Student & Graduate Reviews

"Great stream lined experience. It saved me time, travel, and money. I had 2 school aged children and 1 in middle school. Worked FT in hospice. I had many years as LPN. I passed with flying colors. Aced several exams, others passed with C. My grade was alway directly proportional to amount of work I invested. I would only recommend this to LPNs with at least 5 years experience. If u are a new LPN do not attempt it. I was used to State surveyors and JACHO surveyors so the CPNE did not scare me much."

"my experience there honestly wasn't any guidance. i didn't understand how it worked DESPITE i had paid for all my tuition, registration fee. the adviser they assigned to me wasn't helpful at all. even the other students that are enrolled don't fully know whats going on. those who were about to graduate spoke of poor experiences and advised the new comers to quit before going further. i have over 22 years of experience in nursing. i'm ol'ready a field nurse/LPN. trust me i was very willing and able to apply myself. i re-enrolled and they told me i had to start over from scratch once they had changed their enrollment process. ONE DAY AGO AFTER their website had errors and no one got back to me???? WARNING SIGN OF SUPPORT there..........you've been warned all the reviews aren't the best but everyone's experience is their own. good luck on your journey of nursing."

"I am so grateful for the opportunity Excelsior has given me to earn my RN degree! I tested out of all my nursing courses and learned so much from self-studying. I passed all my nursing exams on the first try and moved along the program smoothly and quickly. The CPNE was the most challenging thing I ever had to prepare for, but it prepares you to work as an RN using best nursing practice. To prepare, I strictly referred to the study guide and attended Excelsior Colleges workshop and did the online careplan class. I did not use an outside source for any of my preparation. I passed CPNE on my first attempt. After graduation they prepare you for NCLEX using ATI which I found very helpful. I passed my NCLEX on first attempt and found an RN position right away! The program is what you make of it! It takes perseverance, sacrifice and many hours of studying. I graduated feeling very confident and proud of my education."

"If you going to school for your ADN, this is not the school for you. You will waist many years and money to take your CPNE. When you finally get a chance to take your CPNE, its such a negative, nerve racking experience, you wish you never put yourself in this situation. Its to late at this point, no one will accept your credits and you have waisted years and money. Take the time and invest in a local nursing school for your degree. I would never recommend the nursing program. The other programs they offer you opportunities but not nursing."

"I earned both a ASN and a Bachelor of Science at Excelsior. My success was determined largely by two factors. I was very motivated and willing to work hard for my degree. The second factor was that Excelsior always was clear on what was expected of me. Granted, I was one of those that passed the CPNE on the first try. I almost failed, but as I was waiting for my professor, I realized an error I made, and corrected it. It is a very hard test. I practiced for it relentlessly. It did make me a better nurse having to prepare for this exam. Prayer was the third factor that got me through it! Excelsior is not for those that are not comfortable teaching themselves. After two degrees, I will say without a doubt that the school is on the up and up. I would only say good things about Excelsior."

"Do not try it. It is scam. Money pit. They keep coming up with ways to charge more money. They only have a 60% pass rate and this includes people who have tried again and again. Anything is better than trying this route. Take my advise. They are hands down the most difficult people I've ever dealt with."

"This school is nothing but a scam. All of the "nursing classes" are basically just discussions boards. I should have known it was too good to be true..nursing isn't supposed to be easy, but I found those classes to be a breeze and was not at all prepared for the CPNE. The CPNE is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced and I learned absolutely nothing from it. What I can tell you is you will be failed for such small details that aren't related to nursing in any way shape or form. This school (which I don't even think they deserve to be a school) literally takes money from you. I had to wait over a year to take my CPNE even after I finished all of the classes online. I made a huge mistake coming here, as I had other options. DO NOT give this school a dime. For nursing , go to a traditional program where you will have instructors that push you and teach you to be the best nurse you can be. This school is a bunch of cons and I mean that with every bone in my body."

"Terrible experience - there is no teaching involved and the "tests" you take measure test taking skills, not learning. When you finally get to the CPNE (the practical), you have to wait about 14 months for a test date. The pass rate is about 58%, and that only if you pay many dollars to private teachers who teach how to 'game' Excelsior's system. Again it isn't learning nursing, it is memorizing tiny details unrelated to actual nursing. I would strongly recommend a 'brick-and-mortar' school that actually teaches nursing."

"The most dishonest bunch of thieves. This is not what nursing is about and they taught me nothing. The only thing they really taught was how to come up with strategies for them not to fail you on NON nursing issues. Everything I learned was from a nursing workshop NOT excelsior. Please do not go here!"

"This was the most unethical experience I have ever had with those who call themselves "nurses" and at that, I am talking about master degree nurses. The examiners I had at this place were dishonest, driven by money and did nothing more than to follow the leader to secure their own jobs with no regard for students of good moral character. How does one judge the difference between those characters if one is rotten to the core, dishonest and continues the pattern? Would not go here if just one honest person wrote it the way it is."
