"My experience at Tennessee State University was great. The instructors were helpful and willing to guide me to reach my goals and success at school. Also, The TSU Writing Center was the most helpful resource for me. The school tuition was affordable, and I received a few government grants that helped me with my tuition."

"My undergraduate experience at Tennessee State University was wonderful! I learned how to think, work and serve which is the institutions motto. Studying English with a minor in Political Science enhanced my writing, reading and communication skills. I also became involved in politics and community service through classes and organizations I joined. The College of Liberal Arts at Tennessee State University focused heavily on teacher and student interactions, networking and serving the Nashville community. If I could do it again, I wish I would have joined one of the honor societies for English majors. The honor societies helped advance your writing skills, opportunities and provided scholarships. However, I focused more on the political side because I originally wanted to attend law school post-graduation. Due to the university being a public institution, the connections within the city of Nashville and state of Tennessee made networking easier. I was able to connect with political figures when searching for internship opportunities and jobs through the career center and organizations such as Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. After graduating I worked in the legal and higher education fields for two and half years before starting graduate school. Any students considering Tennessee State University for an undergraduate or graduate degree would benefit from the institution through the organizations, instructors and growing city. Nashville is one of the southern cities that is transforming in a positive way and my alma mater is always making innovative changes to enhance its motto think, work and serve. I would recommend the university to anyone, but I would also suggest that they take college seriously. When earning a degree, the institution only provides you with the tools to succeed. It is up to the individual to determine their success as opportunity comes to those who knock on the door."

"Tennessee State University is an Historically Black College and University in Nashville, TN. There is a great sense of togetherness and love at TSU. The housing is okay it is not the best and the financial aid office could be a lot more timely and organized but I am sure that is the case for a number of different college and University. The department I was in is the Human Performance and Sports Science program. The professors are really helpful and care about your future in that department. It is a real sense of family in that department and classes are taught well."

"Very helpful, the administration was great the guidance was apt, and that helped me go through the entire process knowing what to expect. It really helped me achieve my goals and finish my degree. The environment was safe as long as I was there but it breaks my heart that there have been some security, gun control issues recently. All I want to say is be safe, and pay attention to your goals and where you want to be. The place is getting better safety wise but everything else is great. I had the best time at the cafeteria and their library is awesome and very helpful. You as a student can find many research resources and books in archive to benefit from. There are learning seminars that are held inside the library where you can learn how to do research for your research papers. I had an overall great experience and i hope whoever is going to Tennessee state university has an awesome one too!"

"I chose to study at Tennessee State University because the school offered me the money I needed to pursue my MBA. Prior to coming to TSU, I was working an hourly wage job at an architectural firm, and I saw myself going nowhere. I desired a much more worldly career, one that impacted our global economy. So, I applied to TSU's MBA program and was accepted. Once I started the program, I quickly noticed that it was primarily for students who worked locally and took courses in the evening. And I felt left out. I wanted a great paying job after this program was over. If it wasn't for the National Black MBA Association's Career Fair, I would not have received an MBA Internship at General Motors. That was a wonderful summer after my first year. On one hand, I was happy. But on the other hand, I was disturbed that my MBA program did not or was not offering any kind of career assistance. The classes were very straight forward. Do the work. Get the grade. But I wanted more. I had to accept that my next job was going to come through my own efforts... and not through my school. Unfortunately, the terror attacks on 9/11 would tighten the noose on my job efforts. All doors to opportunity to were shut. I graduated with my MBA in August of 2002. Fortunately, I was dating someone who connected me with the Mayor's office in LA for a marketing consulting job. Tennessee State University's MBA should put more resources in career development for traditional full time students. The MBA program is a good one. It just needs to be better rooted with alumni, HR professionals, and corporations. Tennessee State University's MBA program meets downtown Nashville, on the Avon Williams Campus."

"Tennessee State University (TSU) is an amazing school, with a lot of history and self-enrichment to offer. It is a Historically Black College University (HBCU), at first glance, you would think it lacks diversity, when quite the opposite is true. TSU showed me that diversity lies deeper than the color of your skin. It opened my eyes to how enriched different cultures can be. I learned more about myself over the years of being at TSU than I'd known the previous 18 years of my life. I would recommend going to TSU, and getting involved with the many extra-curricular activities TSU has to offer. It is truly life changing."

"I am currently a student pursuing a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. The school campus is relatively small for a University and is surrounded by a wrought iron fence for safety. The main graduate office seems to lack continuity with its particular graduate programs when it comes to paperwork. As for the Physical Therapy program, the curriculum rivals any other program. I would also say that it even exceeds the level of rigor compared to some others. The professors are excellent in teaching their respective subject matter. One drawback is the lack of enough current technological equipment for students and teachers. Although the school may not seem to be the most attractive on the outside, the professors and the curriculum makes up for it such that I would recommend it to anyone. If I had to rate the school on a 1-10 pt scale, I would rate it an 8 out of 10."

"Hands down the best university out there! Great environment to learn about life, academia, and yourself! Plenty of history to be proud of, and partake in! TSU has amazing extracurricular activities which will make your collegiate experience more than worthwhile. I've met many of lifetime friends by way of TSU! Go Big Blue!!!!"

"TSU is one of the best universities out there. So much history lies behind this marvelous institution. After stepping foot on campus I knew at that very moment I would not go home. The campus was full of people who were so liked minded it was crazy, the campus gave off this relentless vibe of success! Not to mention its an HBCU giving her even more respect. TSU has produced some of the most influential people in our communities today. I recommend that if you have the chance to step into the land of golden sunshine, and truly be great! Go Big Blue!!!!"

"Needing to complete my doctoral degree at Tennessee State University is extremely challenging. I have not felt well supported, advised, or helped. I wish I could finish my dissertation up at another college. Most of my degrees were completed at Tennessee Technological University (TTU), which I enjoyed attending. Being that TTU is local, friendly, and helpful, I wish I could complete the degree there, but since my course work was done at TSU, I need to complete it there. Trying to communicate with the professors and my advisor at TSU has been extremely challenging in the past. I had to set my dissertation completion aside since I was dealing with so many personal issues, and sincerely did not feel that there was a high level of support from TSU. I truly wish I was given a message such as one that was given from a TTU professor, who told our cohort class, "I will take you to the Promised Land!" I set out to do my dissertation about Service Learning, and after I completed a lot of research and work, my current advisor said that was not a good topic. When I asked repeatedly why that was said, there was not a great response. I enjoy teaching students about citizenship, helping others, and achieving success academically. Since I have set it aside for some time, I may have to start over, and just take on another topic, so I don't have to deal with so much criticism. I did not feel well supported through this program. Several others in the cohort I was in, or the one before, have still not completed the requirements, especially since it is so challenging to work through TSU, and is very costly. I do greatly appreciate TTU, the helpful professors, and the students in the education programs, who work within our school system. Although I want to feel proud to wear the special cap and gown when I graduate, I'm not sure it will be meaningful to do it when I complete the program, however, I will consider it a milestone accomplishment and the completion of one of the greatest goals I've tried to achieve. Since I love education and learning, I want to achieve the highest goal I can attain, then allow God to lead me to the path He wants me to follow, find happiness, pride, and success. I truly believe there is something I'm meant to do in life, and feel completing my dissertation, and earning an EdS is part of what I'm meant to do. I also tried to pursue help with veteran benefits, but no useful information was provided, and it was very frustrating to try to find out what I'm eligible for, how to apply for the benefits, and receive what I'm entitled to. Tennessee Tech. did help me through that process, and helped make sure the benefits I was entitled to were found and used, to apply to my financial obligations."

"I took the online program, so I didnt recieve the on campus experience. However, the staff is very friendly and will help in any way possible."
