Independence University

First let me say this to ALL that is reading this post. This is the worst school I ever attended. I graduated in November 2016, this university gave me the run around. When I started at IU they baited me in to make me think, once I finished my life would change. I am in more debt then what I started with! The degree seems as it is neve recognized any where in the universe. I have been back and forth with this school to get assistant with finding a job it is the same bs everytime I call. I have did... Read More the same job search too and the same results. I am saying this school will have you out of money, stress or living on the streets. There was no stipend during time I was there. It was like basically I struggled the entire time in college and I am still struggling now with the degree from this college. I am saying do not go to this school. No time to research this school because your time and money. There is more I would like to say but I will leave it at this!!@

If you were to ask me a year ago about the possibility about going back to school to get an higher education, i probably would of laughed at the idea thinking that it was impossible. But after talking over the phone to the Admission's at Independent University in September it was impossible to let the opportunity fly by me. They made the impossible, possible. I want to make it clear that I do not recommend this school to anyone. Especially not anyone who is attending college for the first time. I made a big mistake by enrolling. CL, if that's even his real name, told me I would have to pay anything and that my financial aid covered everything. Lies!!!!!!!!! They have me signed up for loans I didn't even know I was getting. Loved this school. I never would have finished the traditional route. I received tons of support, help, guidance and great teaching. This degree took me out of my dead-end job into a a management job with an insurance agency. No more working per hour, but a salaried position with benefits. The degree cost more than the local route, but I finished in half the time doing classes from home. No way I would have finished locally in less than 6 years, and this took a little over 2. I am a very proud recent graduate of Independence University where I earned my business degree through hard work. I am also eternally grateful that I did not read all of the reviews prior to enrolling because it could have cost me a great experience. Reviews are personal experiences, with some amount of bias. Read More respect. That is important because it is an online school, thus you do not see the people with whom you've entrusted your educational endeavors. I don't know what the faculty or administrative was like prior to my enrollment, or even what improvements were made. What I do know is that my instructors were all knowledgeable about their subject and experts in their field. During lectures, they were engaged with students. If you have a desire to further your education, this is not a bad place to start. What I've learned, I have already begin applying to my current position. As far as accreditation is concerned, that is something I am not too much concerned about because I am not attempting to transfer my credits to another school once I complete my Masters.

Independence University is a subsidiary of StevensHenager College which is part of a growing whistleblower lawsuit against their Utah-based system of nonprofit colleges and is expected to expand due to a federal judge declining to toss the suit. The career services program had not been off any help or assistance sense I was a graduate in 2016 when I was let go at my current position. I've been jobless sense then and have been calling weekly and emailing weekly begging for career services advisers to help me with my resume, job applications and more. I have to degrees with the school now can't find a job can't even get an interview!!! That's not worth the 80k I paid to get a degree to be sale to have a job and I'm having worse luck finding... To be honest, I have no complaints about the curriculum but the advisors and so called Deans are the absolute WORST!!! They misguide and misinform you all through out the courses. They all have conflicting information and overall you are left to pay the price. They will not let you know if you fail a course or what their academic standards are. They want you to fail overall and as soon as you do they do not want to work with you. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL!!! THEY WANT YOU TO FAIL!!! IF YOU VALUE... Best decision I ever made. Before attending IU I was having a hard time finding a job that would support myself and my family. I had always wanted to work in the medical field, but couldn't even get my foot in the door. From the time I called in to talk to admissions through my graduation the staff and faculty have been amazing. I felt like they really cared about me as a person, not just a number. I began the MBA in September. Let me just note that I have been to several online universities before and always felt a disconnect. You are basically on your own! Not with IU. And if you cannot make the live lectures, they are recorded so you can watch them on your own time. No other online university I have been to does this. It sucks trying to learn from books all the time at other online schools. What's the point? I want interaction! Also, career services is stellar. They reach out to me every month to help me come up with a professional plan for my career. Little by little, I keep adding to my professional portfolio and resume with their help. I do not know of any other school that does that. At the other online school I was attending, I basically had to stalk people to even get a response or answer to anything. No one ever reached out to me. Also, the textbooks are great and are through Cengage, Jossey-Bass, and other really reputable publishing companies. Plus they are all included! No more hassle with expensive books, bookstores, worrying I got the wrong book, worrying if they are going to get here on time, trying to sell them after I am done with the class, etc. IU keeps it simple and high quality. I also really appreciate the student lotteries and raffles they have. Like for example, if I do all my daily checkpoints in a week, I can be put in a raffle for gift cards, etc. It is a lot of fun! I enjoy everything about IU. I highly recommend if you don't want to feel like a number.

I am currently attending this University and have had nothing but a great experience. I the education and the system that they provide it to you with is great. Every new class the information is set out before you and you can see what needs to be completed, Instructors are available for each class almost 24 hours a day, they have a great help system and I have been provided with every contact number and email if I need further help.
