"I want to be absolutely clear with this review that I believe Brandman University and their financial aid practices is a complete scam and illegal. Enrolling with Brandman University was the easiest part of my experience. I spoke to a counselor who helped me choose the right courses and filled out my financial aid which I was told was approved. I began attending a full work load and up until this point everything seemed great. All of this changed when I locked out of my courses without any warning. I called One Stop to determine what was going on and they said my financial aid had not been approved yet. To me this didn't make sense because why would a school allow a student to enroll in courses if their aid was not officially approved? Either way they assured me it would be temporary and I would be able to continue my coursework. I remained not only locked out of my courses but was unable to withdraw from them, earning the F grade in all of the courses. The financial aid department never contacted me and never responded with anything other than the initial response when I would contact them. Now nearly three years later, Brandman is saying I owe them over $7,000 and are threatening to take me to the State Franchise Tax Board if I do not pay in full by November 29th, 2016. After being contacted by one of their staff members I have been told that their "investigation" found that I am liable to pay for the courses. The staff member who I have been in contact with even claims that it is not in their "standard practice" to lock students out of classes for financial aid not being approved. Well it happened to me and after asking for login records, the contact has gone silent. This entire situation makes zero sense and to reiterate what I said above. I was never allowed to finish my courses or withdraw from them since I was locked out. Because I was unable to withdraw I earned fail grades in all of the courses, this then canceled my financial aid that still had not been fully processed. Brandman allowed me to enroll in courses and told me my aid was approved even though it was not and that is what led to my situation, their lack of professionalism and a horrible financial aid department. I assumed since I was unable to take my courses and withdraw from them that this was done automatically. I ended my brief experience with Brandman and moved on. To my shock I began receiving calls from a collection company in regards to this matter. Not once did Brandman reach out to me via phone or direct mail to discuss this matter, they simply sent it to collections or apparently sent important things to my school email? As of now Brandman stands by their threat to report me to the State Franchise Tax Board and are being completely unreasonable. This is essentially a request for me to pay for a service that I never received. Brandman is stating that the amount they are requesting by paid in full by the end of this month, completely unreasonable. For these reasons I am now filing a report with the BBB, CA Attorney Generals Office and am in contact with several law firms for legal counsel. After reading the numerous reviews on here, it appears my situation with Brandman University and their financial aid practices is not uncommon. I encourage anyone that reads this and has a similar situation to please reach out to me as I intend to file a class action lawsuit should Brandman University continue with the course of action they have chosen.
