Capella stinks! It’s was fine until they issued a refund to me and then backdated the charge. Financial aid will screw you over. Don’t trust it! They tried to explain to me that this was standard procedure and “mistakes happen.” However, this mistake on their part has cost me nearly $2000.

I genuinely enjoyed my time at Capella University. I am graduating with my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I felt this program was extremely beneficial. Some professors were better than other, but for the most part, professors genuinely wanted you to do well in their course. I have heard of some students having difficulty with their academic advisors, but I was fortunate to have a great advisor. I applied to be a Capella Ambassador and I enjoyed Capella offered this for current students.... Read More

I chose Capella because my state's board for counseling licensure stated that the only online program degree they would accept was from Capella, which was the only CACREP online program at the time. I appreciated being able to attend part time while raising my kids and mostly being able to work on classes when it fit my schedule. I quickly realized that the program was not for people who needed someone to walk them through each step or required extra tutoring. This was a good fit for me because I... Read More

Please find another university. I graduated with a Master's in General Mental Health Counseling and felt that Capella University really let me down. Really expensive (in the $80,000 range - which will take a very long time to pay off) and I felt like I have learned more myself just on my own motivation to be successful in the profession than I ever did with the classes they offered. Basically Capella's formula is to read articles, write discussions, and then write 2-3 papers throughout the 10 units... Read More

PLEASE, do your research. This school is at most a degree factory. Sub par education & very little academic support. If you’re going here “just so you can say you have a Master’s”, look elsewhere & get a degree from a college that has a strong reputation & is morally & ethically accountable. A Capella degree has turned away many clients & cost me the opportunity to even make a first impression with local practices. Learn from my mistake. I’m now pursuing my PhD with a highly regarded university not... Read More

The degree itself is well designed, however the teaching post 2017 is mediocre with many of the quality teachers having left.Multiple unethical practices, no mental health assessment on students with students with mental health issues sometimes becoming unwell on the only face to face contact that students have with instructors and peers. Students are expected to have $1000 plus set aside for residencies that in my experience are poorly conducted with instructors coming out of recovery on some occassions... Read More

I absolutely love my experience at Capella University. The staff have been wonderful to work with and truly do want the best for their students. When issues have sprung up in my life, the professors at Capella have been so understanding and have worked with me on due dates so I could get my personal life straightened up. The staff are also so quick to respond to e-mails and help with questions that one may have. Lastly, I am so glad that I feel like I am actually learning. The curriculum is hard,... Read More

Capella Clinical Mental Health Counseling is an excellent program but because of the intricate nature of counseling supportive and protective factors should be in place. Faculty advisors are sometimes out of state, the administrative communication to students about changes in Instructors is poor. The worst thing is the tech support which seems to have dipped in standard since 2017. Firstly the customer service is horrible, either waiting for over 15 minutes to get the call responded to, and customer... Read More

I'm a bit confused about the negative reviews. I'm on my second term at Capella and I have had zero issues thus far. My advisors have been great, my professors are clearly knowledgeable, and the course content is very detailed. Not only that, but I am getting a LOT of information and preparation for my future career, which is just the cherry on top. I have also not had any issues with my financial aid. I will leave another review after I graduate, but as of right now, it has been a breeze.

Horrible school. I was kicked out of classes due to their websites lack of functionality. After 5 calls to tech support, the issue was not resolved, and I am no longer admitted to my class this semester. No one would work with me to resolve the issue. The people are unprofessional across the board.

I have never experienced such negligence from another university. I know reviews can always be hit or miss, but I highly suggest not attending this school; especially if you require financial aid to pay for your tuition. I also want to note that the counseling program is very generic. Everything is set up by the school so that each student is following the same path per the requirements of CACREP. I felt like I was not being challenged and it has turned me off completely from counseling. I transferred... Read More

Capella University has it all. Highly skilled professors, academic advisors, online technology and provides an online library with endless peer reviews scholarly journals, reports and publications. Peer collaboration is enough to give one the classroom feel without the time constraints of traveling miles to meet at inflexible times. Support is available all throughout the learning experience and while it is a lot of hard work, I wouldnt trade this experience for any other college.

I enjoyed my time with Capella University from the years 2012-2018. I obtained my bachelor degree in psychology and then entered into their master program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I was introduced to this field after my brother lived with me for six months. He had to attend an alternative school after being discharged from a psychiatric hospital. I feel in love with the field psychology and mental health disorders. Individuals who attend Capella have to work hard because the program... Read More

I love Capella and often recommend it because it didn't require me to take time away from things such as work and getting married like my undergraduate degree did. I was actually able to start gaining experience in the field WHILE working on my degree! It also allowed me to work so I didn't have to choose between work and school. It was flexible enough that I could easily work my schedule and home life around what I needed and still complete my work! I thought it was very easy to use and that you... Read More

Overall Capella University has been an excellent school. The faculty, advising team, and fellow students are amazing people with diverse experiences and backgrounds. It is a challenging curriculum that has prepared me well for the real world of counseling. My absolute favorite experience in this program are the Residencies. During Residency you have the opportunity to work with amazing people and really learn from one another. The bond you form is lifelong! I would recommend Capella University!

I'm enjoying Capella. You get out of it what you put into it. I've had some great instructors and I've had some that were basically ghosts who didn't do anything. You review your professors every term. The good professors get a good review, the bad ones get a bad review. I have not heard great things about flex path, but I am taking two classes per term and so far have a 4.0 GPA and am almost half way done with my program. I probably invest 5 hours per week into my school on a normal week, which... Read More

After attending UCLA for undergrad and another D1 university for grad school, I have been highly disappointed in Capella. From Prof. Lange - at my first residency being intoxicated and cussing in public to financial aid mixing up my account causing huge problems, I can honestly tell you to choose ANY other school. Shoddy program at best! 100%'s given out like candy on assignments to make the students enroll in their honor society - a complete scam of a university! Do NOT waste your time and money!!!... My experience with Capella has been excellent. Faculty (counselors, librarians, instructors, etc.) are friendly, helpful, and easily accessible. The interface is easy to use and the university has a prolific database filled with resources. If you need to brush up on writing skills, research skills, typing- it's available. To make the most of your investment, have a plan. DO NOT rely on others and point the finger at the school and faculty for your struggles. They are accredited and a little pricey... Read More
