I completed and received As for two of the core classes I would need for a Master's in Nursing education. I was told several times over that if put a hold on taking courses due to financial reasons, that I could resume and re-enroll without losing those credits. A year later, I had the funds saved up to take my third course and I was informed that the two courses I already took would not transfer and would not count. The reason stated was that the "upgraded" their program. Maybe next time, they can... Read More

I went through the BSN program and was very impressed with the easiness of the program set up. The success was wonderful as far as following up and making sure my learning needs were met. I completed my degree in 18 months taking 1 class at a time. The program was easy to work in to my home life as well as being more affordable than other programs at less than $400/credit hour it was about the same price as my local University. I started at ASU in 2010 with 4 bridge courses from my Bachelors Degree to entering an RN to MSN degree program. I am now within 3 courses of finishing my MSN in Case Management. I am taking the course for self satisfaction and not for career advancement. My only regret is that I did not take my MSN degree at an earlier in my career. I found as others stated that... I attended ASU beginning in February of 2011 and was able to graduate by June 2012. Everything went very smooth for me. Alot of writing which is what you are to expect. So if you do not like to write, do not like to follow a format, and cannot self-motivate, no online school will be for you. I have encouraged over 35 other nurses to continue with their eduction with ASU. Not one of them complained about the school. The school is obviously for profit, but they took it to a whole new level. The tuition maxed the military TA, but they had additional charges for "access" to your class. $150 entry fee, semester charges of $70, $350 to change majors. It seems as if everything had some unexplained fee. The teachers are horrible in the sense that they don't care. I at one point had an instructor tell me it wasn't her job to communicate with me on the phone. She said it was only email and that she only checked it/dealt... Read More

I am so devastated at the fact that my employer,  does not accept nor acknowledge my BSN degree from American Sentinel University. American Sentinel University is CCNE and DETC accredited however; they are not regionally accredited. What a waste of time, money, and energy. I can't believe this. Pros: This school is not for those who cannot multitask, or maintain self-discipline. However, this school was great for any working adult who need to obtain their degree while cannot afford the time or the cost of a traditional school. I transferred my credits from a traditional school to ASU because I started working full time to support my family and I must say I love the online environment. I ace in the school more than I did in the traditional school because my traditional school's professors... Read More

Cons: I don't know about now but there should be more interaction between the teachers and the students and between the students. Sometimes it does get a bit lonely. Apart from that, if you are graduating from a computer science degree then you have to do lots of your own career growth as the school will not provide that. Most reputed firms also do not recognize the degree from the university.

I completed my course work on 2/10! I had a good experience at ASU. Classes were challenging and reasonably paced. The most important things to know about any online learning course work: 1. You must be disciplined - this is a university - not high school! 2. Nearly all learning is self taught through assignment research and discussions with fellow students 3. YOU get out of the program what YOU put in - this is the same for all schools

I did have some frustrations with the financial department being... Read More

I earned my Masters in Computer Science at ASU. I wanted a challenging program and I wasn't disappointed. Every class of challenging and I made it even more so by striving for excellence trying to earn an "A" in every class. I was enrolled in the Computer Science program. The classes were generally pretty challenging, for several reasons:

1) Aggressive timeline - a lot to cover in 8 weeks

2) quality of text books were inconsistent. Some texts were terrible and created more confusion. However, even these texts are commonly used through out academia.

3) Instructors fell into three categories: Absent (50%), Terrible (40%), and Great (10%)

4) Depending on the instructor, the value of the online "discussions" varied

The discussion quality - well, it depends on the instructor and the other students. Win some, lose some.

The staff is friendly and helpful most of the time. There were a few instances where there were some administrative issues that seemed difficult to resolve and I couldn't understand why.

I also experienced an issue where I was informed that a class was a pre-requisite for another class, then informed AFTERWARDS that this class would not count towards my degree. I was then told that a really didn't HAVE to take the pre-requisite at all, so I essentially wasted $750 for an entry level class that I had no business taking.

The course work is real, though - you'll work hard for most classes. Some classes were easy because, well the subject matter was easy. It's essentially self-study, which is not always a bad thing. I definitely do NOT feel like I have sham-degree - again, many classes I worked my butt off.

I have also taken brick-and-mortar classes previously, and to be honest I learned just as much with my ASU classes as I did at the University.

My criticism of ASU is that I would like to see more recorded lecture presentations by the ASU staff. Students help each other out by suggesting free online lectures (YouTube)for many of the courses, but dedicated lecture material would be more helpful. I say this because for my first Bachelors degree, I hardly cracked a book. I gleaned most of the information from the lectures I attended. For ASU, I read every page assigned to me and look to outside sources for better understanding of the material.

If you are a student that is disciplined, motivated, and learns well from a book, then ASU is the school for you.

I received my BS in Information Systems from ASU in 2000; my BS in Computer Science in 2003. I am about to graduate from my MS program in Business Intelligence at ASU. Provided an individual has the ability to manage their own time successfully, ASU provides one with a great college curriculum at a reasonable cost, with plenty of individual support and with the flexibility that online offers to many who would otherwise be unable to commit to a long term educational program.

Hello All, I would not recommend this school. It all seems okay when you first enroll and your first couple of classes you will be fine. They were able to obtain the CCNE accredidiation for both the BSN and MSN programs which is a plus. However, they put you through a lot of pain and agony the further into the program that you get.

I have completed all except 2 classes and the capstone project. The financial aide department screwed me. I am a self paying student and was on a payment plan for 12 credit... Read More

So rather than start over I paid $1000 to them to get out the first contract and it still was not enough to pay off my total balance so they added $150 to my new monthly payment which is now $650 a month. They were not supposed to charge me the $500 any more for the first contract and low and behold they did causing me to have paid them $1500 within a 2 week period of time with another payment set up to hit my account for $650 within another week. I called the school and raised holy hell and after 2 weeks they refunded me the $500. I was not prepared to be hit with all of this within 1 month. I am only paid once a month and their error made it difficult for me during that month.

This school is a trap so steer clear. I was too far in it to get out so I have chosen to finish as I don't want to start over as other nursing schools will not allow you to transfer your credits from ASU. That is how they get you. They treat you real nice until you only have a few classes let and then they yank the rug from underneath you. They know it won't be easy for you to transfer and most tough it out because of only having a few classes left to graduate. At the end of the day you will graduate but you will have to jump through a lot of hoops to get there./p>

Be ready to be frustrated. Classes that are 8 weeks long seem very attractive but just know it will be the longest and worst 8 weeks of your life. I have a friend who is in the BSN program at ASU and she says she will not be pursuing her MSN at ASU. She is in the same boat I am in. Only a few classes left and ASU started being ridiculous. She is sticking it out because she can't transfer credits to another program. On a positive note I have had some great instructors. They have a passion for teaching and are reasonable. However, the majority of the instructors are just plain ridiculous and these are the types of instructors whom will be teaching the majority of your classes. ASU does not have a lot of instructors so you are bound to have the same ones in 3-4 of your classes. If you start off on a bad foot with them in 1 class they will remember you and hold it against you in another class which again makes for a long and miserable 8 weeks. While ASU may be reasonably priced and have 8 week classes just know that cheap is not always better. You get exactly what you pay for.

I recommend Sacred Heart University. They are set up on 8 week courses online and are regionally and CCNE accredidated. I chose ASU over Sacred Heart University because of ASU was cheaper but I surely regret this decision now. Please do your homework before deciding to enroll at ASU. I did do not homework but did not read the reviews on ASU prior to starting. I realize some students will write bad reviews because they did not do what was expected of them. I am not one of those type of students. ASU professors do hold you accountable to complete quality assignments and if you do not your grade will reflect it. I have all A's in my classes but I have had to work for them in each class. So if you are looking for a school that will just hand you a passing grade ASU is not the place for you.

At the end of the day you need to learn something so that you can apply it in the workplace. I can truly say that I have learned a lot in the MSN nursing program at ASU but do think that it is ridiculous that they put you through a lot of hurdles in the meantime. It would be better for ASU you weed at students during the first couple of classes instead of trapping them and making it difficult during the last few classes when students are less like to drop. It makes me think they do this on purpose to trap you. Good luck with your search. I hope you find my comments helpful.

A lot of the people who have a bad experience at ASU are somewhat lacking this self-discipline, as it is easy to get behind very quickly.

I guess the thing I liked the best about ASU, besides the quality of the courses, was the ability to work my studies around my work schedule and complete the program on my terms. I'm in the Army and it was not at all possible for me to attend traditional classes. Besides, I doubt that you'll be able to find a less costly accredited university anywhere!

I know this might seem like some sort of commercial, but this is really how I feel. At least try a few classes and give it a try.
