"I'm a first generation college student, so I wasn't aware of University of Georgia or Georgia Tech. The "campus" itself is weird, spread out among downtown Atlanta. Definitely doesn't feel prestigious now and clearly most of the students aren't from the best of their high schools. But I have a decent job now and glad I went here as opposed to a community college."

"I had a great experience at Georgia State. Several of our classes were directly related to things I now use in my career. I met many of my closest friends in my classes at Georgia State."

"GA State is in an urban setting. Some of the buildings are a good walk from each other, so depending on your class schedule it can be kind of a hustle to get from one place to another. I originally started at a smaller college that felt like I was in grade 13...pretty much high school all over again. I liked the independence and "grown up" feel of GSU. Nobody is going to hold your hand and make you go to class, but most of the professors are very responsive if you reach out to them. I was a commuter, and I liked that I went to class, did my thing, and then went back to my "normal" life - working, friends, etc."

"Georgia State is a wonderful university located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. With reasonable class sizes you get the experience of being a college student while being able to start transitioning to adulthood by taking buses, figuring your way around the city, etc."

"The business school provides a well-rounded education and I felt prepared for my career. The school has organizations for specific majors and for the business school in general, which helps introduce students to networking and professional meetings. Most business classes were taught in Aderhold when I attended, which is a newer and nicer building than others on campus. I also took classes at the Alpharetta campus, closer to my home, which was more convenient than going downtown. Parking and security were always a concern after night classes, when many of the specialized Real Estate classes were taught. Students walked in a group to MARTA or to their parking area to help ensure safety. During the day, security was less of a concern due to more business people and other students in the area."

"The M.Ed. in School Counseling at Georgia State is a strong program for budding professionals. My classes, coursework, peers and professors continually challenge me to be a prepared professional. I have learned much about multicultural counseling--counseling and advocating for students of color, students who identify as LGBTQA, and students with special needs and disabilities. I am happy to have enrolled in a program that acknowledges the experiences of various people groups and teaches me that counseling services provided must be sensitive to each client. Moreover, I am halfway through my program and my professors have already provided several networking opportunities to meet and shadow school counseling professionals Most of my courses are held in the middle of city, which tends to have a higher crime rate than more rural areas; however, my school makes an effort to keep students safe by offering police escorts in the evenings and notifying students when a crime related to the school community occurs."

"I bleed blue because I love my GSU. Georgia State was a WONDERFUL experience for me. I'm a city girl, so that's one of the things that attracted me to the university. I've heard students HORRIBLE experiences with professors but I can honestly say that ALL of my teachers, from freshman year to senior year, were amazing. They were very passionate and knowledgeable about their field. All of my professors were very approachable. Some of my professors even went out of their way to ensure I understood the material. I love the students and the campus. I even loved GSU police. Most people would complain that the campus is too spread out but I love it. You're in the middle of downtown so the connections are endless. When I entered my field, the rigorous course work and high expectations from the teachers and staff prompted me to shift my focus, and even humble my pride to ask for help. The professors and advisors were all very helpful. If you like the city I would definitely recommend Georgia State University. But it's not for everyone. Because it's in the city there is always a lot going on. I love the diversity! You can never be bored, unless you're just tired of Atlanta..... or Georgia"

"While many think of GSU campus being unsafe for students, the business school is not located in the downtown campus but in the Buckhead campus. Buckhead is an affluent uptown district in Atlanta that is completely safe and easily accessible. It might be a bit expensive to live around this campus, but you can seek housing in nearby places that is closer to the Marta train stations. This campus also hosts a lot of research centers which will be helpful for students seeking research assistantships. The business school career center is well networked but sometimes you will have to carve out your own niche to find that opportunity you deserve. Being an international student, you might have to make sure you are clear about your fee structure, housing, program, tuition waivers(if you hold a GRA) etc. before starting, since you will not be notified about anything until asked for. Co ordination between the main and the business school campus is pretty weak."

"The faculty for GSU's social work program is amazing. The professors are accessible and want the students to succeed. The opportunities for valuable field education are great as the school is in downtown Atlanta. I have really enjoyed my time in this program so far."

"I think it is not up to your school, but a lot rests on your shoulder and your skills to get a job after school. I came to USA to study and GSU helped me succeed my life goals. Although the career services didn't helped me a great deal. Companies in Metro Atlanta would rather hire grads/interns from GA Tech/UGA/Emory. That's how it is. Face it and compete against them. Most of the jobs are applied online these days anyways. The charm of Downtown will amaze you!"

"Georgia State has a pleasant campus, wonderful library with study areas, and a great cafeteria. The degrees are solid and well rounded. Commuting was not a problem as the school is right off Interstate 75. Lighted parking decks and security presence are always a comfort."

"The DPD (nutrition) program at GSU is phenomenal. Most of the instructors are informative, helpful, and organized which maximize the students' learning experience. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in pursing a career in nutrition. They will surely prepare you for the field and the required national examination."

"The student career center appeared to find a job for a girl that knew no programming, but told me I would have to find one myself using their service. They have a lot of options, but I still feel they could have done more because of that. The school seems to always have errors when it comes to my account, but I can usually get them resolved quickly. I encountered this same problem at a school for Technology, so I feel this isn't too large an issue. The only financial aid I have been offered during my time at Georgia State University came in the form of loans. I would prefer another type, but it's from the school itself, so I suppose it's understandable. With everything else, the school seems to be fine. There is a large amount of diversity at the school, which makes me think they don't hold a bias towards any particular group. They have a lot of public transport services located near to the school as well as several fun spots from the center of the city. In addition, the teachers seem to give a decent amount of work, which helps you learn but does not overload you. I cannot comment on the value of the graduate program, however. I have only recently been admitted and do not know how well it will serve me in my attempts to find a job with the degree."

"The program is currently growing, so it is in the middle of a transition phase which leads to a lot of pot holes in taking care of problems while the cost of attendance is on the rise. However, the professors are extremely helpful and caring."
