"I was/am extremely disappointed with this school, particularly the administration. VCOM is run far more like a business (which, yes, it is) than an institution of learning (which it also is). Upon beginning at VCOM I heard rumors from students surrounding their dissatisfaction with various aspects of the school, particularly in regard to leadership and administration. Among other things, a common and significant concern I heard was the schools lack of response and openness to student feedback hearing but not listening, as well as a general lack of support. After being there for a few months I began to see what students were referring to. Although much of the negative things I had heard from students I didnt find to be an issue initially, I later started to be impacted by them. The actions, and in certain respects, inaction taken by the administration were appalling, leading me to withdraw from this school (even being in good standing and having above a 3.0 gpa) - and I am not the kind of person who gives up. I encountered obstacles that I have never encountered at any other institution. I have studied at multiple post-secondary institutions, abroad and in the US, and VCOM has the worst leadership and administration I have ever encountered. I would not recommend any aspiring medical student to apply, and in fact, highly discourage it. Lastly, I want to make it clear that not everyone in connection with VCOM is negative. I encountered many wonderful and knowledgeable faculty members at this school. The real issue is the leadership."

"Attending Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Spartanburg, SC is amazing. It is like a small family there where your classmates and all, and I mean ALL, of the staff are looking out for you. You can easily get one on one attention if needed. Compared to other schools, I think VCOM is an excellent choice because they have all the resources you need right on campus. You complete your own dissections, learn clinical skills, work in the SIM labs, and have opportunities to volunteer seeing patients starting in your first year. You are taught by doctors and specialists that work for the school, but also from the surrounding area as well. Therefore, your education is from doctors that are still practicing in the field and love their work. The school also encourages and provides opportunities for the students to have an active lifestyle outside of the classroom, following true to osteopathic philosophy. It is truly a place I am glad to call a home away from home."

"I am currently attending the Graduate Certificate Program at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Virginia Campus. The purpose of this 2 semester graduate program is to help boost students' biomedical knowledge and academic resumes to increase students' chances of gaining acceptance to medical school. The program also has a guaranteed acceptance to one VCOM's three campuses if students meet their GPA and MCAT benchmarks at one of the three review times throughout the year. The classes taken during this one year program mimic classes taught in the medical school. By the end of the one year program, students have covered the vast majority of the information taught in VCOM's block 1 curriculum as well as a significant amount of fundamental information taught in other blocks. All of the classes are taught by medical school professors, so the content is highly challenging combined with quality, professional instruction. I love this program so far, as it is preparing me well for medical school by broadening my depth of knowledge while pushing me to develop successful study strategies. This program has greatly increased my self confidence in pursuing a career in medicine. I greatly appreciate that this program emphasizes the importance of trying out various rigorous study strategies and adapting the techniques to develop successful, sustainable habits. The program is successful in its mission, as I have recently been accepted to VCOM -Virginia Campus for Class of 2021. I highly recommend VCOM's Graduate Certificate Program to anyone who has had difficulty gaining acceptance to medical school and/or is taking a nontraditional route to medicine."
