"One of the best things about my graduate program is that I feel as though I am really getting a quality education. I will be prepared to take on an occupation in my field once I graduate. Additionally, I think the people with whom I work are great. I have made lifelong friends in this program. A downfall of this program is the workload. I expected a high workload in this program, but not like the one I am experiencing. Often I find myself working crazy hours. Overall, I would say that Radford's graduate program for Communication Sciences and Disorders is a positive one!"

"This program is fairly week; I am the only Music Performance graduate student. The School has a very strong Music Therapy Program, and should put their efforts into that; they aren't quite sure what they want to be. The majority of the faculty are not at the top of their fields."

"The pros of Radford University's physical therapy program are that it is separate from all other programs because it is out of Roanoke, it is actually in a hospital where you are able to go to other floors and observe with permission on your own time, the faculty is usually always available, and with a smaller class size, it is easy for the professors to give individual attention. The cons are that since it is apart from campus, there is a lot of driving and spending money on gas, there is no on campus housing, and the costs of renting an apartment in Roanoke is higher than other areas in Southwest Va."

"I love the accessibility of the faculty and the quality of the education. However, the school is located in a very rural setting with a limited social scene. However, this also means plenty of great hiking!"

  • Degree: Counseling
"Radford University's Counselor Education is a CACREP accredited program. It provides the students with a lot of experiential learning starting with the 1st semester of the 1st year. The students also have to complete 2 internships at different sites. These internships count towards the hours requires for an LCP. The professors are amazing! A lot of them have been published in prestigious counseling journals, presented at many conferences (both US and international), and are pioneers in new fields of research (integrated care). The student-faculty ratio is also great and students can get individual attention both in and out of classroom. Unfortunately, Radford University is fairly unknown to the public outside the area of the southern states. It should be more "popular". I believe this is its only con."

"The best thing about this program is the faculty. They are outstanding. Mind you, I'm not without a complaint or two, but all in all, if I had a secret laboratory where I could build my own perfect professor, I'd crank out copies of these people. They make every topic relevant and interesting, explain things clearly, take an interest in the individual student, and grade strictly but fairly. They are a good student's dream, and ideal for struggling students as well, I would imagine. Another thing I like about the program: a broader range of communication topics -- not just mass media or advertising or journalism, but all that and much more. I also like that there are opportunities (and encouragement) to submit work to and participate in conferences and other events. The program is growing; I just wish it were already expanded so we'd have even more options and benefits. Future students will be so lucky!"

"Earning a Master's Degree at Radford University was a valuable decision. I was pushed to learn material that is highly valuable in the workforce since day one of the program (e.g., learning every clinical disorder and criteria in the DSM) which I use daily in my career. Each class was valuable and was taught by teachers who cared and were always available. The teachers were excellent, the classes offered were diverse, and I felt the education was excellent."

"Pros Radford University is located in a quiet safe city of Radford, VA. The campus is beautiful and quiet, which foster good learning environment. Faculties are very friendly and supportive. Various services, such as writing and Counseling services, are provided for students free. Students can access to wifi network anywhere on campus, which allows them to access to the library network to request the materials needed. The library staff can help students find the material via live text chat. The city of Radford has a bus system, which student can ride for free. The music therapy graduate course at Radford University has strong emphasis in developing clinical skill. It also provides opportunity to take level one training in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). Cons The city is pretty small and not very exciting. Also student activities are not very vital for younger students who are interested in developing in social life. The bus runs to Blacksburg, but only for weekends. These environments allow students to focus on their studies."

"The doctor of physical therapy program is new and full of potential. The classes are small, and the faculty is excellent. Each professor is available to help students understand concepts and master specific skills. Located on the 8th floor of Carillion Hospital of Roanoke, it is cutting edge with a dedicated wing."
