All stated opinions are as follows: I am in the doctorate program for social work at Walden University. Through the prospectus stage and overall research (after all classwork was completed with a 4.0 GPA), I began experiencing gaslighting, a matter of opinion versus scholarly writing recommendations, etc., to which I have not been approved for the next stage after spending at least 12k just on the first stage alone, not including previous coursework. Chairpeople, who are the gatekeepers, must be... Read More

I had some awesome advisors along the way, so the whole experience wasn’t bad, but I experienced sooo many expenses issues. Three semesters I didn’t have a chair person to guide me through doctoral study to help and when continued to ask it was a run around. One semester I got a partial refund with information the issue would be resolved, then I got a chair person very intelligent during Covid so person experienced some medical challenges, then I went another semester with no chair person and no... Awful. Facilities don’t like Walden or the students. I searched for close to 2 years to try to find a preceptor and finally found one. I had a MD willing to take me on for the 160 hours but only had an opening before the start of the semester. I tried appealing, calling, begging for an exception. I was willing to save homework to hand in later to not burden the professor. This is my masters so I have done clinicals and rotations before this at 3 other universities (I graduated all with honors). Unlike... Read More

The program is not user friendly. Poorly instructed. Difficult to navigate. Little to no support. Attending this school was the biggest mistake I've ever made. I am withdrawing and maybe going back to Capella. Heed all warnings before enrolling.

I have completed my coursework. I am now in the dissertation phrase and practicum/internship. My chair hasn't provided me feedback on my dissertation in the last two quarters. I am currently having to add a second practicum site due to not meeting Walden's requirements for practicum. Walden's criteria for practicum sites does NOT align with APA or my state guidelines nor did Walden flag the issues I had with my current site. Now they are rejecting documents that have been approved for the last 2... Read More

I transferred from Ashford. Ashford University was in trouble at the time. I was at senior level and wanted to keep my education goal alive. Walden accepted majority of my credits. Not even a year of attending Walden, I was hit with a bill. A bill a little less than $2,000. The finance department could not clarify details of how I accumulated such bill when I had not finished beginning classes. I was disabled with poverty level income. They block me from going any further with my degree. The balance... Read More

Degree: Counseling

Want to hear all about social justice, but not about things you need to know as a counselor? Do you enjoy being taught by people who have never left the university to work in the counseling field, and dress like circus freaks? Do you love paying money for the privilege of pretending you take any of those people seriously? Then Walden is the place for you! Every single article, video, and writing assignment is all about how everybody who isn't white is poor and downtrodden, and the people who are... Read More

I just finished my MBA through Walden. Utilizing their Tempo program was efficient, and the most affordable route to an MBA. I had really good service from their support staff and faculty. I do truly feel i got a lot out of the content. ACBSP accredited just like my 2 local universities. I just wish they had more zoom/interaction opportunities.

Degree: Criminal Justice

I don't know what happened in the criminal justice program, but all of the instructors I took classes with ten years ago are gone. I had such a good experience with my bachelor's and came back for my doctorate after a long break. I didn't recognize any of the professor's names and the classes were terrible. Luckily I dropped out very early on, but it was a costly mistake. Speaking with students who stuck with the doctoral program, all of the classes are outdated, and their assignments are nothing... I will be finishing with my dissertation in the next few weeks and it has been a long process but worth it in the end. Walden represents positive social change which happen to be a great fit for me. I was privileged to have great chair members help me achieve my goals and reach the finish line. My experience has been exceptionally positive and Im am glad I stuck it out. It is a lot of work completing the dissertation process but a level of commitment is essential in completing the program. Consider... Read More

I absolutely would not pay for this school or waste your time. There is nothing that sets this school apart from other schools with the exception of the ridiculously high cost, which again, is not worth it. Bopping between individuals to get anything figured out is an absolute nightmare. Hands down the worst schooling decision I have made.

Degree: Nursing

I enrolled in Walden University for a post graduate degree, but found their financial aid and bursar's office seriously lacking. Their overall customer service and connection to students is wanting due to lack of communication between departments, limited and if any guidance and support. I would not recommend this school to anyone, much less my peers.

The communication was horrendous. It’s staffed with representatives who some are great, and the others have no idea what they are talking about and read off their scripts. I withdrew last winter for personal reasons and was looking to go back. First I was told I did not need a SAP appeal. I was told this by two very competent reps… then it all went down hill. I applied to have it reviewed twice only to have an email sent twice saying I wasn’t a student even when I was registered for classes. When... Read More

I was a student enrolled in the Public Health PhD program and logged in once when the classroom opened up. Unfortunately, due to a life-threatening medical emergency with my mother I opted to withdraw from school after 2 days in the course. Walden should not be an accredited nursing university. I have gained little to no knowledge here. They have taught me nothing that I need to know for the clinical experience. The board of nursing needs to look into this school. There is typically one weekly homework assignment that has nothing to do with our future practice. Our midterm and final are not even proctored the majority of the time. There is no challenge at university. Unprepared and unknowledgeable nurse practitioners are known to come... Read More

I would give the program 5 stars but one incident/person ruined everything. I have graduated so now feel comfortable talking about this incident. Most of the professors were great. One person/professor tried to derail me and took a personal interest in trying to destroy my progress. She is one of the higher ups and is a TOXIC NARCISSIST. Be very careful. If you advocate for yourself, stand up for yourself, she will try to destroy you personally and professionally. I waited until I graduated to post... Read More

This review highly targets potential nursing and NP students. Please, I beg of you, read this. Walden University is an online "university" that provides flexibility to working adults. Because of its nationwide reach, it provides continuous education for military and military-associated students at risk of delays because of having to move. I am a military spouse who worked as a nurse full-time. The flexibility that Walden offered highly appealed to me. However, entering Walden University was the worst... Read More

I highly recommend this school to anyone with the flexibility to work from home. You must utilize practical time management skills for this program to work effectively. By no means does it mean the school is easier, but if you apply yourself and make valuable connections with your colleagues, obtaining your degree will be easier and more pleasant. You must be self-motivated and willing to complete all assignments and tasks on time. As humans, we are not perfect, and there are instances where the... Read More

Walden = diploma mill. I was originally in the Psych NP program, until I did my research. Walden U has a great “product”. But this is a business first, a school second. Keep in mind that anyone who applies gets in & your degree will be seen as second rate. I was told by my first clinical preceptor (that Walden makes you find on your own) that I would probably not even get an interview there because I was going to “one of those online schools”.
