Post University Reviews of Master's in Human Services

The problem I have with Post is with the financial aid department. I have had several financial aid advisers and none of them seem to know who I am and what is going on with my account. I receive financial aid from an outside agency set up through FAFSA. I ask the financial aid department at the beginning of every module how my aid is and if there are any problems. The answer has always been no. Then at the end of my degree they email me that I owe them $12,000 dollars. I suppose they expect me to... Read More write them a check. I do not know what this debt is for and do not intend on paying it. I informed them that I owe one financial group and if they did not get their money from them they in trouble. No business can be run by not sending accurate timely statements (or statements at all). If you study at this school all you are doing is working with a poorly functioning computer program and ill advised financial aid managers. They have blocked me from even looking at my transcripts.

I am revising my initial review of Post University. I started graduate school at Post University and I am very disappointed with the professionalism of the school. The professor/instructors like to hid behind their titles (i.e. doctor/PhD) and think that matters in some way. The school is for profit. The instructors think they can grade any way they want. The course requirements and Rubrics state what is graded and how the curriculum is graded. The instructors like to disregard the Rubrics and grade... Read More on their own accord. The Human Services department has a buddy system in their department starting with K. B. . If this school and its instructors keep playing with my grades, they will regret it all the way to the Department of Education. I will drag Dr. M.  through it too. Reviews matter as well. I will probably revise this posting at some point and start name dropping some people. BTW, the Post U bookstore opened August 8, 2016. Classes began on August 29, 2016, but did not load the required books for the class until August 30, 2016.

I am currently enrolled in my first graduate class and now going into week 3. Let me tell you honestly that this university is the worst I've attended. The professor currently teaching the Lifespan class is horrible. She is pompous, condescending and expects her students to learn on her level (SHE has a PhD by the way). She does not give proper credit for work but instead picks it apart looking for APA formatting errors and bases your grade on that. What a joke! I can't wait to get the hell out of... I was new to Post University but no stranger to Online Education, and had already obtained a Masters from another University, however this by far was my worst experience. I found some of the instructors to be condescending and sarcastic at times. The financial aid department is not the best, and the layout of the courses were not as structured as I would like. Course content was very detailed this is the one positive, but the delivery of course material by the instructors was not. In previous settings... Read More students were automatically enrolled into courses, and there was never a question of enrollment numbers and courses were not cancelled. There were times I would email my academic adviser and would not receive a response (not even an out of office reply) for well over a week. I was very unhappy with Post and withdrawing was the best decision I made.

I will be graduating shortly, and can say that Post Univ. instruction is high quality and very challenging. The professors are very helpful and supportive and very knowledgeable in their field. The only problem has been with the student loan program where there always seems to be some confusion. They control how much of a refund you get, keeping it as low as possible, and they offer absolutely no support. You advisor will never offer any support especially if you are not failing. They are also helpless... Read More when it comes to helping with locating internships outside of Conn. You are on your own, and they don't care if you get an internship, they just start treating you as though you have left the program without even contacting you to see how you are progressing in your internship search. Good quality education from highly qualified and skilled professors, but you cannot bank on the school's their support.

I enjoyed Post for the first few years I was there. Now it seems as if they are trying to get rid of me. They are assigning grades that are funny they are so low. I actually received a 10 out of a possible 100 last week for a discussion board! I didn't know you could get a 10 unless you just didn't hand in any work. I thought it was a mistake so I wrote the teacher who told me she thought I was trying to get my future clients to like me. A 90 point deduction for liking me? I admit I'm not the greatest... Read More guy in the world but I shouldn't be charged 90 points for letting anyone like me. The school has now started having people turn in here first db by Wednesday along with discussions of two other's work. Online school used to be about people being able to work while in class. All I have learned in the last few classes is how much I hate turning in work there. I am transferring to finish my degree because Post demands that you perform a field practicum for each concentration that you take. I do not live in CT nor do I want to. They do not help you at all in finding the sites where you can perform these practicums but won't let you graduate without them. I found three sites and asked for them to be approved by Post, but they were all turned down. I wasn't told about these practicums and they do not give the online students a catalogue to work from. I have had four different advisors since I have been there as well. Do yourself a favor and either go to a "brick and mortar" school or look for state schools who are starting to have online schools.

I started the Masters in Human Services program 5 years ago (took a year off) and just about to graduate. It was definitely a mistake in going to this school. The first several years were great. The professors were really helpful and in touch with students, set reasonable expectations and challenged the students. They worry more about logging in and counting number of discussion board posts rather than quality. They also tell you that grades can not be appealed, or extensions on class work will not be approved, so don't even think about asking. You feel like you are being treated like a Kindergartner -- and if you protest, it results in lower grades. They make strict requirements on how you may communicate with them -- only by email and only by phone as a last resort. Worse, they make up their own rules for conducting the class that go against University guidelines. I found out too late in the game that this is a for-profit school and they care more about charging students very pricey fees -- for not a lot of support. DO NOT GO HERE for a Masters in Human Services Program. Consider Northwestern University, as I am kicking myself for not applying their sooner.

Yes -- Human Services is essentially social work -- and I love this field.

Choose your field wisely -- preferably a high growth area -- and try to be flexible in geographical areas for the most promising hiring opportunities.
