"The University of Hawaii is a great university. They offer great majors for great careers. They also have a student-run radio station. The courses are challenging and will push you to your limits and beyond."

"I was disappointed in the masters program. Not a fan of being taught by people who were certified a few months prior and have no real job experience. But the professors that did have a lot of experience were great"

"The location is amazing, of course. A large, open campus with lofty ceilings and slatted windows. Studying in the library is awful in the summer, easy in the winter due to lack of temperature regulation. I could walk around the campus with no shoes and only cross a street once from my dorms to the halls. The beach is a 15 bus ride, or a 45 min walk away, in busy Waikiki. However... parking? forget about it. There are maybe two streets open with about 100 spots, and for a commuter school, that is nothing. Otherwise there is a parking structure on a far side of campus next to the athletic complex, a good 25 min walk to classes. At night, the blue light telephones shine brightly, but there are all out of service. As just as I could walk around freely, so do loads of other people, at all times of the day. Students, strangers, the homeless. The campus isn't pretty, but they have some large elderly trees that may interest some people. The instruction was weak. As a STEM student, I took many classes where the teacher either outright bored of teaching, and would drone through lectures - with no questions - all on a power point lecture. The English department was a joke, with huffy professors long past their prime of writing, trying desperately to get students to be impressed with their publications from 20 years ago. You will enjoy the campus life, nearby social scenes and ease of entertainment all confined in downtown Honolulu, but be warned, this education is mostly self-taught."

"The University of Hawaii is a school different from any school in the US. There is a tremendous amount of diversity, which makes learning about other people and cultures integral to the experience. The campus and weather are spectacularly beautiful. Although some of the building are run down. The university has an excellent disabilities service (Kokua), for everything from dyslexia to PTSD to blindness. I would not have been able to graduate without their help. Overall I had a very good experience and graduated with honors (magna cum laude)."

"A friendly atmosphere with students of various ethnic and national backgrounds. An excellent school for those interested in Pacific Island Studies, or Pacific languages."

"The university's budgeting is a farce. If you even considered the UH system you have probably seen "wonder blunder" or issues with June jones, gib arnold, or norm chow. As a whole, I wish I could be proud of my university, but I attended because it was what I personally could afford. If I went away I would still be paying offffgggghyrhj my undergraduate loans. Also, they make it extremely difficult to graduate with ano undergraduate degree in 4 years because of scheduling of prerequisites. My graduate program was amazing though. The teachers, program, and peers make me proud to have gone into LIS at UH."

"Making connections, keeping your choices open (working hard in every class, regardless of whether you like it), and seeing learning as a continuum (something you should constantly be striving for) are the most important things. (Afterall, if you're not going forward, you're going backwards.) Specializing is for insects. My university offered me broad perspectives and trained me in many different theatrical disciplines. Learning lighting, design, costumes and publicity were helpful--even when concentrating in writing, acting and directing. UHM is especially known for its Asian Theatre program and theatre history."

"The MEdT program at UH Manoa is very well-rounded and competitive. Although tuition is not cheap, I am confident that once I graduate I will be able to secure a good job and get started on a stable and rewarding career. The in school experience throughout the 2 year Masters program makes all of the difference as well. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to pursue teaching as a career to enroll."

"It's a great program allowing the student to move as fast or as slow as they want through the process. Hawaii is distracting so a bit slow tends to be the norm. There are many opportunities for hands on research, outreach, collaboration, etc. The community is very supportive, all a student needs to say is I am a student at UH Manoa and many doors open."

"The program and instructors are great. The American Studies Department of UH Manoa is already formidable, and is only getting better. No doubt their ranking will go up now that they have the editorialship for the publication of the American Studies Association, American Quarterly."

"The University of Hawaii provides a rich multicultural environment--at the time I attended, It was considered a top school for Asian Studies. I was also able to indulge my passion for dance And music--including Javanese Dance, ballet, hula, and bharata natyam. UHM was lacking in terms of a community feel. Many local students attend as commuters. It also has the feel of a larger school--many lower level classes have 100 or more students."

"The CIS PhD program is very self-directed, which is an advantage at times but may get students lost sometimes as well. Some faculty is very helpful but being an interdisciplinary program, some professors are already too busy with their "home" department to follow up on CIS students progress. Financial aid from the CIS program is practically non-existent (beside 1 TAship and a tiny fund to cover little research expenses) and you will have to look for graduate assistantships in other departments, from what I have seen though, CIS students usually find one without too much trouble."

"The Master of Accounting Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa prepares its students well for a successful and fulfilling career in Accounting. The faculty is brilliant and encourages students to think outside the box, while providing the tools necessary to find a successful career in the Accounting field. While the school has a large endowment, the cost of the program is still high, even for residents. However, the quality education and experiences that the school provides is well worth it. Unlike other programs, the Shidler College of Business at UH Manoa emphasizes a global perspective to its students. The school encourages students to learn about other cultures and about international business and business relations. I feel this is so crucial to developing well-educated professionals who truly want to make a difference."
