I love Ashford so much! I have been reading a lot of the reviews and I am very disapointed that some people had such terible experiences with AU. I attended UoP for almost two years before this and I did not have a problem with the, but I had a problem with the way their Bachelors programed worked and also when I asked if I could change my major, they said I would have to restart almost my entire associates program over, I dont think so!
So my friend found AU and I I contacted them and guess what? They accepted all of my completed credits plus withe credits that have nothing to do with my new major will go to the elective courses, so that knocks a lot of classes out. The team that works with me has very extremely helpful and if they don't pick up their phone when I call they call me back within a couple of hours or by the following day. I am very excited about Ashford and my husband is starting next week and my best friend who found this school is going in Jan 2012. Also my husband recieves the GI bill and they told him that if it runs out before he graduates they have ways to extend it AND the have a grant that they give to military students to will help them cover the classes.
Please do not get into too much deep thought about the negative posts you are reading - I have had a few things documents that got lost in transaction, but I also had this happen when applying for our mortgage! No one is perfect, sometimes things get lost and people don't communicate like they should. But you if are modivated you will assign yourself to be the middle man and get things done. I had to play with part with UoP and Ashford a couple of times to transfer and I also had to do this between my enrollment advisor and financial aid, but everyone is really nice and supportive.
This school is a joke. They transfer little to no credits and accept the same. Asked them to change my degree plan months ago and everyone is lost. They never requested one of my transcripts and because of that I am taking courses I have already taken. Their degree will mean nothing to employers for sure.
This school is excellent. Save the one or two days I have to log in for a minute per attendence, I can work at my own pace. I love this school and the opportunities it has and will continue to give me.
Though I cannot get my teaching accredidation there, I suspect that is the same way it would be if I want to a brick and mortar school out of my state. I cannot wait to graduate, start working, and go for my masters etc. at Ashford! GO TO THIS SCHOOL! I love it! :)
I had to write this because I really don't understand what a lot of people who are complaining are talking about. I have not had any problems getting in touch with any of my advisers. I send them an email and by the next day they have either called or emailed me back. I am about 6 months away from graduating and have found that I have learned a lot from my time at Ashford. I think that a lot of people expect things to be handed to them or done for them, in this school you need to take accountability for yourself. I would recommend this school to anyone who asks!
The reviews that are negative seem to have a central theme. And seem to be coming from people who do not have experience in a brick and mortal university. In my experience its the same in every university. I have attended VA Tech, UVa, and now Asford. I can tell you that I have had the same experience everywhere.
You cannot withdraw after a certain period, well you can but you are still responsible for the cost of the class. I have been enrolled for about 4 months and I am taking more than one class at a time.
I have no problems contacting advisors, financial, academic or otherwise. Yes you have to take classes you do not want to, but look at the cirruculum at any school, you have to meet certain requirements in humanities, etc. Not sure what the complaints about easy classes are all about. I want easy classes my goal is to get in and out as fast as possible, easier the better - I doubt when I enterview for a job my potential employer is going to care about how easy the classes were, all they care about is the paper that says your graduated.
I can say that classes do get harder as you move out of electives and into major classes, and the quality of your fellow students increases as well. Its not easy and its not cheap, but shop around and make your own decisions, regardless of where you go its your responsiblity to take care of you, no one else will do it for you.
Ashford University is a joke, the quality of the classes is very poor. The FA office will rip you off, they hit you with a HUGE bill before you graduate. I got my degree and I NEVER BOUGHT A BOOK. This school is a joke
I have been attending Ashford online now for close to a year. I haven't reached my major courses yet but so far, I'm loving the experience. The guy who helped me enroll in this college was not pushy. I called to ask them a question and he told me what they offer and asked if I would be interested. I told him I'm not sure and that he can call me in a few days. When he did, he never tried and forced me into this. He asked if I thought about it and was interested. This really stuck out to me because I also called another university to ask them about there courses and they had someone call me for months, even after I told them I didn't want to enroll there.
The classes are easy at first but have been getting harder. This is my first time in college and it has been fun. The instructors are very helpful and the staff of Ashford, my financial advisor and academic advisor, are really nice and have always been very informative with the pursuit of my degree. They even call like once a month to check on how I'm doing and see if I have any questions.
All in all, I would highly recommend this college.
There is so much wrong with this school, I dont know where to begin. I could write about five pages worth of bad remarks, but I am sure most of you wouldn't read it. If you look at the yellow the top and how it describes the way Ashford accepts military training as credits, it's not true. I had 41 transferable military credits, they gave me five of those. They seem helpful at first, but once they get you in, all they want is your money. Go somewhere else. Military service members, if you want trasferrable credits to be applied, go to American Military University.
I've been attending Ashford for over 2 1/2 yrs to get my Bachelor's in BIS and I absolutely love it. I cannot believe how lazy some of these people sound on here. Did you expect college to be easy? Did you expect financial advisors to make sure your financial aid goes through? YOU ARE A GROWN ADULT...no one does your work for you. Stop hating for being ignorant.
As far as coursework, yes the first couple courses were simple, and some of the basics...but once you get into your actual major, it is a different story. Some professors are helpful, some suck, some you hate, some you love...but that is no reflection on the school. That is a reflection of college in general. If you ask me, the workload is ALOT for 5 weeks, so if you are a procrastinator, then this is not the school for you.
This education experience has well surpassed my expectations and I will be going on to get my MBA here because I love Ashford.
To the admitting person that said they used to work here...that is total crap. My admitting girl still keeps in contact with me and bestfriend who she enrolled. So to everyone else, that former employee is lying.
At Ashford University the instruction (Professors) are great. The cost in online tution and books is the best you can find anywhere. It is a regionally accredited university.. the same agency tht accredits state and ivy-league colleges and universities. The college's inception was 1918. It is just a great catholic university.
