"Anyone who is considering going to Careerpoint is making a huge mistake. Do not waste your time going to this school. It's a waste of money and education. The teachers are a joke. I'm lucky I passed but I learned absolutely nothing. I've been In the medical field to long and nothing I learned there was useful. Teachers would read straight from the book, and nothing was fully explained. Clinicals were only nursing assistant level training. We had over 3 DON's with in the year I was there. And nobody was ever in charge. Teachers are very manipulative. This school goes through teachers monthly. There is no structure or organization. I made the mistake of going through this program. There are to many programs here in San Antonio. Go to any other nursing school."

"I was in Cohort 27. Yes, there were some problems. All schools have problems. i studied my butt off everyday and graduated with a 3.83 GPA. I PASSED my NCLEX on the first try (with only 75 questions). I was immediately hired at a skilled nursing facility with a 5K sign on bonus and a generous starting pay. I am a Charge Nurse and been complimented many times about my nursing skills. I even have co workers who did the LVN program at our local university who say I know more than they learned at Schreiner in Kerrville. We did NOT ever lack clinical sites to go to. My diploma has allowed me to buy a new car, new furniture, and now have 3 credit cards thanks to my improved credit score. I think that is pretty Impressive considering I didn't start working right away due to health issues. I've only been at my job for 18 months. It all depends on how bad you want it, if you are willing to sacrifice ALL YOUR TIME to study.. Staff issues happen everywhere. Stay positive. ATI is stressful. I got my green light and failed my first attempt by 0.01! I got my second attempt the Thursday before pinning and passed. It's not easy. But I am an excellent nurse. Now, I'm going back for the LVN to RN Bridge Program. I loved the teachers and staff. I am able to still work, pay bills, pay student loan, and go back to school....all thanks to Career Point."

"Which school location are they not implementing level 2 required to proceed to the next course? I'm at the San Antonio campus and the new don made it mandatory. Im looking to transfer to Austin campus if its not mandated to progress through the program. My class was originally told eventually before you green light you have to go back and level 2 if you already haven't. Which is fine but now this new guy wants to come in and make changes that aren't in the hand book. It says you'll have 2 level 2 as a graduation requirement not to go to the next term, even if you score a 100 in the class. Which is ridiculous. ATi has a lot in it that we haven't even covered yet. Hes trying to set us up for failure. Im so stressed and made a hue mistake by coming to this school. I should have just went to Galen program for part time 21 months. So please if the program in Austin doesn't have it mandated to level 2 to pass the term and go on to the next please to tell me.I will transfer in a heart beat.. Sincerely a stressed out student"

"The classes and instructors at (with very few exceptions on the instructors) unorganized, the clinical sites... what clinical sites? Our class has been sitting in a classroom for 12 hours on Saturdays doing case studies instead of getting any kind of hands on training at a facility. If you fail a class, not only do you retake that class but all the others in the same term. We have to green light the ATI exam, books should be given to start studying in the second term....we just got them in our 3rd term and have had little time to study for the exam we take in 2 weeks! Everyone is emotionally drained. They promised we'd be given an unlimited times to green light the ati but as of Tuesday (new rules come into play weekly) we will only be given 2 chanced to pass...of not retake the last 6 months of school and pay about another 15k on top of the 30k we are already paying. Most if the time they dont have enough equipment in the simulation lab for everyone to try hands on what it is were doing at the time. My sister has had a huge problem with their financial aid. The last 9 months in this program and her forms were never submitted to financial aid by her representative. We've gone through 5 DON's in the last 9 months, each coming in making big changes that in turn leave is getting the crappie end of everything. I wish I had known how inconsistent this program was before I entered it."

"Very unorganized. Administration doesn't get along. You go through 2 teachers in one semester. Highly unorganized study material. Don't use hardly of the books. Teachers aren't interactive. Highly recommend looking into other programs and this one last."

"Everything is bad, there is no structure what so ever. The instructors are the kind that just read powerpoint slides and refrain from answering questions. You could probably learn more from opening a book and teaching yourself than what any instructor will. Also they lose instructors/ administrators like every other week. It really feels like that place is falling apart"

"I think that it really depends on what you're looking for with this school. I did the LVN program. While I am grateful for it I also wish I would have known some things beforehand. First of all, the credits DO NOT transfer so if you plan to further your education, the classes you took are no good to any other colleges around San Antonio, Texas. So keep that in mind. But no matter where you go you can always do a bridge program, just keep in mind you may have to repeat some classes you already took at CPC. But if you don't plan on furthering your education then of course you're good. Overall it was really tough, nursing school isn't easy no matter where you go. There were good instructors and there were some not so good instructors. Financially I didn't have to worry about it because I'm a VA student. The nice thing about that is I didn't have to pay for my books either, it was covered in my tuition. I passed the nclex on the first try and the career center helped me find a job right away. Albeit it wasn't the best job, but it was a job! Started off at $18/hr which is the best I've ever made. Then with just a few months experience I got a better job. So I'm happy:) but if I could do things differently I would probably just go to a community college and apply to RN school because taking classes over that I've already taken sucks. :/. But it is a good school. I had a good experience. Like I said, just depends on what you're looking for."

Marie,

Thank you for the kinds words Marie and congratulations on becoming an LVN! We agree nursing school is tough, and impress upon every student who sits down to talk about the Nursing profession that the Vocational Nursing program is a rigorous program.

Its great to hear that your are doing well, but would you mind providing us with a little more insight as to why you feel that going to a community college would have been your first choice? If you could send us an email at marketing@careerpointcollege.edu it would be a great help!

Thanks again and good luck!

"Please save yourselves and do it through a 2yr college. Only one or two instructors are great the others not so much. All the office staff have really bad attitude problems especially the one that runs the whole program. She is just awful! Very poorly organized! No jobs consider the graduates from this school as qualified. U will have a hard time finding a job! They help by referring you to jobs that require experience which being a new grad you do not have! So much lacking education wise. And over your head in debt. Honestly...biggest mistake of my life. :("
