The program at Capella prepared me in so many ways for my transition into the school counseling workforce. Each class was well formatted, on point with current topics/issues, the faculty was knowledgeable and eager to assist students, the library was easy to navigate, and the course room fostered student engagement and academic growth. I highly recommend the School Counseling degree through Capella University.
I was enrolled in the flex path program from 2016-2018, I had very little guidance. Also, whenever I reached out to the staff members I was met with condescending attitudes. As though I was a bother, I believe because I am a working professional the instructors assumed that I should know the material. Which was an insane notion. Honestly, what got me through the program was self motivation. This is not a program for students of diversity, which is the population the program is geared towards.
This was the first time that I had on-line courses. I am a young 70 years of age and found the program and instructors to be very well versed in their field. I enjoyed the courses and have learned a lot. I am putting on hold the last of my courses only due to school loans are more than I feel comfortable with. I hope to conclude my degree in the near future.
I did NOT graduate. With a family and too high of income at the time I cannot get any more financial aid. I also have applied for jobs in my field, but say I have no experience or am NOT qualified. I had 30 credits left and trying to work, and do school was impossible since all they want is money. They changed my program 5 times in the 5.5 years I went there part and full time, and even no time and took off because of financial aid. I'll look to get my credits transferred to another college to finish.
Needed to finish my undergrad and wouldnt have been admitted to traditional programs due to poor academics from the inital college experience. Employer also offered discounts for Capella so applied and was accepted. For those that are in the same situation and need a BA/BS, schools like Capella are the only viable option even if they arent seen as real schools. Courses are what you make of them. For someone who enjoys writing, they were very easy. Not sure if it was just my instructors but grading seemed less than critical. In courses where we shared assignments, I was a bit aghast by how poorly written assignments were yet assumed they were graded well regardless. Had one extremely poor instructor and luckily dropped their course. For the most part their instructors seem to be engaged with teaching but like everything, there can be a bad apple in the bunch. The only real negative I can think of is that the school does not take plagiarism seriously. Small infractions are not seen as an issue so someone plagiarizing a paragraph from another students paper isnt going to turn heads.
First and foremost I should have listened to an associate of a previous student. I was notified by a 3rd party collection agency that I had an outstanding balance due to the University nearly a year later. I NEVER received notice by the University. I completed the course taken, in good standing. And before completion, called about balances that I could possibly have after looking online to get an understanding of the financial breakdown. At the time I only saw dispersements and no balances after dispersements. I called to confirm was that correct and was told it was with a sense of uncertainty. All answers received from any person I spoke with, were give in a language of uncertainty or they gave you the run around, saying they will follow up and never would. It was their way of sweeping it under rug and hoping you wouldn't call back. Fast forward, I just recently a collection letter a couple of weeks ago, which my attendance there a year ago. I called right after receipt asking to have it pulled from collections due to not being properly notified of it and I was told NO we called you and emailed your university email (which was inactive for me after completion of the course). Therefore, I would not have received the email. I counter explained that they had 3 ways of reaching me and if 2 of 3 wasn't getting a response the next is postal mail. Their only argument was, since they are an online university they primarily communicate online. Well if that's the case why did you go as far as, to call? They should have taken it a step further and sent a mail notification as well. Why am I upset because, they have put a stain on my outstanding credit history. And I tried to correct it with them with complete honesty and was blown off. And apparently this is common because, as I stated in the beginning I should have listened, what happened to me is exactly what happened to that person. However, I was trying to remain hopeful and optimistic.
This school is a poor choice. The instructors do NOT teach. You ask questions and they say read the syllabus or the book. They do not give you clear directions. And when you have an issue you get bounced around and no one ever helps you find any resolution. Sooo dissatisfied. This experience has cost me a lot of money (over 150k and still going) and even more anxiety and stress.
I had a wonderful time in the FlexPath program. After struggling for many years I was finally able to complete my BS. And, with the flexibility of FlexPath I completed 57 credits in three months. The instructors, coach, tutors, and enrollment counselor were all extremely helpful and responsive. In March of 2018 I walked in my commencement (a first for me because I opted to get a GED when I was younger). I'm so happy with this school and FlexPath that I'm now enrolled to start in the MBA program.
This is the worst school on the surface of the planet. All they aim for is get you to cough out your money and once that get the money, they become your Lord. Whatever they tell you you have no recourse. They have no structure to see or track customer service. Their after class survey is a sham. This is a school that has no structure for people to assist you. Horrible customer service over and over again. No one should attend this school. Total waste of money & Time. Research schools before enrolling. Simply googling will give you information on peoples experience especially with CAPELLA UNIVERSITY. Beware of Crooks.
I went through their flex path because of my work schedule and I had the worst experience trying to get feedback from the instructor and TA. The TA was out for a few days so I reached out to the instructor only to be directed to the TA. Being pressed for time this was a major inconvenience that definately played a role in my decision to never go through capella
