"do not go to this school unless you have hundred of thousands of dollars to spend on parking, living, food, and everything else. it is ridiculous. charleston is in no way helpful for students to live. rent is $2,000 a month and i pay $200 a month just to park my car in a sketchy trash parking lot. its ridiculous how is a college student supposed to be able to afford this place unless they have daddies money. ridiculous."

"The professors really get to know you-which furthers your academic experience. With small class sizes, you are not just a number to a professor. Small classes lead to great conversations and debates that make the classes engaging. Many of the professors also have office hours that are very flexible and available. Many of my professors were always available to go over tests or essays to ensure I really knew the material. There are also a lot of events that are free to students that really build community culture."

"The Education department provided me excellent experience to be ready when I first started teaching. The professors were competent and empathetic towards all students. I was able to have a personal relationship with my professors which helped me be better prepared. The department prepared me to get a job right out of college in my field. I was able to be certified to teach two different areas of special education in my state which made me more employable."

"College of Charleston is a strong public university in South Carolina. The university pushes students to engage with the community as well as the world. My degree program of International Business gave me a strong understanding of the various components of the business world. The fact that the school is a liberal arts college allows students to have a wider breath of exposure to different classes and topics. The elective and general education requirements were a complement to my core studies and truly enhanced my worldview. I had the ability to double minor in Latin American Studies and Spanish which gave me a robust understanding of international development between the business and political science courses. The school experience is what you make of it, but if a student takes advantage of the opportunities given, they will be able to have a phenomenal experience."

"My experience at the College of Charleston was absolutely amazing. Academically, the school school of science and mathematics, through which I earned my degree in Biochemistry, was both very rigorous and incredibly helpful in their instruction. Socially and culturally, the college's liberal arts education gave me access to a wide range of topics from psychology and philosophy to music and art. I sincerely feel that studying at the College of Charleston prepared me exceptionally well for my current role as a Neuroscience PhD student at Florida Atlantic University and my goals continued success in neuroscience research."

"College of Charleston is a liberal arts school dating back to 1770. There is a charm in this small town that you would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I visited the campus and was immediately enchanted by the architecture, the laid back attitude, and the quality education available. I learned from incredible professors beneath sprawling live oaks dripping with Spanish moss. I was asked to push myself, to think, to question, to step out of my comfort zone, and look at things a different way. As a member of College of Charleston student government I worked with a school administration that really placed a lot of control and trust in the students, especially when it came to club organizations and events. The administration wanted us, the students, to have major input in the extracurricular activities on campus that help shape the college experience. I transferred to College of Charleston my sophomore year. People would ask me if I was glad I transferred, the response from me was a resounding yes. This school was challenging and engaging in every way, it is everything you could want out of your college experience. I highly recommend this institution."

"The education you receive at the College of Charleston can vary greatly depending on what kind of student you are. While some challenging courses are unavoidable for any given major, many rigorous courses can be substituted for alternative classes or taken with more lenient teachers. However, the quality of education is very high granted that you actually do the work (like any college) asked of you. You will grow as much intellectually through your personal research as you will in class, but the feedback you receive in person will be invaluable. In my personal experience I was required to research and produce dozens of papers on a variety of topics throughout my four years at the college and I feel prepared to use the stylistic and argumentative skills that I developed as a result in the real world. The professors in my major were extremely available and willing to help. I completed multiple independent study courses with teachers who volunteered their free time to help me, and I maintain contact with several of them still. I am very satisfied with the education I received at C of C and I would recommend the school to anyone who is seeking a well rounded, liberal arts-style education."

"The College of Charleston provides a number of masters degree programs. The Masters of Environmental Science degree focuses both on scientific research as well as providing a strong social science background. The class sizes are small which allows for an intimate environment with professors and peers. The faculty make a point to ensure that students are prepared and connected for future careers."

"The college is fantastic, as are the professors. I didn't expect to have so many professors that are so engaged with the students. Plus, most of them have sincere desire to see you excel and graduate in your chosen field. The campus is overwhelmingly female, last I heard it was a ratio of around 9/1. So, for a guy it can be a bit distracting. Just keep your focus, and you should get a lot of help from places you would never expect. I recommend CofC to anyone."

"I learned a lot, but honestly don't feel prepared for this job market. Very few of the skills and knowledge that I learned are not really applicable to positions that are desired in my field. Also, employers are looking not only for a bachelors degree but also PAID previous experience. This is somewhat of a "catch 22" situation, seeing as you can not achieve previous experience without the paper saying you have a degree and without someone hiring you in the first place in order to gain previous experience. Overall I am glad I went to College of Charleston and achieved my bachelors degree, but if I could redo my experience I would go to a technical school first to save on the general education classes there(that are exactly the same as at a 4 year college) and not have to take out loans for a bachelors degree that won't get me a job."

"Beautiful campus, great location. Challenging, timely, and thoughtful coursework, but not overly rigorous to the point of obnoxious, so you can actually enjoy and absorb your course of study. Great cultural and social activities, and well rounded school culture."

"The college uses the phrase "Every major comes with a free minor in history," and it's cheesy but true. Charleston is the only place where you can be on vacation and at home at the same time, and it is a wonderful place to study. The size is perfect for those who enjoy personalized attention and access to professors when needed."

"CofC was amazing in 2009 and is even better now - better dorms, facilities and resources. My four years in The Holy City were truly special, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. The type of people that this school attracts are top notch, the beaches are clean and close, and you'll never have a hard time getting a buddy from out of town to visit YOUR school. Go Cougars!"

"The graduate program in Marine Biology is excellent at giving students opportunities to work with state and federal agencies involved in marine research. The professors, as well as the researchers nearby, are always available and willing to help you with research, career, or education questions. With that said however, funding for research and tuition is extremely limited and often times many students have to seek out other part-time jobs to cover tuition costs and living expenses."

"The good thing is your are in Charleston, the bad thing is that Charleston is very expensive( rent/ food), a lot of traffic and no or very expensive parking. There are some safety issues with campus (you are in a city) but no more than most. The faculty is available but don't have a lot to offer as far as guidance but the admissions staff was more help than most. I don't know a lot about the network or career support as I am only starting my first year. My biggest complaint so far is that I was told this was "inter-disciplinary" and as of yet I have not found this to be true. I got a good financial aid package so for me the value is good."

"Pros- We are exposed to several different types of math and science expectations and experiences that each teacher needs. Cons- Although we are exposed to different types of math and science, we need more higher level math courses offered at the graduate level."

"I have the utmost confidence in my graduate program and the staff that has made this program a reality. This is the first year that the College of Charleston is offering their child life specialist masters degree and I am thrilled to part of the inaugural class. Upon completion of the degree, I will be prepared to begin my career as a child life specialist within a hospital or medical setting. I am eager to be able to help children cope and develop while undergoing medical treatment and hospital stays. I look forward to utilizing teaching methods, coping strategies and play therapy to make their experience as pleasant as possible."

"I have learned so much by attending the College of Charleston, I will be graduating with a BS in Bio-Chem and BA in Theatre. My experience has been so good, I will be attending the University of Michigan Medical School in the fall of 2014. The staff and professors were always available to me, office hours are a plus. I would recommend the College of Charleston to anyone wanting a great education and living in a historic city."
