Great College but very expensive. I guess because of the technology used in the learning system the cost of attendance consequently had to be high. I am glad I attended and enjoyed my tenure as a student. I would still want to attend the school if only I can pay myself the tuition which is part of my plan.
I do not understand why the reviews on here are so bad. I have VAST experience with college as I have transfered between Comm Colleges and Universities. I live in CT, a TOP state for Education and I must say that I was challenged by my classes. I majored in English, which many people laugh about, and am going for a Masters with them as well. My FinAid and Academic Advisor were wonderful, i was always informed of my account, status and anything I need. I was always contacted prior to a class to make sure I had all materials needed and if I had too many absences both my advisors contacted me to let me know i needed to post. All the comments I see about how expensive it is to go to UoP just further my skepticism in these people even knowing the college system in the US. Unless you only want an AA or AS degree you will be paying until you DIE for student loans. That is the name of the education game here in the US. As for failing a course and getting your money back, that would not happen anywhere, not UoP or any other school. I recommend UoP to anyone who needs the flexibility of distance learning.
Interesting comments from everyone. Here is my take. The degree is "fine" -- but it is what you make out of it. Reading everything about UOP is concerning -- but I worked 4 years and 4 months on the degree and I do have a diploma. My company recognizes the college and, fortunately, most of my contacts also recognize the college. I do understand those that have not had success with the degree -- but I, personally, have not had a problem with the degree.
This school is nothing but a big money scam! I went and received my associates degree for IT and when I recieved my degree, I can honestly say I have more knowledge in biology and religions of the world. I too me through my entire program maybe 5 courses of IT and still did not get any knowledge of it. When it came time for me to ask a question to the "teacher", I most of the time never got responses back. If I needed a tutor for anything they had one assigned to me over the phone and it was always someone that could barely speak proper English! Or if I wanted to meet someone in person, I was supposed to drive 2 hours on my own expense rather than go to a local UOP campus. What crap is that?! I never got the assistance needed! UOP also told me once I graduated they would help me find a job in my area and that was more of a joke! They sent me a website that was similar to monster.com! Now what the hell is that?! Now come time to pay the loans back.....I was not able to make my payments because I was and "still" stuck at the same dead end job and I don't make squat for money so my loans were sent to debt collectors, ok...I get that...I made payment arrangements and continued to make payments and they assured me that if I make my payments that my income taxes would not be intercepted! Yeah right...I counted on their word in hopes I would be able to pay my property taxes and now I can't because they went back on every word they said. UOP has been nothing but he'll for me, I am embarrassed to even say I went to school there. I am more proud and confident saying I never continued on with school rather than me saying I went there! This school is a big joke! Online schooling, NOT WORTH IT! Go to a local tech school, you will never regret, not to mention WAY the hell cheaper! Just for my bogus associates degree that didn't benefit me for anything, I owe a total as of now $45,500,( they lie, to add money on too for no reason) they like to tack money on....and still at my dead end job. I encourage you all to seriously consider tech school, an on campus school. Piss on UOP, I know of many who did this in my area and unfortunately we are going through the same thing. Please make a good choice and do not choose UOP.
Terrible experience - From enrolling to coursework to billing to disputing issues. The entire endeavor of going to school at University of Phoenix has been a nightmare. This school seems to care only about getting as much money from you as possible before you get frustrated and move on. They have a notoriety for preying on Veterans and taking advantage of their government benefits and they show little to no interest in helping individuals actually succeed in higher learning. The coursework is laughable, their processes for enrolling and selecting courses is sketchy at best, and the simple fact that none of their credits will actually be acknowledged or accepted by ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY should've been a huge red flag. All told I wasted a world of time and money attempting to attend this "university"
I attended the university of Phoenix for my associates, bachelor's , masters' and now for my doctoral degree. I have seen and read many reviews and I don't understand why past or present students or faculty choice to blame a college or university for not getting a good grade or finding a job etc.... I have learned over the years we as people are responsible for the choices we make in life and if you fail at a task don't blame the next person blame yourself. The university of phoenix is no different than any other institution of higher learning. And it is not the only online university offering degrees either. So why are people focusing all the negative attention on them I don't know but research any institution before you enroll find out everything about the college because it is up to YOU!!! to ensure that the university or college will provide " the student" with the knowledge needed to succeed. And do not let negative reviews influence your decision call the department of education and higher learning commission if you have questions about any institution of higher learning. TAKE RESPONBILITY FOR YOUR OWN LEARNING !!!
I would not recommend this school to anyone who wants a real degree or reputable education. Start off with a community college or something reputable if you want a worthwhile degree that won't crush you with debt. I chose UofP out of convenience to take one class to transfer into into my current university. I'll be completing a degree in civil engineering from RIT this May and needed a class to fill a free elective requirement. At the time I was on a 1.5 year leave of absence from RIT and deployed overseas with the military. I had my doubts about a for profit school (which were proven right) and knew of their reputation ahead of time, but the credit would transfer and the course was convenient to take. To start off I was very disappointed with the responsiveness of the admissions and financial services staff. They would hardly ever respond to my emails or calls, but would send out automated emails regularly. The class itself was very easy and hard to take seriously. The majority of the class was based off of an online discussion forum and weekly assignments. The assignments, and postings that people made to the forum made the class hard to take seriously. There were never any tests or assessments to to measure if a student actually learned something - you just went through the motions for a few weeks then got credit. If you are in the military - be wary of schools like this. They are set up to harvest the GI Bill/TA etc. Be wary of this school, and do your research on accreditation! It worked for me to just get one class out of the way conveniently, but please don't consider a degree from here!
The worst school ever!! I would never recommend anyone to ever try this school. THEY RIP YOU OFF AND DON'T CARE!!! I went four weeks before withdrawing(after finding out none of my credits transfer to a real university) and now I owe 800.00!!! For four weeks???? After four years I could just have saved that money and probably retired!! Run if you are thinking about going!!
I attended UOP for five years to obtain my MBA online. Before that, I went to Seattle Pacific University, it was not easy for me to have a full time job and finish my MBA. After, transferring MBA credits from SPU to UOP, I was able to fit everything together and finish My MBA. Based on my experience, I can tell you getting an MBA from UOP is no joke, it is a hard program to obtain, you have to work really hard everyday to make it. It was actually harder for me than a traditional class at SPU. I am an Engineer and I know for sure what is hard school and what is not, and I can assure you that getting an MBA from UOP is a pain in the rear, you have to be ready for real school work to get it PERIOD.
I chose UOPX out of convenience. Plus, my employer paid for my classes. It's an okay school if you're just looking for a piece of paper. I really struggled with this place. I wasn't born rich and I wasn't quite poor enough to get money handed to me for my education. So, I worked with my employer..... If you value hard work that equals great rewards, stay away! I had really high expectations of my performance and had to fight my instructors to get grades that reflected my work ethic. It pisses me off and find it just "sad" that I had to go this route.
