Degree: Social Work
Graduation Year: 2021

I have been in the MSW program since July 2016. I am taking one class at a time because I have a full time job and a family that keeps me busy. If I chose to take a 2nd class, it would limit my time with my family and I'm not willing to make that happen. I love spending time with my family and would like them to understand that school is important, but so is family. We all continue to make sacrifices, but it is with the understanding that mom is going to get a better job and be able to help more people. Capella provides me with opportunities to learn and grow within my profession, which is exactly what I need. I continue to find that each class gives me invaluable insight into my current job in case management. I am able to talk with my clients on a deeper level and gain insight into what they are dealing with and how I can help them. I highly recommend this program to others seeking an MSW as it provides not only online education, but real world value. Another great aspect is the residencies. I've completed one and the experience was amazing. I learned so much in that one week, it was intense, but so worth it! Good luck to you in your endeavors and I hope that you choose Capella!

Degree: Information Technology
Graduation Year: 2015

I started a PhD at Capella because I wanted to expand my career as a software architect/development lead to include research roles in related IT areas. A crucial conversation with the School of Business & IT department chair strongly influenced my decision to pursue my PhD at Capella, rather than elsewhere. It took me almost seven years to finish while I worked full time. The process included two years of coursework, one year to settle on a research topical area, about a year to formalize propose research in the topical area, two years to conduct the research, one year to write the dissertation and defend the research, and then, finally, graduate. The process was a journey unlike any I had previously undertaking in my undergraduate or graduate program. You should want (expect) to expand your intellectual horizons, based on my experience. I would note that I was aged 55 when I graduated, having wanted to finish my PhD for over 20 years. I would say than many people could achieve a PhD, but they must be entirely self-motivated to do so. This was the single biggest success factor for me: I simply wanted to finish, no matter what. Therefore, my best advice is if you really like the research perspective (i.e., creating knowledge) and desire to conduct research professionally (publishing created knowledge), including working in academia in later life, then Capella is a excellent opportunity to make that happen. Some things that improved in career following (during) my PhD program include: better writing habits, including clearly addressing audiences; exposure in conferences/colloquia; opportunities to write in professional journals; developing contacts with other PhDs publishing in professional journals; and improved research efficiencies and information organization habits.

Degree: Psychology, General
Graduation Year: 2018

The Flexpath program was perfect for me. I was able to work at my own pace and complete the degree in less time than with a traditional program. There was always a way to contact someone for help or clarification on an assessment. The feedback and comments left by the professors where helpful and added to my content knowledge.

Degree: Nursing
Graduation Year: 2018

My experience with Capella has been wonderful. I have found the professors to be responsive and engaged, and the courses to be challenging. I have not experienced any problems but any time I had to call with a question or speak with my advisor I found my questions were answered quickly and professionally.

Degree: Industrial and Organizational Psychology
Graduation Year: 2014

One of the best decisions I have made! After much research and evaluation of institutions which were willing to adjust to my busy schedule, but also with knowledgeable professors as well. Capella has proven to be the institution I have validated was an accurate choice. After completing my doctorate degree I felt that my professional career as a Business Coach has exponentially grown (intellectually and financially) and I have acquired a level of competency to service well organizations and C-level leaders. Thank you Capella.

Degree: Accounting
Graduation Year: 2017

I love this school and how they teach at this school. I earned my bachelor's degree in accounting and I was able to get an accounting job while attending this school. I had a lot of great professors who would set up a time for me to call them when I needed help with an assignment. Capella University is accredited by acbsp which in the state of Illinois is a requirement to be able to sit for the CPA exam but you have to have some master degree classes taken before you can sit for it. I have had great experience with their traditional learning. I'm not a fan of their flex-path program but that's because I didn't feel like the instructors were that involved or helpful. I do recommend this school I just don't recommend the flex-path plus AICPA doesn't recognize competency based classes anymore so if you want to sit for the CPA exam take their traditional classes.

Degree: Nursing
Graduation Year: 2018

DO NOT go anywhere near this school. I earned a 3.8 GPA in my ADN program and 4.0 in my BSN program. I also have additional degrees outside of nursing. I evened earned a 4.0 throughout three years of coursework at Capella. However, I will never graduate as I was administratively withdrawn from the program. The regular courses of the program are actually quite good and challenging. The doctoral project of their program is poorly developed and the professors do not have the knowledge needed to actually teach how to do a project. The school had no problem reenrolling me each semester until I started calling academic advising looking for help to move my project along. I asked for a new professor when the professor submitted my project proposal to the school telling me it was perfect and would easily be approved only to have the school tell me to start over. The next professor was even worse than the first. She actually responded to one of my questions with "I don't understand what you mean." This, of course, leaves me to continue to figure everything out on my own. I now have a useless 4.0 GPA, membership in an academic honor society, $50,000 in debt, and no chance for a degree. PLEASE do not waste your time. Google the lawsuit information first.

Degree: Mental Health Counseling/Counselor
Graduation Year: 2020

My journey began attending another online University that had no respect for me as an individual after suffering a severe shoulder injury. I never had any family or academic support which, lead me to Capella University. The first day I began I have had nothing but support and worked really hard towards my academics which, earned to be on the Presidents List, invitation to be a Chi-Sigma Iota as well as becoming an Ambassador. My experience has been so supportive as well as positive throughout my journey with Capella. The instructors are awesome as well as supportive providing guidance even through are most challenging times of our lives. Now, that I only have a one quarter left I am encourage to pursue my PhD in clinical counseling with Capella University with a goal to develop an Ambassador program that represents Capella University.

Degree: Business Administration
Graduation Year: 2005

I had wanted my MBA for a long time. I started it twice; however, being on call 24/7 just did not allow me to reliably attend a Brick and Mortar school. Only when I taught classes was I able to do the B&M and then I still got interrupted. I thoroughly enjoyed my classes and the interaction with other students. Most of my instructors were very good I had a couple that were not so I transferred out or dropped the class and rescheduled. I wanted my doctorate and looked around of a different school as I thought that would be better. However, I came back to Capella as I did not find a school with the courses available that I wanted. Capella worked with me to adjust the courses I wanted. After taking all required courses except the Comp and Dissertation, I switched to an MS due to the cost and the loss of educational assistance when I changed jobs. My online experience was much better than B&M especially since there were a lot of international students with much different perspectives on the subjects. I would go back for another degree if I could afford it just because I enjoyed the learning, interaction with others and the challenge.
