DeVry University Reviews of Bachelor's in Technology Management

I attended DeVry in Sherman Oaks, CA. I am a single mom, military vet, work full time and completed 3 courses every term in order to complete my bachelor's degree in half the time. I was able to complete the program with all A's and took both online& on campus. A few of my professors allowed my kid to sit in class with me because I didn't have a baby sitter, which I thought was awesome! Some of the courses were hard and some were easier than others. I spent 14 months of studying, and had hardly any time with friends or family events. You have to be dedicated if you really want it. I landed a 3 job interviews within a few weeks of graduating and got hired. without my bachelor's degree I would not qualify for certain jobs. I would highly recommend DeVry. Great programs.

DeVry University provides the instructors and the platform to learn. Their communication is excellent in my opinion. I make a point to talk to academic and finance weekly. If you are willing to read a lot, research a lot, write online almost daily, study daily then you will succeed. This school isnt going to spoon feed you, no school will. I stay up late almost every evening to study and complete assigned work. Financial aid department is very helpful. I have received pell grant each semester. It is properly disbursed on time or early if I ask. I have failed to the point of suspension with the school. I had to be accepted again and make a rigid plan to succeed. It was my fault that I failed, it is easy to get behind on work if not trying. Each class you have to get 1,000 points to earn a 100% in class. If you do not submit a 40 point assignment, your grade will automatically be 96% max. There is 8 week terms so if a few assignments are missed, failing is very real. You better be ready to succeed no matter what. You are ultimately responsible for you. You need to use he tools available to succeed. You need to go over everything with advisors before agreeing to anything. There is no hidden fees. Everything is explained. You have to listen and take notes.

I attended DeVry University in hopes that a Bachelor's degree will help me with my future career. This is not the case. I graduated in 2014 with a degree in Technical Management with a focus in Healthcare. I am currently working in a law firm instead as an intake specialist. I am no where near the position at which my degree pertains to and I have been applying everywhere just trying to get my foot in the door. They gave me resume tips and the rest is up to you. You have to network yourself which is fine but a little help would still be helpful. This school is basically in it for the money which is they are a for-profit school. Don't go here. It's a waste of time and money.

To start, this is a for-profit institution that has shareholders. I first started in 2005 and graduated in 2008. My time there bad, because of the actual real life professional willing to teach for the pay they offer. If you think about it, it makes sense, why take a lower pay for crappier work. Because of this lack of teachers my professors would leave early, be late, or not show up resulting in a few semesters having to take my classes online. Credits you earn dont transfer well if you try to leave to another institution. When I graduated with my AS I could not locate a job anywhere, so I thought if I went back to get my BS that would help. NOPE! Same scenario, no one would hire me. When I really look back the carrier advisor as an institution was terrible, could not find me a job, and constantly wanted to try to use me as example of a successful student to try and recruit people, not to mention she was also rude. Because of your lack of experience companies will not hire you, since they can hire someone who is already has that experienced and dont have to spend time and money training you. Finding your next job is all about connection building, and who will take a chance on you get you hired. The pool of people DeVry has offers is small compared to your local fresno city, fresno state. I would not limit the friendships you could build, the teachers you could meet, or the overall experience for this for-profit institution. They cant compete with the bigger institution, or get a bigger parking lot and most they really dont care about you. Case and point. For my 10-year university of my graduation, they sent me an e-mail invitation inviting graduates to gather. This meeting would be in the lunch area (small) where they would provide sandwiches (cheap) and it would be for only 2 hours (I know they rent other rooms in the afternoon for more time than that). You get what you paid for. I got in and got out and never trusted another institution since. My first loan was taken in 2005 and I will finally pay it off all of my loans in 2017. Student loan companies have the right to sell your loan to another institution making your 1 payment a month to two payments a month. Do that more than once and youll end up with 4 separate payments like me. Not worth it. Stay debt free and go the traditional route. It will be a whole lot less stress in your life, in the long run. Worst program I have been in. I graduated from a junior college with 2 assoc degrees in 2 years and have been taking classed for 2.5 years here just to get a bach degree. You will NOT graduate faster. The classes can all be found on Google. You will find some good teachers but most don't care and don't have to do anything. DeVry has been a great help. I was looking for a school with the family type of environment, and that's what DeVry U is. There for you when you need them, and tough love when you need it as well. I can truly say they have equipped, and prepared me to take the things I've learn, and I will be nothing but successful in the industry that my degree is in.
