A tremendous learning experience. While not nationally know, the classes were challenging with a lot of work involved. The cost was reasonable and the instructors and staff were tremendous every step of the way. A great school to earn a degree for working people.
I'm very happy with my decision to go to CSU. I had great professors and staff that was willing to assist me in my journey. The only negative I can say is the disbursement process is extremely slow. A lot of students need funds to help while attending school. I've had to wait 3-4 weeks to receive funds after the semester has started. This week disbursements posted but because offices are closed wednesday until Monday of next week, nobody has received funds. The financial aid office just says we have 14 days to release funds. Let me tell you, they take full advantage of those days. There shouldn't be that much of a delay and it's unfair to students and needs to be changed. Other than that, it's a great school and affordable compared to other online schools.
Columbia Southern university is a great school. I waited nine years to get back into college I was more worried about making money then owning money to the government. The school really helped me slide back into the groove. What I found amazing was the access I had to real people such as advisors and instructors to the ease of getting online to complete the work. I been working full time as a law enforcement officer and sorry to say completed some discussion boards in between dispatch calls. One story I like to share was I forgot about a discussion board, I completed the assignment with a kindle fire on the beach it took forever but it shows how easy access was (Computers, Kindle Fire). I learned a lot from the classes and read examples which matched real world issues in the field such as juvenile crime. My employers two sheriff offices and now the federal government all recognize my degree so don't worry its a real school with real results. In closing the school and college experience was great and I went back for the bachelor as a challenge. "Good Luck"
I have never been so offended by a group of bias professors. These professors seem to forget that the students at this institution are working adults with many experiences. The professors are so bias about there own beliefs they will never open up to the generation of students that attend this place. Guess what CSU. Not all of your professors are as credible as they wish to make us believe. I spend my hard earned money to be ridiculed and to be told I have not had the experiences that I share with the class. If I was not on my last class to graduate I would drop this school right now!
This is the best online university academically. However, they take forever to disburse refunds. They would have your funds sit in one spot until the last day they can hold it. I have been a student at CSU since 2010, so it is imperative that I get a good quality of education. Every school has some type of shortcoming, and CSU shortcoming is giving out refunds.
It is a good school. Classes were good and dealt with my field of study. Professors were knowledgeable and helpful. Only regret I have is they are not regionally accredited, only nationally accredited, that does not take away from the education I received. Just some employers require a regionally accredited school.
The courses are great! The format is presented professionally and follows easy! The professors are informed and experts in the field! The University staff is great! - I have NO complaints! I have been attending since 2013. I have attended several traditional Colleges/University schools, as well as attending several online Colleges, this format is by far the best! The professional improvement is clear and noticed by my coworkers, and managers. It has directly improved my professional standing and contributed to advancements in my career! You will need: Dedication, Time Management skills, Character and a 'Self starting mentality', and an ability to hit the ground runnning! the sessions are 8 weeks long and there is no time to 'catch up' - it isn't fair to you, your class mates, the professor's, or the University! Great School, Great staff and I am a proud Alumni! I am currently attending to complete my MBA and know the quality of that credential will be well accepted and applied in my professional setting! Good luck to all considering attending, welcome aboard and best wishes!
Great School and great program. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to attend an online school. I completed my degree while working full-time as a police officer. I am now looking to complete another degree! The staff were always available to help and ensure you do well.
Very positive experience. I did a lot of research looking for Master’s program and had a friend whom graduated from CSU, so I contacted advisors, and following a couple conversations decided to enroll. Along with the book program, (very military friendly) Federal TA the university works with, reviews I was reading, and the overall friendly and helpful environment of the staff, I felt it was a win win. I work a lot, travel often for work, have 3 kids, involved in different volunteer programs, and sit on a board as the finance officer for a local organization within my community. My schedule would not support being tied down to time requirements to be online and blog. CSU fit the needs of my schedule perfectly. Couple thing to take into account if you are thinking of enrolling. Be prepared to read, write, and do the work. Classes are 10 weeks built on an 8 week configuration. So it allowed me to take a week off every 4 weeks, providing I stayed up on my assignments. It also assisted in providing additional time for the readings and research needed to be successful in achieving what you are paying for in your studies. • Reading….be prepared to read. Not only the text, which in an average week you could be reading 100+ pages, plus on line research, and other scholarly articles in preparation for whatever the weeks writing may require. Some textbooks you can get in PDF, which I found to be very helpful with travel and indexing for citation. • Citation….learn, live, and love APA. The professors will demand it. • CSU Professors….Overall, and by that I mean 98% of my professors were outstanding. They will challenged you and provided insightful feedback. Understand, that not all professors are good, weather online or on campus at a major university, some will just stink. I had a couple I did not agree with, does not mean they were bad, we just had a difference of opinion, and I learned from a different prospective. I think that was an interesting learning feature I was not expecting that enhanced my experience at CSU. • CSU Staff….outstanding! From the advisors to the bookstore guy, nothing but positive things to say. If you begin to fall behind…they will call. I was traveling for 3-4 weeks with little to no conductivity to turn in assignments on a couple of occasions (hard to believe in today’s world, but it is possible to go off the grid). They called to check up on me along with emails from my professors checking to see if I needed additional help. They want you to succeed. (I would download my assignments prior to travel, another great feature of the coursework) • Textbooks….Some I liked, some I did not. Many professors will require some citation from the text, they also realize that is not the only place of information in learning. Get to know the library online at CSU. Great resource for additional learning and citation in supporting your writings. Hope this helps if you are thinking of CSU. CSU fit my lifestyle, due to work, family, and community commitments. Understand that you will be challenged, but that’s what a Master’s degree is, it is not easy. If you’re looking for an easy Master’s degree, it probably is not a degree worthwhile. Some classes I found easy, they fit with my ideology on business and life, others, I had to work my butt off, but learned so much. When you are done…..it’s worth it. GOOD LUCK on your decision.
Loved this school and curriculum. I had a hard time at traditional colleges because I couldn't invest normal hours. I have children and a full time job. Columbia Southern was perfect because I could devote being a student and earning a degree on my own personal time. You have to do the work. I also like that each class is 8 weeks long Instead of 16. I would recommend this school to anyone.
