Don't believe all the bad reviews out there!! I completed the LPN to RN program in 20 months and everything went smoothly. I honestly feel like the people who give this program bad reviews are just simply bad at following directions and are sore that they couldn't. I did this while working as a full-time LPN and raising 3 children. You can do it! Stay motivated and it will pay off!! Good luck!!

It is all up to the person looking in the mirror, every college has their challenges . Hard work is easy, I went from Paramedic to RN . was not easy but there was no reason to fail. What helped me was knowing two of my co workers had became RN's through this program.

The grading system is the worst I've ever seen in any college setting. The CPNE was thrown out, so the school have to make up for it some how. You will do hours upon hours of Prep-U quizzes which leaves little time for studying for exams. The 30+ quizzes you have to take is worth 1% of your grade, test are 30-50%, quizzes are 30%. That's just about an automatic fail if you fail a test. Books are over $2000 dollars and they expire.

I graduated from Excelsior College years ago with an associated science in nursing. Yes, it required lots of studying time. One of the reasons many LPN doesn't do good because they fail to think on rn level, they want to continue lpn mentality. Yes at first it was difficult for me, I soon realized I had to move out of the practical nurse mode to thinking as registered nurse. I will always remember this school because it was where I started in the 90s. It open many doors for me. However, I pursued... Read More

I see a lot of negative reviews on this school for the nursing program, but I on the other hand loved it. Because I travel a lot, it was great to be able to access my classes on my own time from my own computer. The key to this school (especially the nursing curriculum) is to definitely learn how to take the initiative to study and learn the lessons on your own. This is not to say you are literally on your own, as the classes provide you with all needed materials and information, you just have to... Read More

I was initially excited about this program being it was flexible online instruction for the already working Nurse. However, one of my instructors (one that used to instruct the old CPNE's the school used to require), would fail people for very petty nick picky things that were not even part of the Rubric we were instructed to follow to a "T." We had to video ourselves completing a head to toe assessment. Shouldn't be that hard considering we are all already Nurses and do this every single day. So,... Read More

ADN program was horrible. Excelsior told me that it would take 3 months to get scheduled for final 3 day in hospital test (which I had to travel for). In reality, took over a year to get scheduled which put me way behind on my goals. The test wasn't realistic and was only memorization. It was such a poor experience that I haven't wanted to leave a review because I didn't even want to deal with having to think about it. I am in a BSN program online right now with another school and am having an amazing... Read More

The courses take a while 8 weeks each, there is a lot of work to do, but it’s how you learn. 6 week classes would’ve been a little better. Also they don’t give you enough financial aid to cover the cost of textbooks which is extremely expensive for the nursing classes. You need several books with online access and have to pay for 12 month, 24 month, or 36 months, and the longer the access the more expensive.

Excelsior College provided a great way to get my education while balancing work life and home life. Although, it was challenging, the staff was always there to provide support and guidance when I needed it. I plan to go back soon and get my BSN and I am so excited.

I just want to say that I read some of these reviews and for people to say this school is a scam is RIDICULOUS! I mean the application process to get into the college is pretty spot on for what it requires of you to succeed! Yeah it's expensive but the end outweighed that for me. I did the test out option on the exams so I can't comment on their actual "online" courses. Yes I struggled with obtaining the right stuff to have my CPNE application approved. I suggest reading that WAY ahead of time and... Read More

Excelsior College have me the opportunity to earn my LPN to RN license without having to give up my career and family life. I did the online class option with cpne and much of it is self taught. If you put in the work and do not make excuses you will be successful. The CPNE was fair and to the point the videos and study material equipped me with everything I needed to be successful in my degree. Passed NCLEX on first try with no problem.

What a joke. A money machine. Regardless of Covid, this college would not allow in person clinicals. So zoom with NO instructional guidance...fail each zoom. With no feedback. Only once said, you forgot to introduce yourself. So next was detailed, with the response..you were too detailed. Never knew what they wanted, all they said was we cant tell you anything. Lost tons of money because this college wanted more and more money for new testing. Spent 20k for 1 yr of college...ended up with NO degree... Read More

I started at excelsior as an Lpn with 2 toddlers. I was able to complete all my classes online while working full time as a night nurse. Had baby #3 and just passed my CPNE first attempt! It's not impossible you just have to work and put in the efforts! Trust me! A mom of 3, full time night nurse and I was successful!

This school is an abomination. It is riddled with hidden fees, advertised as "complete your LPN/VPN" in 18 months. This is a LIE; first of all, thousands of students are lured in, yet only "CPNE" skill out sites exist; thus, you do their online courses and Pearson vue CBT tests (their outlines are pretty useless, they provide two practice exams you cannot print out and use as further outlines, and are very ambiguous as to what part of which text is "fair game"). Also, if you experience a problem... Read More

Excelsior college is not a scam. You get exactly what you put into it. I was enrolled in the paramedic to RN program and was successful. Couldn't have been able to do it any other way. I am currently a Family Nurse Practitioner, working on a postmasters certificate in Emergency Nurse Practitioner. Being successful in the program is not based on past experiences in caring for patients, you just have to do what they need you to do to be successful. Follow the rules and you got it.

I have been enrolled for 4 1/2 years and it was a great experience for me. It allowed go to remember how to PUSH THROUGH. I just completed CPNE virtually and successfully passed. I had a lot of family struggles and hardship during those 4 1/2 years which allowed me to pick up where I left off after dealing with family deaths (sister, motherNlaw, brother’s and Father). I paid my annual fee and tested whenever I could which was convenient. The advisors were supportive. I failed the CPNE in person when... Read More

I don not usually leave reviews, but I feel that some of the reviews are unfair. I had a very favorable experience with Excelsior, so much so that I have enrolled again to achieve my BSN. I was able to keep my full time LPN job and work my way through the classes at my pace. At the time of enrollment you were advised how the classes were conducted and that you were basically self teaching. If you did run into difficulty with the subject matter, you could schedule a conference with your teacher. I... Read More

Choosing to earn my degree online also meant that I was able to work full-time during my degree program. Working a 40-hour work week and motivating myself to complete classwork and study for exams was challenging, but my professors were extremely patient, worked with my schedule, and encouraged me to succeed. Even though my degree program was online, the coursework was rigorous and I felt like it prepared me for a real-world career. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Excelsior College and I would... Excelsior College may seem like a time saving godsend but do not waste your time if you intend on pursuing an additional degree. There is a year plus waiting period for your final requirement and it's costly and I just found out that the A and P they offer does not transfer. You will have to take it again with a lab. There are also additional requirements for you to practice in most states other than New York and Washington and California will not even recognize your degree. I met my wife after I... Read More

Hi KN Please do not assume that because students did not pass the cpne it means that they did not prepare. I worked very hard and attained/paid other services outside of Excelsior to prepare for the cpne. I did the pilot program and pass part 1. 5 months later I was unsuccessful in passing the other section of the cpne.Note...(I passed the first patient). I was prepared studied, reviewed, the videos, practiced on my children, family, friends, attended the workshop, you name it I did it. I even have... Read More
