"The program is small, but personable. The professors care about your progress personally as well as professionally. They are also very willing to provide any necessary resources when they are requested."

"Pros My school and program is competitive as it pertains to chemical engineering The cost of living in the surrounding area is affordable The faculty are helpful, knowledgeable and challenge me The financial aid is appropriate Cons: It is incredibly difficult to get an internship as my PhD advisor is not open to me or my fellow grad students (within our research group) doing one. Securing an internship may be crucial regarding job prospects upon graduation. As my PhD comes to a close, obtaining a job upon graduation takes up more and more of my thought life."

"The landscape architecture program has an amazing relationship with local professionals. They come to our critiques, invite us to their offices, and regularly provide feedback. Not to mention they give internships and hire graduates. The College of Design has great technological resources (just today I used the photography studio to record a video in front of the green screen with a professional camera checked out from the IT lab and then recored audio in the sound studio) and the scientific expertise across the university provides a knowledge base beyond the standard design school. I picked this school because it was my most affordable option but now I am so glad I'm here."

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my first semester at NC State's Computer Science program. The classes are captivating and the professor's are active in the community. The program is large so there are plenty of research opportunities, creating a diverse environment in computer science itself. The quality of student is high, as most students are very interested in their studies and especially enjoy pursuing their research. There's plenty to do in Raleigh and the greater triangle area. All in all NC State is a great school."

"Lack of diversity is my biggest issue. Generally very supportive faculty, although this definitely depends on your specific program area within the department."

"I'm really enjoying my first semester here. The professors are really intelligent and helpful. They're also always available to speak with concerning schoolwork or life in general. My program is relatively small, so I've quickly found some great friends within the program. Downtown Raleigh is a cool place - but it's also filled with construction (typical for a city). Renting off-campus can be tricky - don't get me wrong, there are some fabulous apartments, but don't expect to be able to afford it on a teaching assistant's budget. Overall, I'm pretty happy I chose to come to NCSU for my Master's. I recommend it!"

"The department is strong in engineering related aspect. This is an engineering university anyway. The theoretical community here is not as strong as the engineering."

"Can't say enough great things about the MFA program at NC State -- in fact, I'm totally amazed at how little publicity it has in the MFA program "hierarchy." The funding situation, other than semesterly student fees, is great (first year no teaching with a semester of training; second year 1:2 workload). The faculty is stellar. The workload is appropriately challenging. The calibre of the candidates is phenomenal, and everyone (in my experience) gets along really well and spends a lot of time working together and hanging out. The access to Duke and UNC is a bonus, too, plus all the publishing houses in the Triangle. Only two real downsides: NC residency requirements are pretty cumbersome, and the program is only 2 years. Still well-worth giving up the 3rd year other programs offer, all things considered. Overall, though, this place should be ranked up there with all the big-name programs, and honestly probably ahead of many of them."

"A great school with a fantastic location (cost of living is fantastic compared to cities with comparable schools); be aware of research field you're entering and choose wisely. The school also provides a very good career center, although limited support time once you graduate."
