DeVry University Reviews - Bachelor's in Information Technology
Review of Information Technology Bachelors Degrees
I attended back in Fall 2013 and finished in August 2016. DeVry University taught me that evil exists in this world and they prey on the weak and vulnerable. DeVry university is the evil scam that ruined my life mentally and financially. I see a psychiatrist thanks to DeVry University evil ways. I took classes that were mostly copy and paste from google search since, they use past years curriculum without ever changing it every year like normal schools would. They over price their short 8 week classes, outdated textbooks/computer programs that are 5-10 years outdated, and, they hire subpar instructors that don't have expertise in what they are teaching. Overall after finishing the program, It has been over a year and I have not found work in the field and DeVry was investigated for false reporting of graduates and other claims but, all I got from the lawsuit was 200 dollars and yet I spend almost over 100 grand for a bachelors degree in CIS that is pretty worthless. DeVry university should be named the Devil's Underworld. DeVry is EVIL. Don't attend DeVry university or you will regret it mentally and financially like I did.
The class last about 2 months and we were graded on discussion posts which is like YouTube commenting or blog/news article commenting. The instructors and other students lived in faraway states which affected communication awkwardness and our instructors were very hard to reach for questions or concerns. The education was practically outdated information and outdated programming software from 2010 and 2013 software while taking classes in 2014-2017 and paying tuition 2500 dollars bi weekly plus extra class/board/ other fees for what???. We were cheated of the education we received. I hate to admit this but, DeVry University is a total ripoff.
I wouldn't waste your time or money. The curriculum is out-of-date, most classes need to be taken online. Most of the tests, exams and homework can easily be Googled. Did I mention that the curriculum is out-of-date. It's just an expensive degree that holds little value to most employers. Please don't waste your time or money.
This college has a lot of programs that help assist with your financial needs with working with courses and with school supplies and other needs that can demonstrate the way of college life.
Online classes at DeVry are so much better than what I have experienced at other institutions. The interface of the classroom is more user-friendly than at other schools. The teachers are attentive, knowledgeable, supportive, very present and interested in seeing you succeed in the course. Course materials are also great. Live feeds or recordings of weekly lectures are available in addition to other videos DeVry has made available that can be incorporated into your online learning experience. Online library resources are available and you even have access to librarians when you need help finding things in the online library. Even the online math classes are interactive. DeVry doesn't make it easy to pass classes because they are not a diploma mill. DeVry does, however, make it easy to learn with how interactive the online class environment is and all the resources the college offers. This has been my favorite college experience. I was worried that being online would leave me looking like a number instead of a student and that it would be harder to learn. That is NOT the case at DeVry. I highly recommend DeVry and DeVry's online classes.
Do not go to this school. They are scam artist. They are holding my transcript because I owe them money for a class that THEY withdrew me from without my knowledge. They also threatened to ruin my credit because of this. I will be able to get my transcript next year once this bill is paid. I told them that they are stopping my education but they told me to pay more each month so I can get my transcript quicker. I am one of the people now that will never finish college because of them; Cant afford too. Thanks Devry.
This university is tremendously horrible. I wouldn't even send my cat here honestly. The support from staff and professors is virtually non existent. The tuition fees are out of this world expensive. I was paying for nothing but air. If you value yourself please don't attend this university.
I attended DeVry 2001-2002, the year they became accredited as a university (Institute of Technology to University). They offered a one year B.S degree in IT for students who already had obtained a bachelors degree of any major. I graduated and earned a B.S in Information Technology, but the program included no professional certifications and the courses did not train for what employers were looking for. This was their biggest selling point on this program. While I was still in the program, the career services team would tell us they would ALWAYS be there to provide their services after graduation, however immediately upon graduation, they would not respond to phone calls, emails or would just be unwilling to provide the service they claimed they would provide. I paid $20K to them for a useless diploma. They canceled this degree program shorty after I graduated also.
Its an OK college. They give a lot of generalized education in your degree, not enough specifics unless you get a masters. They help you find a job if you stay in the colleges region, but no help if you leave.
I'm ashamed to say that I'm a graduate of DeVry. I attended DeVry 1988 thru 1991 when the school was called DeVry Institute of Technology in Industry CA. The education was not adequate to get a job in my field of study. I graduated with a BS degree in Telecommunications Management & I'm not working in that field. After about a year of sending resumes & going to interviews I finally got a job in a computer chip fabrication company for what was close to minimum wage at the time. Sad to say it was the only job at the time where I did not mention DeVry. I'm at a better job now with the State, & I have not mentioned DeVry as my college. I feel that had I gone to a real college, my earnings would have been better right from the start of my job search. I attended DeVry because I had no where else to go or do. I was out of high school for a year & was working as a clerk at a grocery store. DeVry was a quick way to get out of being a clerk because I believed all the lies about the quality education & high percentage of job placements after graduation. My first interview after graduation was a real eye opener for me because that is when I realized that I did not have enough education to be hired for a job in the telecommunications field. The job that I have now is no thanks to DeVry. When asked about where I went to college, I'll say some other school. I got good grades but is was all for not because in the interviews in the field of telecommunications I felt very inadequate & stupid because I was not able to answer questions that I could have an answered had I gone to a real college. I did not mention my disappointment to my parents because I did not want to make them feel as ashamed as I did. I can say that I hate DeVry, but I can also say that I should have done my research before deciding to go to DeVry. I've learned to put my DeVry experience behind me to where I don't get upset anymore. I made many good friends while at DeVry. I'll just say that DeVry is a fraud, their job placement dept. is joke, & I will never recommend this place to anyone.
