"Rhode Island College is a great school for those wanting to study Education. I attended for two years as a part-time student while working full-time as a high school educator in an inner city public high school. Although attending both college and work was difficult to balance, RIC made it possible to do both."

"From its humble beginning in 1854 as a school for teacher preparation, to its current status as a comprehensive institution of higher education, Rhode Island College has historically served the people of Rhode Island and the nearby region as a college of opportunity. Whether a first generation college student or an established adult pursuing a new career, the school offers programs in arts and sciences, education and human development, nursing, social work, business and professional disciplines. As a Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education candidate in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development at Rhode Island College, I have been generously welcomed and encouraged at every step so far. From the first informational meeting, application process and requirements, crafting a plan of study, receiving financial aid, to registration and attending my very first course, I have received all of the assistance I have needed to start along the path to my graduate degree and new career. The quality of courses I am taking is excellent and relevant, and the faculty has been professional, engaging and kind. I am enjoying the weekly rhythm of attending classes, as well as touching base with my program advisor, financial aid representative, and student assistance office from time to time. I am completely confident that Ive made the right choice for my education and new, second career objectives. When I spend time on campus, I see a diverse group of unpretentious students at various life stages, pursuing their education goals. From my perspective as an established adult graduate student, there is a potential for feeling out of place. The opposite has been true, and I have enjoyed making new friends, meeting peers in my program and experiencing the energy of student life. The campus size is ideal, not confining or intimidating. Student parking is ample, which is important to me as a commuter. There is an excellent campus caf and bookstore in the student center to meet just about every need. Some of the buildings are in need of freshening, and thankfully there is new construction and renovation taking place. This is understandable for a public institution, and it is a good thing to see ongoing support and investment in the schools infrastructure and future. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with my experience at Rhode Island College, and highly recommend it to all."

"With any type of degree you only get out of it, what you put into it. If you don't study and work hard you won't take a lot from a given course. That being said, Rhode Island College provides an excellent opportunity to learn. My advice is to buy your books online. The book store prices are beyond ridiculous. Last time I was in the book store I saw a 3 subject notebook going for $12. I almost wanted to laugh if it wasn't sad enough already. Most of the instructors are great. The parking situation is horrendous plan on coming to school 30 to 40 minutes early in order to park and get to class (especially on Mondays). The tuition is pretty affordable compared to many other neighboring colleges. All around it's a pretty good bang for your buck."

"The Rhode Island College Fine Arts program is one of the greatest in New England, based on an exemplary faculty that is actively showing in the art field, and a brand new, state of the art facility. Zone of the very best values in the area, even for out-of-state students."

"Rhode Island College has many good resources for those wishing to major in the arts. It is affordable and Providence is a great place for artists to flourish and learn. The professors I had were helpful and informative and many also taught at RISD so they were able to provide a lot of great resources. Professors also curate art shows right on campus within walking distance, which makes it very easy to get inspiration. Our Art Center (Alex and Ani Hall) has been recently renovated and has all new beautiful equipment."

"It is an affordable public school option as opposed to where I received my undergraduate degree. However, the content that is being taught in the SSW program is often out dated or misleading. The professors I've discussed my concerns with tend to shy away from conversations regarding content flaws or make up excuses for the continuation of such practices rather than advocating for change. I have found that shocking considering it's a liberal profession in a considerably liberal state and yet it continues to engage in oppressive practices."

"I am very satisfied with my program and I feel I have gained a lot of useful knowledge. This program does not have very many financial aid options."

"There are several pros to the graduate program at Rhode Island College School of Social Work. Our professors are helpful and supportive. We have a diversity of students related to race, age, and students' family dynamic. There is a flexibility to the schedule of classesand compared to other graduate programs, tuition is affordable. There are several internships to choose from and the professors are very approachable to talk about questions about their expectations. Although there are many pros, there are a few cons. Personally, I wish they would talk more about developmental disabilities as this is my chosen field of social work. Even though the times of classes are flexible, the overall program for the second year is demanding. It is mandatory that students take two three-hour classes, in addition to, sixteen hour a week internships. There are several single parent and independent adult students who find it difficult to maintain a household financially, give their families needed attention, and fulfill the commitment to thier educational goals."

"I feel like the overall graduate program is well equipped with good resources, faculty, and overall plan of study. However, there isn't enough financial aid that helps graduate students to ensure they can attend the program."

"The school is very accessible and affordable. The program provides access to professors that are also professionals in the field and work in the community. The internships that are a part of the program give the student the opportunity to gain experience in the field and apply their knowledge and skills in real world setting."
