FIU is the kind of school in which you can get lost and often you feel like you are just a series of numbers. It is up to each student to make the campus feel like home away from home, especially for the few that will be living out of the dorms. FIU is a very large university and is mostly a commuter school, which means that at the end of the day we pack up and go home, in most cases to our families. FIU is an incredibly strong university in terms of diversity, and I dare say that the least represented group is that of white, non-hispanics. This school provides you with a truly fantastic mixture of individuals from all paths of life, coming from countries most people have not even heard of before. FIU also tries to get students involved in anything and everything and this I truly recommend because it helps you find your niche and reduces the +56,000 students to just a few thousands. Professors are not looking to baby you and you will be held responsible for your shortcomings; however you will also be endlessly recognized for your successes. Professors will regard you as a fellow scholar if you give them reason to believe you truly are dedicated to your field. You will meet many graduate students and they will write the most amazing recommendation letters for you when the time comes. Students develop affinities for certain professors and are able to take as many classes with these scholars as they want. The curriculum is varied and there is no shortage of opportunities, but you have to want it and pursue it like your life depends on it. You must show yourself to be worthy of help and time, but that is just how life works. All in all, I love my school with all my heart.
Overall I recommend the Graduate Certificate Program for any students applying to medical school throughout a transition year. It emulates FIU HWCOM's first year medical school curriculum and prepares students for the rigors of medical school. The courses are taught by medical school faculty and at the level of medical school exams. We even took the NBME subject exams that medical students across the nation take, and in some cases the average of our class was higher than the national average. Apart from the rigorous academic criteria, we learn invaluable professionalism aspects that help us in interviews and in professional life. The professionalism classes helped in understanding ethical aspects of medicine as well as differences in insurance and health systems. This program is great for a transition/preparation year, but it should be noted that this program is extremely challenging; this is absolutely nothing like undergraduate classes. I recommend whoever enters this program apply to other medical schools and not have all of their eggs in one basket since medical school admissions is competitive. Overall, this program is great in preparing you for medical school and I highly recommend it!
Great professors and online learning was very convenient, while still getting the same level of commitment from professors and peers as courses taken on campus. The degree really helped me achieve many career goals and obtain the position I wanted to be able to have once I graduated.
Florida International University is an amazing learning institution based in South Florida. The diversity of the student body, the welcoming environment, and the hard working faculty made my college experience an amazing one. FIU helped give me the tools I needed to finish my undergraduate and get accepted into law school with a scholarship. The present administration has continuously worked to see how they can make FIU a better university by incorporating more and more programs that benefit the students. FIU truly fits their motto of being "worlds ahead".
Florida International University is overall a great school with an ever expanding campus, and programs that are striving to go beyond the needs of today's society. The programs are ranking higher every year. I went back to FIU to get my MBA and I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the professors. They are teaching me skills that I am already applying on my day-to-day activities.
I attended Florida International University as a Biology major. At FIU, there are so many opportunities being sent to you as a student. I have gotten so much information regarding internships I could apply to, jobs, shadowing, and research. I was even approached by a TA and asked to join a research group (although this doesn't happen often; you normally have to apply). You have so many opportunities to bulk up your resume as a student here, and the advisers are always willing to help or give you advice. Also I feel like I've gotten a great, well-rounded education here and feel pretty confidant going into graduate school.
I travel a lot for work and the need to acquire my degree was important to me. I did a lot of research and found that Florida International University had the degree and field of study that I wanted. Within no time I called and filed an application and was ready to go. After graduating I still get emails on up and coming events and networking socials that will further my career. Upon obtaining my diploma I realized how much I needed to learn and decided that the next step for me was seeking a Masters. If it was not for the online program that was easy and flexible with my ever changing schedule I would not have come to that decision and be in my first year now.
I feel lucky as well as proud to have completed my Bachelor's at Florida International University. My campus was one exemplifying overwhelming diversity, rigorous course and a multitude of opportunities for students to become involved. I was challenged during my four years in and out of the classroom.
I went to Florida International University for my Bachelors and the staff and professors are dedicated to their students. They gave the students the necessary tools to further/pursue their career. I am using said tools while in my Masters program (MBA - Management).
Fiu was amazing and the accounting program there is great with amazing professors and plenty of networking opportunities. Many students ended with multiple offers from the big-4, national, regional and local firms. If you do decide to attend make sure to join beta alpha psi or alpha.
