"I'm about 2/3 of the way finished with Purdue's online MS in Communication program. In all, I'd say I'm pretty pleased with it. The instructors are very smart and thoughtful -- although be mindful that it's not the same faculty that they have on-campus, as they've advertised in their marketing of the program. That said, I've been very happy with the quality of the instructors overall. The degree requires a good deal of work, but it's really fulfilling and, for the most, relevant to my current career in marketing/PR. One huge plus about the program is the structure. You only take one, 8-week, intensive class at a time. From a work/school balance standpoint, it's a great system. My only complaint would be that the technology they use for the degree isn't always great. They require students to use video presentation software that, frankly, doesn't even work. So expect hours of headaches every single time you need to present material to your classmates. Great program otherwise!"

"Well-run state school. Great degrees in the sciences and business. Less useful for pure creative arts. Very conservative, for a college, but has decent gender diversity."

"Many wonderful resources and very engaged student body. Many opportunities to work on interesting projects. The quality of the program can really depend on the major professor and funding source. The city itself is dreadful with very few cultural resources."

"The program is very competitive which keeps you on your toes all the time. Highly qualified professors teaching high quality stuff. Although, good researchers may not necessarily be good teachers which is evident in some of the classes."

"Purdue itself is a pretty good school. It is well ranked in Chemistry. There is an excellent support staff and for the most part the faculty wish to see all students succeed. Lafayette, however, is kind of awful. Besides there being nothing to do, there is never ending road construction made worse by terrible drivers. Overall it is a not so great city in a not so great state."

"The Analytical Chemistry program at Purdue is top-notch. Cost of living in West Lafayette/Lafayette also makes it a very attractive program compared to other graduate programs. However, the department could do more in terms of professional development and helping students to seek jobs."

"The environment here is a very supportive and friendly one, in which there is not a large sense of competitiveness though we are all still held to high standards."

"Pros: - Great reputation, lots of very well-respected faculty in every division, not just Analytical and Organic. Well-funded labs for the most part. - Very good record of job placement. Pretty much everyone who graduates has found a meaningful career either in industry, academia, and other fields - Lots of other grad students and people to meet. - West Lafayette is very affordable, and your stipend will go far. - Good basketball team Cons: - Rigorous. You will be thrown into the mix with TAing and cumes. However, you'll have plenty of support along the way and most people make it through unscathed. But keep in mind that most top-notch programs are tough like this. - If you didn't grow up in the Midwest like I did, the climate may be a bit of a change for you. - No lab rotations, there is a thesis interview process but it's mainly on you to reach out and shadow labs that you want to join. Some people may or may not like that, - Sub-par football team"

"I am a first year grad student in the Chemistry department at Purdue University. I have been very happy with my decision to attend Purdue University for my graduate degree in Chemistry. They have a competitive program that provides great opportunities for research that is cutting edge. There are plenty of professors available to help in any area you need and there is sure to be a topic of interest for research for everyone. I would definitely recommend the program for any one interested in pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry!"

"Purdue University provides a great education for chemistry graduates. Most classes are incredibly challenging but fair, professors are willing to collaborate with one-another, and overall instruments are quite accessible during your research (even if other labs own them). Unfortunately, the surrounding area is not so appealing. Lafayette has a very high crime rate, and there is virtually nothing in the form of entertainment around here. Expect your life to become quite boring for the next 5 years if you choose to go to school here."

"Purdue University has the vibe of an All-American school from the movies. The red brick buildings serve as a backdrop to rigorous engineering academics and the frenzy of school spirit on game days. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Boiler up!"
