  • Degree: Accounting
"Well, I’ve been attending since the pandemic and my experience had not been great. Academic dishonesty aka cheating is rampant. Its pretty much a diploma mill but since its AACSB accredited and the cost per credit hour is less than that of any other university its a cheap affordable diploma mill. You can buy a degree here. All you have to do is pay your tuition and show up to class."

  • Degree: Graphic Design
"Graphic Design To start, you'll need to complete gen eds and the foundations for the program. I believe those include basic drawing, painting, and sculpture classes. The painting class is particularly expensive, so keep that in mind. I think it came out to over $100 for supplies and whatnot. After that, you'll take Graphic Design 1-3 as well as some art history courses and a few electives. The professors for the design classes are pretty great-the projects are interesting and you'll be able to challenge yourself. If Bill Kerr still teaches there, make sure to take a class with him! He's one of the best professors I've ever had for any class I've ever taken. He's genuinely interesting, he's incredibly well versed in the field and in related work, and he also cares about his students. If I could, I'd go back in time and take his classes exclusively. The end of the program culminates with a gallery exhibition. it's sort of a freestyle project, so make sure you brainstorm some ideas even though it's at the end of senior year! Digital Cinema The professor that teaches the program is a really interesting guy and you can learn a lot from him, but I wouldn't recommend this program unless you are incredibly self driven and want a sort of independent study type thing. I'd go with photography instead if you want to take this route."

  • Degree: Social Work
"The program is not very challenging, and the faculty - while nice- are not very organized. There is no cohesiveness, and you can never get the same answer from any two people. I paid for my letters, but did not learn anything. The perk: full time advanced standing students can graduate in as little as 9 months."

"Dominican should not have an Advanced Standing option. The curriculum is a direct repeat of undergraduate social work, and honestly, the only positive is the fact that the school has a 9 month program. I would advise perspective Advanced Standing students to look elsewhere if they are interested in learning more."

"Dominican University is a small, private catholic University with thoughtful, caring faculty and staff. They are just as welcoming to commuter students as to resident students. Set in a beautiful suburb of Chicago, it affords many opportunities for activities off campus. They are very well respected for their various masters programs."

"The program is great, it really teaches you a lot about what social work is all about, good clinical program and the classes are excellent with professionals in the field teaching them. I strongly recommend others to attend the program at Dominican University. I had a great experience. The students learn the main skills to become an effective social work. The atmosphere is friendly and helpful."

  • Degree: Social Work
"I do not feel very challenged at this school. I have friends that are enrolled in other graduate social work programs from different schools and their work load appears to be more challenging and demanding. I feel too much concentration is spent on community research and global issues rather than helping the individual and family. The fact that it is a small school environment makes it easier to form bonds with your cohort and work together successfully."

  • Degree: Ministry
"Attending Dominican University was one of the best decisions I've made in my life. The four years I spent on DU's campus were filled with challenges and successes, strong relationships, and an academic experience that has gotten me to where I am today. The small class sizes and the opportunity to personally know faculty members were some of the top reasons I chose DU. Throughout my time there, I was mentored by multiple professors, as I was challenged to think in a new way in all of my classes. If you would have asked me as an 18-year-old what I would have been involved with during college, I would have had no idea. During my time at DU, I became involved in University Ministry, Academic Advising, Residence Life, Undergraduate Admissions, Student Involvement, and other initiatives on campus. The people I met, both other students and staff members, have each impacted my life in a significant way, and I am forever grateful for that. Dominican provided me with an excellent education and opportunities to succeed academically, while challenging me to grow as an individual outside of the classroom as well!"

  • Degree: Library Science
"Overall, the Library Science program is a good program. The academics are of good quality and the professors really do want to get to know their students. The university takes campus safety very seriously and the shuttle is on time for the most part. Additionally, when going to talk to a career counselor about resumes, cover letters, internships, and practicums, the counselor is very helpful and encouraging. The only cons would be that there are a lot of commuter students so there's not a whole lot of community at times (especially on the weekends) and that grad school is expensive. Despite these cons, it is definitely worthwhile to go to Dominican because the pros definitely outweigh the cons."

  • Degree: Nutrition
"One good thing about my graduate program is that it is one of the few programs that offer an MBA degree in the field of dietetics. Most schools only offer an M.S. but at Dominican University, we are able to dive into the business side of nutrition. Another pro of my program is the faculty. Though we a pretty small compared to other colleges on campus, the staff and faculty members are a great help and ensure that the students move on to become successful professionals in their field. Living in Chicago, the weather can be drastic. Having to drive to different rotations/internship sites can be very hard. That is why one of the main cons of my program is the travel we have to do as students between driving to campus and to other sites. Lastly, because Dominican University is a private institution, tuition and other fares are pretty high. This has left me to turn to more student loans. In general, I am pleased where I am at and excited to graduate from this prestigious campus."

"The faculty of this program are almost always accessible in one form or another, and take a sincere interest in their students education. They treat students with respect and help to facilitate stimulating conversation in class while also providing meaningful assignments and having relevant and knowledgable guest speakers to present on a variety of topics. The program is a bit pricey, but there are reasonable housing options in the area. Also, there are very few social events at this school. But there are several options for transportation, and this school is only 8 or 10 miles from the heart of Chicago."
