Ashworth College Reviews of Bachelor's in Psychology

I am going to the school right now and I’m getting my bachelors degree in psychology here because it extremely cheap and I can go get my masters and doctorate at a nicer school. I do not want to go into debt this gives me the opportunity to go to school debt free. If you can’t afford 1500 every 6 months then the school is not for you. I first want to start off by saying that i enjoyed being able to work at my own pace. I enjoyed the flexibility of finishing my degree from home and still not missing a beat with my family. My issue is with the money aspect. They don't allow for Financial Aid, but i thought i was ok since i originally was paying like $40 a month. The issue was that i was completing my semesters faster than planned( a good thing) but before long i went from paying $40 a month to $150 dollars a month, and that was... Read More a little more out of my budget. The most they could do was skip a month in payment, but i still owed almost $3,000 because i was paying for at least 3 semesters. I am literally about a semester in a half from my Bachelor's degree, but i have since been sent to collections because i could not keep up with the payments. i wish that this school accepted financial aid, or even allowed loans to help. I worked so hard, but spinned myself in a financial web with this school. I'm not saying dont go to this school. im just saying do your research, i;d rather have my degree and be paying on a loan, than to not have anything and still owe( because they wont release even my associates until those semesters are paid for.

This was once a great program. But over the years, it's fallen apart. They've switched entirely to ebooks, but they charge the same tuition. Have a grade dispute? You'll either get one of two things: No response at all, or a response that is either ridiculous or poorly reasoned. Take for instance one situation where an exam asked a question that was not found anywhere in the study material. Nope, sorry, but when the test asks a question about a very specific scientific study that was never covered in the materials, it's not "obvious", the question is improper and shouldn't be on the exam. You don't test students on things they weren't taught. Period, end of story. Don't get me started on how papers are graded. The Professors they hire tend to have impressive credentials, but I question the GPAs they achieved to get those degrees because almost every one of them seems to have very wrong ideas about APA format and none of it is consistent as the rules change with each Professor. The school also seems to think that a rubric alone is sufficient to grade papers when anyone who has at least graduated from junior high school knows that in order for grading to be effective there must be specifics. If you tell a student "You have issues with punctuation" but you then fail to show where those issues are exactly in the paper, clearly the student cannot correct them. The fact that such a basic understanding has to be explained to them is maddening and they do not understand the problem at all. This may be the only school on earth where you don't actually get to see your graded papers, you simply get back generalizations of issues, and many times even those aren't correct. I would say, if you don't give a damn about your grades or improving on papers you've written since the feedback is so laughably poor, then Ashworth College will work fine for you. You will learn plenty from the courses as the course structures are as good as can be for an independent study program. But from the Professors and administrators you will learn absolutely nothing other than the fact that they either operate on apathy or ignorance or both.

Teachers are NOT required to hold any office hours. If you have a question specific to your course and your teacher doesn't check the chat, has chat disabled, and doesn't have an email address for you to contact then ypu are out of luck. You jave to go through the ticket center which will tell you to call customer service which won't know how to help you because they are ypur professor and don't know what is required for each course. Sorry for the length of this. I am newly enrolled at Ashworth College, and I just passed my first class. I am a transfer student with half a bachelor's-worth of credits from regionally accredited schools. I am writing this solely to offer some advice when considering enrollment: Credits and degrees from DEAC accredited schools are accepted by many colleges and employers, and not accepted by others. I have done extensive job searching on job search engines as well as looked at a large number of colleges... Read More over the past seven years trying to figure out what I want to do, and have noticed that a handful of jobs require a regionally accredited degree, however, the majority of the time they just want an accredited degree. If you are considering graduate study, some colleges simply want a bachelor's degree from an institution that is accredited by a body recognized by the department of education, and some want it from a regionally accredited school. If you want to make sure your degree is recognized by all schools and employers, go for a regionally accredited college. If you don't mind certain employers and colleges not recognizing your degree or credits, then Ashworth is a very affordable as well as time-saving option (if you choose to work quickly). You can graduate in as little as six months. It is $79 per credit for the bachelor's degree program I am enrolled in. That is a very good price, as I was paying $300-400 per credit at the other schools I have been to. Also, I do not feel overloaded with coursework. So, the benefits of Ashworth are saving time and money, and also less of a headache when it comes to study load. The drawback is the lack of regional accreditation. I would say keep in mind when reading the bad reviews, that sometimes they are based on misunderstandings. People don't do their research or don't read the paperwork they signed or have one bad experience and go off on rants. Some good reviews are also based off of the rush of being a new college graduate and are posted by folks who have not gone on a job search or applied to grad school yet. Take every review with a grain of salt is my point, and do your research. Figure out what you need from a school, and what your plans are (job, grad school etc.) and make your college selection accordingly. For me, I am laid back about my job/career prospects and don't mind if certain employers and schools won't accept my credits/degree, as long as most of them will. If you are very particular about that, then pick a regionally accredited school. If you aren't, Ashworth is great. If you are concerned about the reputation of the school, then apply to Harvard or Yale or UC Berkeley. I just want my degree and to get a job doing what I love. DEAC accreditation is good enough for me since the department of education recognizes it. Some people need prestige or excellent customer service or less self-directed study and more structure. That is fine. I am not one of those people. Just consider what you want and need and don't believe everything you read without thinking about it or doing your research. Try going on Indeed or Glassdoor and running a job search in your desired field and look at the educational requirements for a good number of different jobs. Try going on websites of different universities and looking at their grad school admissions requirements. Make phone calls to those schools. So there. That is my two cents.

If you are already in a field or aiming towards one as you are working full-time this will be for you. Obviously, many are going to argue to not do it because it is not regionally accredited. I must say none of my employers were concerned or questioned me regarding my degree. You will thrive if you are serious and positive. You must, however, understand that you have to study. I am a current student and I am currently waiting for my professor, to grade my last few assignments so I can register for graduation. This has definitely been a waiting process getting this done. I never had this issue until the classes she is grading. The College gives a 10 day waiting period before contacting the professors. Why?!? This is absurd length of time especially when you have already met the deadline requirements and just waiting for grades to come back. Student's that are trying to... Read More make Graduation registration should be put first. The 10 day waiting period is ridiculous and holds the students back. The pro's are I definitely would recommend Ashworth college to friend and family because the work is understandable, it's on your time and tuition is affordable. Con's are 10 day wait to get grades back, a long wait to get ticket/emails answered and staff can be more understanding, patient and professional.

I have read some pretty bad reviews on here and I feel that people are entirely misinformed about nationally(NA) and regionally accredited(RA) schools and transferring credits. Colleges/University's do not have a "one size fits all" rule that applies to every single person. It is a "general" saying that NA credits won't transfer to RA schools, this is not a lie, however, it is entirely based on a case by case basis. If you have a NA degree you are not excempt from going to a RA college and getting credits transferred. Yes, you are going to find that some RA schools will not accept NA degrees, but there are a lot that will. For instance, Capella's masters degree requirements are that you have a bachelors "from an accredited school whose accrediting agency is recognized by the Department of Education". NA is recognized by th Dept of Education. It really just depends on your case, what you already have your degree in, and what you are trying to pursue at their college. It also helps to write an essay to the college along with your application that specifies what you learned at your previous school and why you should be considered for enrollment if you have NA credits you want transferred to a RA school. And make sure you are kissing major butt with your admissions rep because it is ultimately up to them if you are accepted and word of mouth goes along way when they credit evaluation team is evaluating your credits. Ashworth college is a great school and there are plenty of colleges that will accept your degree/credits from them.

I would recommend to everyone to enroll with Ashworth. I discovered that prestigious college such as SUNY ESC was very bad college for me and Ashworth much better, so I transfererd my credits to Ashworth. Teleconferencing, tutoring, assistance, were very educative and everything is very good organized. In addition, I had the experience with Penn Foster as well and it's not better than Ashworth. Penn has very strict English instructors, and SUNY is the opposite- you pass courses very easily and therefore... Read More you're not learning. They only want your money! On the other hand, Penn Foster, wants your money, poor tutoring, and bad grading in order that you won't get hired! They can't put all graduates to work, so the lie has to continue. Ashworth College is great! I had no problem when looking for a jobs and it actually help me, I had a job interview actually say that before I was hired. I learned a lot about running my businesses and I am still very successful in my businesses and a lot of it is due to me learning a broader understanding of business that was from Ashworth College. The courses are ridiculously hard due in part that the content does not make any damn sense. From every logical reasoning level. What you think could never be the answer actually is. If you fail something you really are not properly informed you will sit wondering why your cousre did not change when it was something in the wings you did not know you have to repeat. They send you to collections in a heartbeat and exaggerate the prices if you open one course and is unfinished you owe for the whole... If you chose a degree program then change your mind you must pay $50.00 and worst if you want to change from a bachelors to an associates that is not allowed and they don't advise you up front. It is exciting to go ahead though on your own time and do the classwork from anywhere. I really like the school except for those areas of opportunities i mentioned. During my initial conversation with the woman at Ashworth Collage should have been a red flag. I was excited about going back to school, and recently widowed with an eleven-year old son, left me vulnerable and naive. She seemed skillfully trained in persuasion, dodging questions, and stretching the truth. 1. She assured me the credits I earned from a community college would transfer, never happened. 2. She told me I could opt out of Ashworth if I did not like it, and only pay for courses completed. Again, I came to find out this is not true. 4. I was told I could cancel classes within five days and get a full refund; however, there is nothing to really cancel after just five days, you never receive books, start classes, nothing, how is this helpful? 6. She failed to tell me that you never receive your degree until you have paid every penny owed to the collage. It never crossed my mind since everyone gets their degree then pays off their education loans. According to the wonderful payment plan she set me up with, I would get my bachelor’s degree in ten years! How is this a good thing? Remember, I had nothing to read, no school rules, nothing, just this woman’s word to go on. I did quickly check out their website, but opted to call and get the full details. I began my course work at Ashworth College, and quickly found out why the books were included in the tuition because there was none. I went through my first course, second, third, fourth, still no books, just lecture notes. Finally, I hit my fifth course and was elated to see I was finally going to get a real book to study. Well, I waited and waited, the book was on backorder, three weeks later still waiting. I call them and get nowhere, “it will be shipped as soon as we get it.” This college has no instructors. You read lecture notes, from who knows whom, do the work, and several different people grade the work for the same course, not one instructor. Again, extremely cheap tuition because you never have an instructor. I could have learned just as much doing free google searches. Absolutely no communication. Not once did I get a call to see how I was doing, never got anything in the mail welcoming me as a student, never an email checking my progress. There was nothing! I would not have known I was even a student at this college if I did not see courses were open. I had enough. This was not a collage, I was not learning much and it was unorganized. I began looking for a reputable good college or university to attend. I checked out several, and to my dismay, they nearly laughed when I asked if I could use my credits earned thus far from Ashworth. Credits were useless; I wasted my time and my money. To add salt to injury, when I called Ashworth to cancel my attendance, they informed me I would have to pay for the entire semester, even the courses I did not take yet, and that I owned the entire balance, which was 1,200, TODAY. She went on to tell me that if I did not pay it today, I had five days to pay, and if I did not pay in that time, they would turn it into a collection agency. I was shocked. I feel scammed and stupid. Worthless credits, wasted money I do not have, and wasted time. I can blame myself for not being more careful, but as I said, I had no paper work to look over. I never received documents from this school; there was nothing to go on except what this woman told me on the phone. I am guilty of being trustworthy, and stupid. PLEASE reconsider if you are thinking of attending this school. You really do get what you pay for.
