Bellevue University

I am currently in the Master's program, slated to graduate in June. So far, the classes have been challenging and geared towards real-world application. In a Master's class, you won't necessarily be 'taught', the professors will push you to seek your own knowledge and apply it to the situation at hand. This is a higher level of learning. I attended this university and I am very appreciative of my education. My previous credits transferred in nicely. As far as my classes go, it was a requirement of my degree to be currently working in healthcare. In my particular degree, they were able to give me topics in each of my classes that I had to relate to my particular experiences in my job. I have yet to find a job yet, concerning management is more geared towards having an education AND experience, but I am optimistic I have one of the necessary job requirements completed. I do agree with the other students that the financial aid process is a nightmare. After having attended UNL and UNO previous to this, I recognize how terrible Bellevue's financial aid processes are. They are not efficient and often make mistakes in calculating funding, as well as having a requirement of way more paperwork than is necessary. This is major area they are needing to work on. I also agree that the advisers have a large turnover rate. In my personal experience, I went through 4 counselors in a year and a half. This makes it very difficult to know who to turn to when you have an issue or questions concerning your degree. Overall, I would highly recommend Bellevue University based solely on the classroom work. Issues surrounding their financial aid and counselor's make it more difficult to fully love Bellevue but I know I would go back for my Masters in a heartbeat.

After attending Bellevue University for four years, I find that my educational experience was top notch! For an online course of study, I felt that each and every professor engaged appropriately with not only the class as a whole, but with me, on an academic, professional, and personal level. I felt "challenged" in most, if not all of my course track. To this day, I have a closet full of research articles, class assignments, research papers, etc., which I printed out along the way. The course material was rigorous and challenging, which helped me to attain the knowledge and skills necessary to qualify for a higher level career. I am currently enjoying the fruits of my degree, which has allowed me to teach undergraduate students at a local university, as well as lead in many student causes such as student persistence, faculty tutoring, and student assessments.

I'm not sure what to make of the negative comments here since my experience was excellent. At the time I enrolled in Bellevue I had recently retired from law enforcement due to an on the job injury after 17 years of service. At age 40, I only had an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and was academically unprepared to enter the corporate world. I was very very nervous and doubted that I had what it took to complete the program. It wasn't easy, but determination and discipline got me to graduation. Fast forward to today and I'm working in a major corporation in charge of the Investigations team and doing very well. I definitely believe that earning my Bachelors was one of the keys to my success. Now, 7 years after earning my Bachelors from Bellevue, I'm preparing to work on my Masters degree. I have the same doubts and nerves I had when I started my undergraduate program, but I know I can do it and I'm confident it will better me in the end.

In looking at some of the reviews, please use some discernment before making any judgments on this school. 1. Online learning is different from traditional education. You get out what you put into it. 2. Yes, people can steal work. No different than any other group setting, it's on if you don't advocate for yourself for what is right. 3. As an active duty military member and a single mom of 3 going back to school was hard. Bellevue University's online program made achieving my bachelors degree possible. With their flexible classes and semesters I was able to obtain a quality education on my own time. The professors were knowledgeable and helpful when you needed assistance. The financial aid office was helpful with using military tuition assistance and Stafford loans to cover what military tuition assistance didn't. I'm looking forward... I completed my Bachelor's degree with Bellevue and felt that the in class version was beneficial to me. I attended the online course for my Master's and felt it was extremely lacking. There is absolutely no instruction, peers are allowed to steal others work with no consequences (no matter how frequently this is reported), and grading is not based on the actual work being done. I have documented "discussions" where the "professor" is indicating that she is confused by the assignment or the direction... Read More that she is supposed to be giving us. If the "professor" doesn't understand, how are we supposed to know? When concerns are taken to a higher level, there is no concern expressed and you are simply referred back to the "professor" causing the issue. I will never attend classes here in the future, and I will not recommend this "University" to anyone that I know. I do disagree with the reviews indicating that these degrees are viewed as high school diplomas, and that anyone can get them. I have seen several co-workers drop courses or fail courses due to the difficulty, however I will agree that the scenarios and teaching presented does NOT match what is happening in real life. Academic counseling, enrollment services, and financial aid services are equally bad. Phone calls and emails are not returned or questions do not seem to be understood. Perhaps the staff needs to attend some degree courses as well. Too bad I wasted another year and a half of my life and money on this.

I'm very concerned that my degree from this school is not viewed by employers as one that matters. I've been told that a degree from here is like a high school diploma... everyone can get one. :( My experience is that the school has a ton of turn over. Faculty and advisors just seem to leave the University all the time. No one stays. This is weird and my friends say this isn't normal. There is something going on with this school that isn't right. They covered all of the topics I needed to study and did so in a genuine fashion. I use all that I have learned at Bellevue in my career and I am greatly appreciative of the thoughtfulness Bellevue uses in their degree programs. I would recommend this university to any adult student who is serious about earning their degree with an online program. The instruction was excellent and they created an environment where you could engage with your fellow students as well even though you are online. Online Degree Program (never took classes in person) Instructors have you teach yourself by reading your text book. You have "discussions" with your peers via forums each week. They are not helpful and force classmates to come up with "substantial " comments regarding your post. It's awkward because once a person addresses the topic, there's usually very little left to say. The online format is not user friendly. The interface is like using something from the 90's. You only "learn" what you retain... I'm in the process of collecting complaints specific to Bellevue University located in Bellevue, Nebraska. Complaints specific to bait and switch and or predatory practices. I enrolled to Bellevue University only because I wanted to get my Bachelor Degree as quick as possible. Before the enrollment my advisor sent me an unofficial evaluation which required me to complete 49 credits to get my degree. And she promised me that my official evaluation was not going to be any different than the one she sent me. After a month of my enrollment my advisor asked me to chek my official evaluation on the schools website. My 49 credits was now 78 credits plus i was required to take... I dropped my enrollment after taking my first class and now i got excessive amount of charges on my Federal loans. Communication is almost non existent at this school. You are assigned an advisor who will likely not return your calls or emails. The "professors" have very little to no real life experience and therefore you spend your time reading text, participating in half hearted "discussions" which are actually responses to another student's post in a forum. She was extremely unorganized and unknowledgeable. Her grading system was all over the place and many of my classmates (and myself) sent her emails multiple times a week pointing out inconsistencies and issues. Had I not been so close to achieving my degree I would have left much earlier. My advice is to avoid Bellevue and find another quality institution.

I left, and I got a bill in the mail for $411.00!! for my student loans coming back unpaid for the semester, I called Bellevue and they told me its what I owe for skipping out half way through the semester!
