Overall, I have had a relatively smooth program at Kaplan. Some of the classes are too easy but most deliver decent and useful information. I have only had some minor problems with changes to the experiential learning credits but hoped that has been resolved. In general the learning advisors are simply point of sale contacts with little or no power to assist. Any serious problems should be directed to the Dean of students. Overall the program is easily followed but I agree with all others that it is pricey
Kaplan University is a great choice for anyone looking for a quality and challenging education that will work around your schedule. I have been a student for two years now and and I am loving every minute of it. The school gives me the freedom to take care of my family and work on my education at times that are convenient for me. The university also gives me all of the tools that I need to succeed, the audio seminars are great and the writing and math centers are very helpful as well. I have had nothing but a positive experience with Kaplan.
I completed both my undergrad and graduate degree in criminal justice from Kaplan University. I could not be any happier with my experience there.
My classes were very well interesting and challenging. At some points I felt that the work was a little harder than it actually was, but when speaking to my instructors, they would point me in the right direction. The instructors were all professionals in the criminal justice field and very knowledgable. They added their veiws and expertise to the topics being studied.
I went to school while working full time. I also was put on bed rest during my pregnancy & was very worried about getting behind as I was not always able to do my work. My proffesors were wonderful and worked with my through my difficult time.
In January, I will be walking in my graduation ceromony. I am proud to say that I finished my Masters Degree in Criminal Justice with a 4.0. I am the first in my family to graduate college and can not be any more proud of my accomplishments.
I believe in the power of education no matter where you can find it. Have I had troubles or concerning issues with Kaplan University? Yes, most definitely. Did I let that stop me? No. It is my belief that no matter what school you go to there will be some issues that come up. Some good, some bad. There is no one college or educational institution that is perfect in every single way. I found Kaplan (an accreditted school) through a very thorough, secure, and specific website. Had it not been for that I would have ended up NOT choosing Kaplan. I can safely say that, while I had a couple of small issues and a couple of bad ones, going to Kaplan was well worth my time...even for a single mother of 3 at the time. A lot of people have spoken about Kaplan and how expensive they are. I will agree that they are a bit on the pricey side. However, the classes are geared and shaped around each program (such as their Criminal Justice program of which I graduated from). Everyone is given enough time (1 week) to get all of their assignments turned in (including posting to the discussion boards, attending the weekly seminars, and any out-side-the-classroom homework). Anyone can go back to school. All you need is patience, a sense of priority, and the ability to organize your time. If a single mother can do it, then just about anyone on this planet can do it.
I have attended Kaplan for 3 semester and two of them was a problem on my 4th semester I am finally withdrawing.
I am trying to get to my financial aid for the last 3 days. i was on the phone for about 7 hours. I finally got someone and he is telling he can not tell me what my obligations are If I withdraw early. He told me to speak with my adviser. Funny thing is my adviser told me to speak with financial aid.
This school is a total mess and I think it is even a scam to cheat people out of their dream. They are horrible to deal with.
They have 3 departments to turn your life to hell.Student account, Financial Aid, Academic adviser and all of them there to just give you hard time and pass the responsibility to next guy.
When you ask for a manager or supervisor their answer is same "I am the manager"
Horrible school, Horrible support. I decided to go to traditional school.
Kaplan allows a student to mold school around their personality and needs. You can take many courses or just one, do them in the morning or at night, and you don't have to rush around doing homework all the time. They have a great support staff as well.
The courses are set up so that you can work on your own time. There is a one hour seminar per week to attend and they have an 'option 2' setup designed for people who cannot attend the live seminar. The classes are less about regurgitation of facts and more about how to use what you learned in a real life scenario.
We are taught to do online research, how to quote, how to cite information, and how to use published information to help bolster your own original ideas. The professors are available- you can email or IM them and answers come more quickly than at a traditional school! I have had good and bad professors, it depends on the person, but the experience as a whole so far has been great!
Kaplan University is the right choice for you if you are looking for a low workload and great professors. I am in the BS Psychology program, and I love every minute of it, especially being able to go to school from the comfort of my home and still being able to save money and spend time with my family, as my husband is a US Soldier and is deployed frequetlyexalted Th.
I attended Kaplan for Medical Office Management for 3 weeks and it was a bunch of bull. The classes always had technical issues, that never seemed to be resolved. I asked for a due date during class and the question remained unanswered. So, I emailed the teacher and she got back to me a week later, 2 days after the paper was due. Then proceeded to tell me that it was my fault I didn't have the date right becasue I didn't ask. This school is not worth the $32,000+change they charge.
I attended Kaplan in january 2007 and ended up finishing my Bachelor's of Science in November 2008. I transferred fromt he Univeristy of Phoenix because I did not like the "group work" format. Kaplan helped me with financial aid even though I still had loans originating through Phoenix. I found all of the instructors helpful and the work really was refreshing. I felt the assignments helped give you a better understanding of what you were learning.
I did not do any group work at Kaplan which to me showed that they were focused on what I coul ddo, not what I could do in a group. So I would recommend this school to anyone who really wants an education and you will get it here!
