Great school built on excellent standards. I attended longer than I hoped because of starting a family and career but am so glad I went back and finished. I loved convocations while on campus. Professors are of high standards. Campus is truly amazing and we'll managed. Leadership is phenomenal.
To all veterans: Stay away from Liberty online. I attended two different online universities during my time toward my bachelors degree. As a former US Army solider and current veteran, I can honestly say that Liberty is basically a "for profit" university under the disguise of a Christian name. Liberty assignments are much too easy, professors are adjuncts (which means they are really not real professors and spend very little time interacting with students), and the school has a massive recruitment agenda to try to enroll as many students as possible (think University of Phoenix). (The admissions center itself is the size of a basketball arena on campus). Most, if not all of my graded assignments could be found online by simple "google searches." Also, I found real hardship using my degree after graduation, and finished with 20K of debt, and no real prospects of using the degree. After two years there, it basically feels like a waste of time and effort. Really, any growth on campus at Liberty has been financed by online learning. The only reason, I humbly believe, that Liberty has grown is because Christian students are looking for an alternative to other secular universities, while studying online. The only difference between Liberty and Phoenix is that Liberty claims to be christian. You would be better served going to an online university someplace else, where the accreditation is stronger with a better image globally.
Do your research and choose wisely and here is not it. I can tell you of 2 professor that seemed to actually care. The rest my enemies are friendlier. Most jobs laugh at your degree from here, still no work after 1 year of graduating. Looking to go back to school but it will not be here. I will not even go into their financial department when dealing with the VA. All they want is numbers and money that is all.
I'm about to enter my final semester here at LU; and will be receiving my bachelors when it's finished, I've already received an AA. The school is pretty easy if you can follow directions and know how to write a paper with proper formatting. Sure there's a learning curve, but once you figure it out, everything else will fall into place. I most definitely will be going for a Masters here at LU.
I am a surprised at the negativity regarding Liberty. One person complained because worksheets did not follow the reading exactly. For others who may find this concerning keep in mind that this is college, not high school, and critical thinking is expected. If you cannot read the material and explain it in your own words while including your own thoughts on the topic, then you need a community college that expects rote learning, not a university. I earned a B. S. in Psychology at Liberty and took all classes online. Before choosing an online program, make sure that you are willing to do the work required. Liberty's psychology program provides video lectures as well as reading and writing assignments. Liberty professors are always available to answer questions via email or telephone. If you have a personal issue, such as the woman who said she was suspended after giving birth, you only need to keep your professors informed and you will be given extra time to complete assignments. I went through a divorce and moved out of state at the beginning of a semester. I notified my professors in advance of the move and advised that it would take a few days before I would have internet access at my new address--all the professors were gracious and allowed extra time for me to complete and submit assignments due to my circumstances. Liberty offers tutoring for English as a second language students or those who have difficulty with sentence structure in general. Students who have difficulty understanding APA or other required writing styles can submit their papers for review and help through the writing lab. I am multiracial and never experienced discrimination of any type at Liberty. Psychology students working on a Bachelor's degree will complete an internship. The student must find his or her own internship site and I appreciated that. Some students completed internships at daycares, working with church groups, etc. I completed my internship at a Crisis Mental Health Hospital. The internship is an excellent opportunity to put into practice what has been learned. Liberty is a non-profit school with a good reputation. In addition to a quality education, they have one of the lowest tuition fees in the U. S. The school is active in the community and has a supervised home for unwed and pregnant teens. They counsel these young women and if the mother chooses to put her child up for adoption, Liberty staff assists the mother with adoption. If the mother chooses to keep the child, they assist in helping the young woman find work, suitable housing, childcare, etc. While at the home at Liberty, the girls are given high school classes and if they do well they are provided a two year scholarship to attend the university upon graduation. Everyone I know who has graduated from Liberty with a decent GPA has found work suitable to their degree. If you are considering Liberty, call them and ask questions. There is an equal distribution of secular and Christian material within classes and the residential and online campuses are culturally diverse. I was impressed enough to return to Liberty and am currently working toward a Master's.
Beware of Liberty University I have attended many Universities but this school is very unfair and very discriminating to their online students. it is my belief that I was treated unethical because of my class introduction and my rank in life. My professor, at the beginning had a lot to say about my class introduction and her comments made me feel that my advisers had placed me in the wrong program… My professor gave me a very hard time she contantly made me feel as if I had no right to make an attempt to improve myself she constantly sent emails that was very hurtful. Now these emails were causing me to lose focus, messed with my mind. Now I’ve been an online as well as taken many classes face to face and I have never been treated so badly. This is how it all started, during my very first week of the course we had to summarize an article and write a summery, but we had to also submit our article with our paper. At first I had submitted my summary, but then I remembered that I was supposed to have submitted my article that I pulled my ideas to write about so I contacted my professor and told her that I had forgotten to download my article with my paper. The professor deleted my original paper so I can download my article so I made the mistake of downloading the wrong paper which was my fault with the article. Furthermore, I forgot that I can download my original paper for work which means that I had downloaded a draft from my home computer and this draft contained the ideas that I had copied and paste from my article that I used to write the summary. This paper wasn’t due until Sunday night this was only Wednesday because the professor had grade that paper right after it was downloaded and gave me a zero and reported me as being a plagiarizer with in the same day. What I could not understand was how this was happening so fast and the class had just begun. I log in and viewed my summary in my haste I downloaded the wrong paper, however it was a draft and I had several drafts on my home computer, but I did not complete my summary until I was at work which means that my original paper was saved on my computer at work. Please understand me I was wrong and it was my mistake and I contacted my professor to allow her to know that I had downloaded the wrong paper, but she stated that she was going to have to report me and may even bring me up on charges. So after several attempts to reach me advisor to find out what I was suppose to do and get some advice because all of my years of attending Universities I have never been through anything like this. Actually, I did not know what to do or how to talk with about this situation. I sent emails to my adviser and even sent my work phone numbers because I wasn’t at home to speak with my adviser, but never heard anything from him because I did not know what to do. After not hearing anything from my adviser, I sent him an email asking him to get me out of this class “meaning” switch me to another class because I did not feel that I was going to be treated fair and this is money that I borrowed to go to school and have to repay I don’t have time for professor that have formed wrong opinions and this can happen because professors are humans as well and they can make mistakes also. My adviser withdrew me out of the Whole course without even speaking to every time I made an attempt to speak with him he was available. So I end up speaking with a lady that was an adviser and I told her what had happened to me and she stated that I had been dropped from the course and it wasn’t anything I could do about and I was going to owe the school money unless I resend the withdrawal and get back into school that would be the only way I could fight the fabrications that was placed on me. So I resented the withdrawal and within 24 hours was placed back into my class. The professor had failed me for the first week and the second week has been just like the first week constantly talking points from me she even add my introduction to the bottom of my paper and graded that along with my seconded article summary for the 2nd week after being reinstated in the class. So I made an attempt to call her, but could not reach the professor and I sent the professor an email asking why was I losing so many points I just was reinstated back into the course she stated that she had to do because the advisory told her to do this for any work that I missed. The only work that I had missed was a quiz and I was one day late completing that. After being reinstated in my course I caught up all of my work. The professor would constantly find fault in everything and these actions made me nervous and fearful on completing my assignments online. So I began to make simple mistakes that I would not ordinarily do, I was afraid to read the professor comments, but I knew that it was something I had to do to complete this course. Before we could get to the end of the course the professor was telling me that I wasn’t going to pass and she kept me at a very low grade at one point I was raising my grade after doing one assignment, she would take 12 points from me if I got one thing wrong and say that this answer wrong cost me 12 points she did this to me several times. And everything I question her, she stated this is what she was told to do with the lady the resent my withdrawal. Finally, at the end of the course she failed my final exam and I know for a fact that I did not fail my final exam because I followed the format of what I was suppose to do and what our text books stated. Furthermore, I did my observation and test of my students and submitted work to my professor and I completed my 22 page report and submitted it to livetext. I knew my way round my online class found my paper and did everything I was asked to do and my professor sent me an email and told me she was going to fail me and but she will be happy to register me for the class again. I was suppose to receive my certificate with this graduation class and now I don’t when I will receive it and the advisories stated that I was going to have to pay $3600 dollars to retake the course over. I don’t have this type of money to pay liberty for a course that I never failed. It was as thought my professor wanted me to know all that was in that course without help if this was true I wouldn’t need to go back to school. Now my gradual failure and plagiarizer were two different situations. Now Liberty Online support is supposed to be appealing my grade, it has been almost four weeks and I haven’t heard anything and probably never will. If you are looking for a university that cares about you as a human being please don’t choose Liberty University.
I attended Liberty online for 13 months while pursuing a Masters degree. I first attended University in the 1970' and 1980's when I received a BA English and an MBA from the University of Texas and the University of North Texas. What I found at Liberty was a significant difference in teaching methodology, which one would expect after nearly 40 years. With online courses, the impetus is on the student to independently complete the reading and the assigned papers and other homework - and, there is a lot of reading to be done. It required a big shift on my part to realize that if I was going to learn anything, it would be up to me as there is very little interaction with instructors. Overall, it was a great learning opportunity for me and I enjoyed the experience. Also, because it was fast paced, there was no need to take longer than necessary to accomplish the requisite goals and finish. I really like the school and the approach. May not be for everyone, especially if you are used to a lot of interaction with the professors or do not have the time to do all the reading on time.
This University makes a lot of promises with no follow through. There is very limited interaction with the professors. The only people you can talk to via phone are the academic advisors and they can't answer the majority of the questions. The other departments force you to email them, even when you need an answer right away. It is typical to not get responses to emails for days at a time. I am an independent learner and found the majority of the classes informative. Yes, there is a lot of reading and writing involved; however, I learned well. However, when I got to the point in the program in which I needed contact with their staff to complete the process, I was left without help. I know they claim to be non-profit; however, it seems the main focus is getting the tuition money and leaving the student high and dry.
I found Liberty University while doing my research on going back to school. I have not been to school since 97, so when I found this program I was excited to be attending a school where Christ was incorporated into my studies. Let me just say that if you are not good at doing alot of reading with miminal teacher interaction then this school is not for you. Each semester my professors assigned chapters, and chapters of reading, with no discussion, videos or anything to follow up with. When they gave worksheets to follow along they were never worksheets that followed the reading exactly, you had to hunt and find, and assume answers. I am not the type of person that can learn that way so I didnt do well. Also academic advising is ok depending on who you get on the phone. I was put on suspension after I had my daughter and could no longer keep up. I tried appealing the decision they flat out denied me. I was very frustrated and discouraged, because I really want to finish my degree. They told me in order for them to reinstate my financial aid I had to pay for a semester out of pocket, which is $3000. Who has that just laying around. Now I am forced to look into other universities and possiblily start over.
I am a retired Army Vet of 22 years service to my country and a Lt at the state Dept of Corrections, I applied to LU after some research when a school I was attended was charging me and the VA, double dipping. Everything was going great until my I took the Lt position at another prison and was put on 2p-10p shift, moved, and my wife got terribly ill. I had received 60+ credit hours for all my work in the military and the DOC and was just under 2 years into my studies when this all happen and I fell behind for one and a half 5 1/2 week course and was put on academic suspension, while still taking my money and then told that I was on a suspension and would not be allowed to re-enroll for 2 years. I tried everything I could to have that reversed, to no avail. I understand with my GI bill i have to maintain a certain GPA to receive the grant and since the school could not receive my VA benefits I believe they then decided to suspend me. I feel as if nothing was done to help me be able to continue at LU and finish my degree considering I was not that far from my degree, only a small fraction of hours were needed to complete it. I had to enroll into another degree program at a different college that offers on line degree program in my field and lost several hours of work because I was not awarded the same amount of credit hours from my training and schooling with my job in the military and my current job in the state DOC. I basically started over with the same credit hours i was awarded with to start with at LU. But, this is important to me and also my wife. We want to help victims of Human Trafficking and I need to continue my education in CJ with concentration on cyber crimes in order to do that. So I started over with another University because I will still have it completed and graduate before I would be allowed to re-enroll in LU. I am a United States Veteran and feel I was not afforded the opportunities at this school to help during my time of need, it is a Christian college and to me I believe the Lord helps those who are in need but this school sure does not. They just want your money. Maybe actually going to the university is a different experience than the online studies. I heard and read great things about this school, but thinking back most were from students enrolled at the actual university, not online. I guess us online students are not that important to Liberty when you have a financial issue.
