"The program is challenging and currently VetMed as a career choice has issues to work out in the cost of education vs job salary outlook. But if you are set into getting into veterinary medicine, I would highly suggest attending Iowa State!"

"Pros include diversity of faculty areas of interest, collaborative work of students, and social club. Cons include long time to graduate due to some lack of direction."

"This is a PhD program, not a terminal Masters program. The three programs within the psychology department are Counseling, Social, and Cognitive. Pros: Many opportunities to work across programs. 9-month graduate assistantships that are primarily guaranteed every year for every graduate student. Many opportunities to focus on areas that are specific to you eg. research, grant writing, clinical hours, etc. Faculty tend to be supportive of your research interests and try to cater to them. The Counseling program emphasizes cooperation rather than competition (which is a pro for me, though I can see how it would be a con for others) Cons: Some difficulty with specific advisers regarding timeliness, expectations, and attitudes toward students' research. Summer funding is a continual problem, though the program is working on helping alleviate that."

"A con is that there was some restructuring of the school and that has caused some confusion. On the pro side is that there has been a lot of support and conversation about the restructuring and things are moving rapidly towards the positive. I see the program becoming stronger because of this."

"PROS: 1. Excellent opportunities to explore not only your own topics but to see the work done outside your field. 2. Strong encouragement to engage with the local community. No town vs. gown! 3. Friendly environment where strangers will lend a hand without being asked. CONS 1. If you don't own a car you are limited in getting around outside of biking distance. 2. Closest major city is Des Moines which is 50 miles away. 3. When you travel people outside the Midwest can't tell Ohio, Idaho, and Iowa apart!"

"Iowa State University is awesome and I love it. The only issues I see with the school as a whole is the retention rate of incoming undergraduate students. We are admitting so many students who end up leaving from lack of support, the campus life, grades, or what not. That needs to change."

"Iowa State is a school that values the sciences, and while most of the money goes into our well-known engineering and math departments, the professors in the English department represent some of the best I have worked with. They value the students, and they work with me in all my writing assignments to make papers that are worthy of publication. Of course, Iowa State is a beautiful campus, but it is really the people who I have the privilege to study under and work with, who make the campus as beautiful as it is."

"They could make better use of their technology! Workload is at some times unbearable. I would like to see more hands-on experience in the class room. Activities outside of the classroom and school are great! Professors seem to be very helpful!"

"The graduate program in Science Education (MS) is great for students who are interested in becoming researchers within science education. The program is rigorous and will prepare the student to be well rounded in pedagogy, research techniques, data collection, writing, and the nature of science."

"The education program at this college (especially for preservice teachers) is subpar. There is a lot of breadth, but no depth to the courses. In addition, the faculty/staff are some of the most unsupportive people I've ever met in my life...they act like your questions are an intrusion on their research time. There are other programs at ISU that are fantastic, but if you're looking for a great ed program, look elsewhere."

"Most students in the structural engineering program went to undergrad at Iowa State, so the professors teach their classes as an extension of the undergrad equivalent. Students who went to other institutions can feel lost."

"Iowa State has connections with many corporate sponsors which allows them to have state of the art research facilities. There is a lot of cooperation between departments which allows students whose research interests fall between areas to have mixed committees or to co-major."
