Rasmussen University Online Reviews of Associate in Early Childhood Education

Let me start off by saying that the instructors I had were friendly people and I never had an issue with any of my classes. I had fair graders and the instructors were very nice people. That being said, 9 months into my program at Rasmussen, I am "dropping out." When I signed up with Rasmussen, I was told that program was for an Associates degree that would transfer to a Bachelor's program. They failed to mention that it is actually an Associates of Applied Science degree, meaning your credits won't... Read More transfer elsewhere if you choose to do so. When I applied at Rasmussen, I told my program manager and my advisor that I would love to be a teacher one day. They were very encouraging and told me that I would be able to do this at their school. No. I am now finding out that the Education degree through Rasmussen gives you no chance of becoming a licensed teacher. My supporting staff lied to me. Also, I should add that the "Flex Choice" option (CBE Courses) are now only offered to those pursuing a Bachelor's degree. I started off my program at Rasmussen doing the CBE courses because they were ideal for me, as I have chronic illnesses that prevent me from physically attending classes at this time. Starting just this month, they decided that CBE courses would no longer be available to me because I am not in a Bachelor's program. The CBE classes were ideal because they were a work at your own pace class with no real due dates. It was very flexible and very ideal. Here I am, 9 months into my program, finding out that my degree I am paying for will not benefit my overall career goals. So, I dropped out. I am starting at a new school that offers an AS (NOT an AAS) that will then transfer to a University in order for me to get my teaching license. THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE. A school should not advertise education courses and tell their students they can be a teacher if you literally can't! It's ridiculous. Rasmussen is also very stingy when financing their student's education. I come from a single-parent home who makes less than $20,000 per year, and my loans are still $3,000 per quarter. Any other school, I would be basically getting it for dirt cheap, and an entire 2 year degree will be less than $5,000. Rasmussen is a money-hungry institution. ALSO, I just found out that the last day to drop classes was YESTERDAY so I have to pay for the entire quarter, which just started last week! This is absolutely nuts and disgusting. I would never recommend Rasmussen to anyone looking for an affordable education or to someone who wants to major in education. I am so angry at myself for not looking into this further before applying, but they had MULTIPLE opportunities to tell me that it was pointless for me to go there. Like I said, money hungry.

I received my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and I'm currently on my way to earning my Bachelor's. I agree that some of the instructors are a complete waste, but that's my opinion. I prefer to be more self-taught, and ask questions when I need additional information. In a lot of classes I never even used the textbooks because so much of it is common knowledge. I've come across a few instructors that I've had to mix words with over my grades, but all in all, I'm satisfied. I finished my Associate's with a 4.0 GPA and graduated with High Honors. It's not that hard. I would recommend Rasmussen to people that can keep up.

This is a terrible college if you are trying to improve your learning by becoming a daycare teacher. It is a waste of time and MONEY! Especially money! They do not care about you at all and honestly, you will NOT make that much more especially in Minnesota. If you do not renew your CDA on time, which they do NOT tell you how to do it, you are on your own! So if you do not renew it, you have to start ALL OVER! Which is a waste of time AND money! What did you pay for? Nothing but some math problems... Read More that you do not need to know in a daycare. Plus, their CDA is ONLY good for TWO YEARS! When it is really supposed to be good for three years. You do not need your Associates Degree in a daycare setting. This place is absolute b***.

I have had great experiences with this school! I am nearly finished and have gotten an A grade every semester in every class. i work at a Bright Horizons which is a "partner school" with Rasmussen and received discounts for my credits. Most of my professors were fair. Every other semester is seemed i would get a difficult professor but I got through it. This program is not easy, it is hard work but so worth it! i am now able to advance in my early Childhood career thanks to Rasmussen's accelerated... Read More program and flex options. i took 4 FREE classes while attending and enjoyed every minute of it. I have seen so many bad reviews but I have had no negative experiences that weren't resolved. I was even put through to the Dean when i had an issue, there customer service is astounding. I recommend Rasmussen to anyone looking to advance their career within their field of study! I have had nothing, but problems with this college since I enrolled. I can never get a hold of my advisor. I always have to contact her supervisor and then when my advisor finally decides to contact me she is extremely rude and makes me feel extremely stupid. My advisor told me students aren't allowed to talk to financial aid everything has to go through her. I've had a constant battle with financial aid, such as communicating with them and getting answers about my financial aid. My final semester... Read More ends next week and I'm still trying to get in touch with financial aid to see how much of a Pell grant I am still waiting to receive for this semester that started 10 weeks ago. When I enrolled I was told I could take a different path because I was working 2 jobs at the time and didn't have the time to work in a daycare, as well. This different path conducted of 3 additional courses totaling 18 credits. I was told at the time of enrollment that these 3 additional courses would count for the 480 hours required to apply for my CDA. When it came time to apply for my CDA I was informed that I was told wrong and had to have the 480 hours. So I wasted the time to take 3 credits and now have to pay for 18 credit I didn't even need to take, nor was required to. Now, I'm about to graduate and do not have my CDA. I was looking forward to getting my CDA with this program because the school was going to pay for it and now I have to if I still decide to get it. I am extremely disappointed in this school and definitely would not recommend it to anyone. If I could go back and choose a different school, I would in a heartbeat.
