The PTA program at Bay State was extremely challenging but worth every second of stress. Throughout my clinicals and current work I have heard from many physical therapy professionals that Bay State students are the best prepared and most sought after. It is amazing how much someone can learn in two years and I owe my teachers and instructors a big thank you for giving me the tools to become successful in my chosen career. I believe that this PTA program is the best in the state. If you decide this is what you want then you should definitely chose this program but be prepared to work incredibly hard. If you are lucky not only will you come out with a great career but also with life long friends that struggled and laughed with you the whole way through. Trust me it's all worth it in the end!!
I graduated in May of 2015 from the PTA program. I have seen comments that "they" set you up to fail. Its actually quite the opposite. The program is challenging, as any program preparing you for a career in the medical field should be. The professors are very accessible and are very knowledgeable. They will suggest peer mentors for the student that may be struggling as well as offer their own help. Time spent outside the classroom to practice lab skills with classmates is a must. I found that the students that struggled underestimated the program demands and generally did not put the necessary time in needed to succeed. I have been employed since passing my licensing exam and our staff is impressed at how prepared I was as a first year graduate. Many of my classmates received similar comments, with many clinical locations commenting on how BSC students are much better qualified than students from competing local programs. I recommend the PTA program at Bay State College without reservation.
Going into the PTA program I was extremely excited. After my experience I just has at bay state in the PTA program I would never recommend that program to anyone. The students are set up to fail from the moment they step foot in the classroom with there rules and regulations. A student spends thousands and thousands of dollars to enter the program but they don't care they look for any reason to dismiss you from the program with no care that you put a lot of time and money into it all. The professors could care less about you. Most of them mislead you with information and then test you on what should have been the correct information but if you try to approach them about it they give you no respect and then end up writing you up for "challenging there authority". They treat you like children but preach that they want us to act like adults. This program was truly a disappointment and waste of time.
Bay State College is the worst college I have ever attended. The PTA program is designed with policy's to fail students out of the program, not retain them. The practical tests of the program are graded subjectively not objectively. The college says that they care about your success but their actions say otherwise. The PTA program can not maintain the clinical education sites that they have and accepts more students into the program then it has the space or equipment to properly teach. The professors are some of the most un-humbled and unprofessional instructors I have ever dealt with. If I knew what I know now I would of never went. I would never recommend this program to or school to anyone.
As a current student, thankfully getting the hell out of here, I can say Bay State is the furthest thing from a succeeding college. If you were to go to this college I suggest only health related students to apply and DO NOT live on campus. Although I do have a few favorite professors, a majority don't know how the hell to teach a class. This campus is ran by 20 year olds that are beyond inexperienced in how to run a college there has been a new director in every department EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Aside from classroom life, on campus living has been a nightmare since my freshman year. They now only have 3 dorm buildings, since they lost a building to Berkeley. If you live on campus be prepared to feel like your being baby sat. The school is so damn small everyone knows everyone and everything about one another. You can't have any guests passed midnight even if they live on campus in another building. You must fill out an over night request guest form 48 hours before you want those people to come and can only sleep over for 2 consecutive nights. The RAs have nothing better to do but report you for every little thing they believe is wrong, and then you'll have to pay a fine. This school looks for every possible way to take money from you. As for the food, you will be eating worse than what your high school had to offer. Nothing is ever fully cooked or properly set up so who actually knows what your putting into your stomach. It consists of two small dining rooms and have specific hours and closes at 7 PM, which means if you work and come home late you'll be starving until the next day or spending money on take-out. Me and my group of friends cannot wait to get off this campus and not have to deal anymore of their crap. Me and several current students would NEVER recommend this college to anyone. I don't even believe for this to be a college.
The classes are a complete joke as well as the professors. Many students here are dull and cannot get accepted to other colleges. The professors clearly can't get another source of income so they "teach" at Bay State college. The stuff that i have "learned" so far this year I recall learning when I was in 8th grade. The only decent class here is the music management class.
The dorms are pathetic, small, no elevators, printer in the lounge doesn't work, the wifi sucks, your not allowed to have microwaves and oh wait....UNLIKE MOST SCHOOLS you have to alert the dead beat resident director 24 hrs in advance of having a guest sleepover. You can't smoke outside the building or you will be violated, you can't have more than 2 guests signed in or you will be violated, you can't have a guest after 12 or you will be violated. If your loud during "quiet hours" you will be violated. If your 15 year old sister needs a place to sleep and is stuck in boston and you have her stay there without letting the RA know in advance you will be violated.
You are only allowed 3 absences in each class even if you do all your work/get good grades so if your sick and you miss class after 3 absences your grade gets lowered. Don't expect to receive your mail in a remotely timely fashion....or sometimes at all. The resident director is too self-absorbed to distribute the mail until it has piled up in her tiny ass office and sits there for days. The whack ass cafeteria food gets your terribly sick and the people serving you are very unpleasant.
The cafe is segregated most of the time and people are unfriendly. This school consists of hoodrats, emo punk kids and preppy cliques. Deciding to attend this "college" is the same as taking that $30,000 + dollars and putting it in a paper shredder. SAVE YOUR TIME & MONEY PLEASE. This school is a joke run by 25 year olds looking to get some money.
