Current chair elsewhere - 8/24/2020

"WOW! What a waste of time and money this university is worse then a university of Phoenix type of school and only cares about robbing you of your money. You will get canned content classes in which they will plug whatever teacher they can find into to run at last minute who is really there to babysit. You get no instruction at all on assignments and all questions are always met with a vague answer that will not answer your questions either. You will really get no relevant information to this profession as I have been working in this profession as a chair at a college for 10 years and would never run or allow a class to be handled so poorly in my department. I have worked at 2 colleges and gone to 3 different colleges and this is the worst excuse for a money pilfering organization I have ever seen or run into in my entire life. Please save yourself some time, frustration and money and not attend here and find a program somewhere else or maybe even read a self help book as that will be more informative then you will get here and much much cheaper. What a joke not sure how they maintain accreditation but that should be pulled as soon as possible."

Doctoral program - NO! - 2/9/2020
Degree: Education
Graduation Year: 2019
"The doctoral program has many problems all at the expense of the student. The promise was a program where you work on your dissertation from day 1, 2 residencies, and completion in 3 years. This is absolutley not what happens. The program has been changed so many times students cannot keep up with the requirements. Approvals are not completed in a timely manner if at all because staff seems to be spread too thin. Additionally, feedback is vague at best. Students are told this is an independent journey but one is totally dependent on the opinion of the reviewers. Very high cost with no little return for your money. Out of 8 people I know that started the doctoral program, all 8 stopped because of the delays and continued cost. To make matters worse, they now require a 3rd residency that was not part of the program and not worth it."

"Absolute garbage. GCU is a total scam. The education they offer is worhtless. They treat teachers and students beneath contempt. All they care about is shoving their sick religious ideas down your throat and cashing your checks. Go to another school. Any other school. Dig ditches. Don't go here."

"Beware of this school online!! My daughter attended Grand Canyon University pursuing an education teaching degree. She suffers from several medical issues. One required hospitalization for several weeks. Even with a doctor’s statement (which they refused to accept) they gave her failing grades for the classes she missed while hospitalized. This destroyed her grade point average. She was not allowed to drop the classes or makeup the work. I would NEVER recommend this school. Anyone can get sick, have an accident or get in a car wreck. If you do, you can kiss your scores goodbye. In what way is this a Christian University."

"I dont understand how every single person I know who attended this school owes money??? I need my transcript and all of a sudden I owe $2000. I have friends that were in my doctoral cohort and they owe $2000. Is that the magic number? I feel ripped off and we all need to file lawsuits with them. This needs public attention because people, we have been taken advantage of. DO NOT ATTEND or you too will owe $2000."

"I was excited to start online classes. When my grandpa got ill and passed away they would not approve enough time off. I got charged for a class I did not take. But today I got an email from them saying they would forgive the money of I came back before Feb 28th. I responded with a few concerns. The response I got was to ignore the email I got because they would not honor it. They did not even address my concerns. They truly only care about money."

"Go to a different school for your Doctorate. This school says Christian but it cares about exploiting students and taking their money. Once they have all your student aid and living and they will make you pay $500.00 every quarter for years trying to complete the program."

"Attending Grand Canyon University has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I started taking classes with GCU as they visited my work. I had a great experience with a very patient recruiter and have found the staff genuinely try their best to help. There are times when it takes a bit for the left hand to understand the right hand's intent, but in general, everyone is sincere in their effort to make the experience successful. I had to take a break in my studies to move and followed my advisor's instructions on how to do it with an email request and a form. I was able to pick up where I left off with my courses and am pleased to say I have completed my "four-year" degree. Christians aren't perfect people, they are just people that know they are loved and want to share love. This program worked well for me as I was working full-time and needed to take one class at a time."

"Grand Canyon U was convenient because I needed to work fill-time while I went to school. The professors were quality and helpful. So were the other staff that helped me achieve my goals. The classes taught me what I needed to know to become an educator. The observation hours helped me see the strategies in action. Great program."
