"I am currently in this masters program and I highly do not recommend it. Several professors lack compassion. The grading scale is really competitive a 95 and above is an A. They have very little leniency when it comes to personal matters. If I could go back I would not go here."

"I used to be graduate student in this school’s counseling program and I must say that I had the worst experience ever. I was one hour away from graduating, but I was failed by three professors on the board that did not like me. All I did was finish with a 3.5 GPA, complete all my practicum and internship hours, and I completed and submitted my defense portfolio. The worst part of all is that they were allowed to get away with it. Luckily, I was able to attend another school’s marriage and family therapy program to obtain my degree. Thank God I was taught perseverance."

"I am very pleased with the education I was provided at GSU while earning my Master's degree in Occupational Therapy! The professors are very knowledgeable and genuinely care about their students academic and professional success. The program is set up in a way that prepares you for each upcoming fieldwork rotation within the semester. The professors even assisted my classmates and myself in finding a fieldwork placement out of state after expressing interest; GSU's MOT program has numerous fieldwork placement connections throughout the United States. The program is also affordable when comparing to other programs within the state of Illinois. Research is highly emphasized in the program. I highly recommend GSU's Master of Occupational Therapy program!"

"Governors State University delivers a superb education that is instructional and creates an excellent experience to students who are majoring in Psychology and many other majors! The Professors are interested in the students and engaging in terms of academia and excellence in creating the best educational route for students. The successful core curriculum prepared myself for an amazing educational experience. I just recently received my acceptance letter from Adler University, where I will study Clinical Psychology entering a doctoral program ( Psy.D.) designed for Psychologist. This program is accredited by the American Psychological Association and is well known globally. None of this would be possible with it were not for Governors State University, who opened the pathway for me! Thank you so much, I am forever eternally grateful to the Faculty and the admissions department at GSU!"

"I chose GSU because of the tuition, the cheapest one I could find around Chicago. I an say that there were few good professors, but most of them were foreign students few years ago and I barely could understand their English. Not a good place for international students."

"GSU is a good school, and it is great that it is the cheapest university in the state. Having knowledgeable instructors with working experience helped to make me extremely passionate about the field; I was very excited about my career possibilities. My only problem with the Human Resource Management concentration was the lack of resources for students while I was attending. The HR club met once in the 2 years I attended the university; there were no scholarships available to HRM students; and the university did not provide HRM students with internship or career opportunities. This did not seem to be the case for other BA concentrations. (HR and Entrepreneurship were the only concentrations without sections in the career fair in 2013/2014.) I moved out of state shortly after graduation and have not been able to find a career or truly utilize the knowledge I gained here [in a paid position]; my bachelor's degree seems to only afford me administrative assistant positions (and I had 2 years of HR experience prior to completing the program). I would not recommend studying at GSU unless you're planning to stay in IL (specifically the Chicagoland area) or Northwest Indiana. It is, unfortunately, not a university recognized elsewhere, and the network your university has is crucial for your success after graduation. Despite my employment situation, I do truly feel the program made me knowledgeable of business as a whole and of human resource management. I would recommend this school to anyone seeking an adequate and affordable education back home."

"I am only in my 2nd semester in this program. But, thus far I haven't been challenged and I don't think that I have learned much. This might be because a lot of GSU's communication classes are mixed with both graduate and undergraduate students. Although the school is super affordable, I'm only giving it one more semester with this program before I opt to start searching for another school."

"I feel that the pros of my program are that it is simple and quick to complete, more affordable than other programs in other colleges, challenging in terms of coursework, reputable, and convenient in distance. I feel that the cons of my program are that it is limited in concentrations and doesn't allow for more financial aid to be awarded. Other than that, it is GREAT!!!"
