to offers its classes and programs online.
In the beginning, I really enjoyed this school & the staff but during my last quarter, that all changed. Upon completing 5 quarters I had landed a great job as a software developer making good money. At that time there was a lot occurring with my job so I decided to stop attending for the time being. I informed the school is probably be back but my job wasn't affording me the time to attend for now. After a few weeks I began receiving emails from professors about assignments. This baffled me bc I wasn't enrolled in this quarter. After contacting the school found out they had in fact reenrolled me with the same classes as the previous quarter. I assumed this was an honest mistake and notified them immediately. After going back and forth with them on when I actually cancelled, they decided they could not remove the quarter and I would have to pay for it. $1200. I found this very insulting as I am a good student, honest and had a good relationship with the staff. After speaking with several higher up representatives they still insisted I owed the money and would only waive $150 of it. Unfortunately I didn't have $1200 to pay them out of pocket so despite any feelings I had of this charge being fair, I stated I would pay it but please roll it into my student loans. This also was not an option according to them. I feel like what appeared to be an honest mistake on their part turned ugly very fast. Strayer University only cares about money, they are criminals in every meaning of the word. Fast forward 2 years now I have a very good job and am building a home. I have $10k tied up with the builder and just discovered they turned this debt into collections. Collections called me up 4 months after they revived the account. Given I now has the money due to my hard work, I went ahead and paid it off entirely. However now, they will not remove it from my credit report. They have a 90 day policy giving the person to handle the debt. Problem is they didn't inform me of this debt until 120 days. So now, I may lose my house and also the $10 I put into it since my credit score has now dropped 50 points bc of this. All over a stupid mistake an admin made at Strayer. I'm looking into an attorney currently. Steer clear of these thieves.
It was a great fit for me. I had to work full time while going to school. Strayer offered on campus and online classes to fit my schedule. It is geared toward working adults.
Strayer is a great school and the professors really care and are ready to help. I made one call and they have been there helping me and motivating. I have been out of school for 17 years and i am doing online classes and it is not hard. You just need to stay focused.
Excellent school. The MBA program is flexible and possesses rigor. The courses were taught by exceptional faculty all of which possessed Ph.D.'s in Business. The truth is people complain about the school they attend if they feel they deserve a better grade or if they feel that their degree did not get them the career or job they wanted. I would tell those that complain they should consider their competencies and personalities before blaming the institution. I have hired thousands of people in my career and 9 out of 10 times the person's character and competency keeps them from being hired, yet their degree got them the interview.
I will be graduating from Strayer University this coming June and I must say that it has be an extremely challenging yet very rewarding experience! I finished my undergraduate degree after a 20 year absence from school, and was wary about pursuing a graduate degree but I am so glad I did! The professors are very knowledgeable and helpful and the administrative and financial aid staff are exemplary! I highly recommend Strayer for anyone wishing to further their education.
I am currently attending Strayer and have been for about a year and a half. Thus far the professors are great and are very helpful in your success. The professors I've had so far go the extra mile in helping students with quizzes and writing assignments, I mean just short of doing the work for you. I am using my veterans’ benefits and have not had an issue with tuition thus far. Strayer U will award you with your desired degree, but you have to put forth the work in completing the assigned work, you are not going to sit and class and ride on the backs of the other students. For working adults, like myself, I feel it’s a great school.
I currently attend Strayer online and to be honest I so love it. I see that everyone has a comment about any school. I had a couple of professors that were the worse but the good out way the bad. Overall I am very happy that I joined Strayer the best decision for me.
Strayer is a for profit school that was charging me $2700 per class for online enrollment in Business Administration. This price was not including books. The "school" was terrible and the professors were semi knowledgeable. While a few of my classes were okay, the majority were poorly taught with little to no interaction from the professors. The online campus was poorly designed and difficult to navigate. Since they have rebuilt it 3 different times. They claim to be for the students, and even said that I was eligible for a scholarship. After signing up for classes and expecting the $2000 Scholarship they said that I was ineligible for the program. I fought for 4 months to get the reimbursement from one class. I eventually dropped my degree and started over with another school because of the lack of administration and terrible professors. The financial issues put it over the top.
