"Marshall University is an excellent school. The professors have an aptitude for helping their students succeed, as well as a strong desire to watch each of them grow. As a social work graduate, I have to strongly recommend the program; I cannot stress how satisfied I was the entire time with the program, the professors, and the students."

"Marshall University has a small Social Work program, and for the most part, very dedicated staff and faculty. They do their very best to provide students with the tools and resources to complete the program successfully. With the program being so small, it can be difficult to receive adequate resources from the university itself, but this program is a tight knit community that loves and helps its students."

"I adored my experience at Marshall University. In the four years I was there, I was able to work on professional level shows while learning behind the scenes from teachers that truly were experts in their fields. In my extracurricular classes, I was always in a class that interested me, and I genuinely found professors that ignited my passion for their class. The campus is beautiful and really open for any type of person to be themselves at. Truly a wonderful university."

"I felt the program at Marshall prepared me for my career in nursing. The financial assistance was great and the staff very helpful in navigating the financial aid system. The classes were challenging but attainable. The diversity in scheduling of classes was also helpful."

"My experience at Marshall University was phenomenal! I was struggling academically at a previous college, but the transition to MU was extremely simple and they honored military credits that were not accepted in the previous school. The professors in the business program were ready to help the students succeed."

"Marshall is a decent school with several really great departments. Its campus is walkable, accessible to town, and attractive. For in-state students especially, Marshall is affordable and a good value for the money. I really enjoyed the College of Liberal Arts but I know that the business and science/engineering departments have been growing and are highly regarded. For me, the biggest draw are Marshall was the Yeager Scholars program and others like it. They've now expanded to include an entire Honors College. These programs provide financial aid, study abroad opportunities, and the ability to customize your college experience with small class sizes and interesting seminars - all within the wider campus."

"The faculty, at least in the History department, was student centered and exacting with high expectations. The facilities, library services especially, helped to get a great deal of work done well"

  • Degree: English
"Completing the English M.A. program at Marshall University was one of the toughest, but best experiences of my life. The faculty of the program are overly thoughtful and helpful, always providing more opportunity to enhance one's experience, education, and resume, while teaching students how to market themselves and their skills for their desired job positions. Not only did I learn much about my personal interests within the study of English, but through my graduate assistant position I also had the opportunity to teach and tutor students outside the humanities who benefited greatly from my knowledge of writing conventions across disciplines. This program helped me see the professional I wish to be, and I will be forever grateful for the confidence, skills and knowledge I acquired as an English M.A. student at Marshall University."

"Excellent school for athletic oriented programs, however severely lacking in funding for science based curricula. The university does an excellent job at giving students the full college experience, however it does poorly at preparing students for entry into the job market."

"Marshall was a good school that prepared me for doctoral studies. It also allowed me the opportunity to earn my degree while working full time. The faculty took an interest in the students."

"Marshall University provided a good college experience. The biology program was very manageable and fair, and the faculty in charge were friendly and available for assistance. The program was robust enough to provide me a good background for going into medical school, and flexible enough to allow a relevant shadowing experience as a capstone project instead of a research paper."

  • Degree: Healthcare Informatics
"The health informatics program is the best in the nation. I would advise anyone who is not a local to read review boards on the culture of the area and school. I would also advise staying professional and watching what you do and say. The community is small so you may feel as if you are always vein watched if you are not from the local area. That being said the program has great value and the cost is very reasonable compared to other graduate programs. You will learn the skills needed to excel in your career. I would focus on making your own waves and finding your own networking opportunities. Opportunities exist in the program but there are strings that may offend you. Concentrate on the curriculum and you'll be good to go."

"I am in the Doctor of Management Practice in Nurse Anesthesia program at Marshall University and Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) School of Nurse Anesthesia. This is a great program that prepares you to be a nurse anesthetist and an entrepreneur. This blended program is great. You get the nurse anesthesia instruction from CAMC and the business instruction from Marshall University. The staff is very helpful and everyone I have encountered has been friendly and welcoming. The curriculum is very rigorous but you will be prepared to work independently immediately after graduation. The passing rate for boards is 96% and 100% of prior graduates are employed in the field. The financial aid department is very willing to help you figure out the best plan for your situation which is very helpful. The Charleston area is nice and that's a plus. You get the benefits of being in a city without the city cost of living. A low cost of living is so important in grad school. I would recommend the Nurse Anesthetist program at Marshall University/CAMC without hesitation!"

"Relatively small cohort in one of the larger departments in the College of Liberal Arts. The classrooms that you will use as a history major are very dated, with the exception of the seminar room. Most faculty are friendly, helpful, and will forge a personal relationship with you if make the effort to attend class and show an interest in your work. Most classes were not particularly challenging. The sophomore and senior capstones are engaging and expose students to the skills that historians will utilize in graduate school and in their job. The university alumni base is relatively small and scattered once you leave the Huntington area, in some areas of West Virginia it is nearly nonexistent. The campus is easily walkable and although it is compact, it feels much larger and far removed from the surrounding area once you are inside and can not see the rest of the city. Huntington is a depressed area and the college is near a bad part of town, but the campus is safe."

"Marshall University School of Pharmacy is relatively new, and sometimes it shows. The program is under great guidance; however, it is constantly changing. The changes, which are good and bad, add stress to the students. Once the program figures everything else, it'll be a great program."

"Marshall University School of Pharmacy uses the flip classroom setting, which revolves around pre-work and class discussion. This type of learning is both a pro and a con. It's beneficial for becoming a better team member, which is becoming a crucial part of healthcare, but at the same time it is hard to gauge how much you are learning compared to the traditional class room"
