I have been surprised at the negative comments about Saint Leo. The core values and excellent instructors made this school more than just a degree. For me, the experience as an adult learner was invaluable. The classes were engaging. I never had an issue when/if I needed helped. However the instructors are not there to hold your hand. The expectation is you learn material and keep up with the syllabus. If not it is really sink or swim. My education has made doors open for graduate school. If Saint Leo offered a Master degree in my field I'd go there again, over any school. Go Lions!
The online educational leadership program at St. Leo is terrible. I do not recommend it to anyone. The support from the majority of teachers is non-existent, and forget about writing or calling for help. They will ignore you, because they simply do not care. They only care about getting your money and because they know no other university will accept your credits, they will ignore you. Save yourself time and frustration and pick another school. I will not even put this degree on my wall because it was such a horrible experience. The state of Florida requires 160 hours for your practicum, yet St. Leo spreads it out over 3 semester and requires 450 hours. In short, you will do three times as much work, for twice the cost, and for no reason. The only things I have learned in this program are things I taught myself. If I was self-directed, I would learn nothing. Multiple assignments require you to take pre- and post-tests, and write about what what you learned. However, there are no activities between, and if like me, you receive a 100 on the pre-test, you will be writing 10 pages on learning absolutely nothing. A complete and utter waste of time. Worst.University.Ever.
The classroom format I liked, but sadly that is the only positive about this school. Staff are rude and unhelpful. The university makes you jump through hoops for the most trivial requests. For example, I am filling out AMCAS for medical school application. Because I took a few classes with Saint Leo, I need to enter that information into my application. I simply need an unofficial transcript in order to see the class names and grades. For all other schools I've attended, this has been easy to obtain. I can either log in and view online, or they promptly sent me a copy via e-mail. Saint Leo's primitive method of attaining this simple information has brought my progress to a screeching halt. I have to wait for it to come via snail mail, as this is the only method they use. Also, they do not print unofficial transcripts, the only way for me to view it is to have another official transcript (with fee of course) sent to my house. Every person I talked to about it was extremely rude. In addition, when I tried to drop a class I was having computer difficulties. I sent a request to their helpdesk (I was not in the country and unable to call) a week before the drop deadline. I did not get a response until the day after the deadline (of course). Any attempts to address the situation were met with the same incredibly rude, uncaring response I received with my transcript request. I can't believe an educational institution is run this way. The best decision I've made about my education was to stop attending this school once I realized what a sham it is. I hope to save you the trouble. Please keep searching for a quality school, this is not it.
My wife and I both graduated with a Bachelor's degree from St. Leo University in 2013. I majored in Sociology and my wife majored in Computer Information Systems. I am surprised of some of the negative comments. I admit the financial aid services can be a bit frustrating at times, but not at all unattainable. My online Sociology classes were very demanding (especially quantitative and qualitative social methods); much harder than any face to face class I took while pursuing my AA with UMUC. I participated in 2 major observation projects and the professors were at my disposal. I gained a significant understanding of several subjects to include deviant behavior, social problems, marriage & the family, inequality, and race and ethnicity; in addition to several history classes, and 3 classes in law studies. I really enjoyed my educational journey with St. Leo. My wife does as well. I gained a promotion, which centers on research, because of my degree. My wife has been pursued by several companies and organizations to include Amazon thanks to her degree in CIS; she accepted an IT position with the federal government. I am currently researching a Master’s degree, but one thing is for sure, I will be pursuing it with St. Leo.
I had many issues with the financial aid department. First, they did not use my loans to pay for an entire semester. I was told that I had to make arrangements to pay $1,700.00 back or I could not continue to go to their school until payment arrangements where setup. Second, they discovered that they made another mistake by giving me $900.00 to,much and had to pay it back. Again, all of my college education is suppose to be paid for with student loans. Thirdly, I have received a bill stating that I owe them $149.00. During my time with Saint Leo University their was many issues with the financial aid department. I paid all my debts back to them and was treated as though these mistakes were somehow my fault.
Absolutely terrible. I am extremely disappointed. If you're looking for a school where you can "pay" for your degree, this is the school for you. I literally wrote "Are you even reading this?" on my final paper and got 100%. Unbelievable. I will not be continuing my studies here.
I took this as a personal requirement it has helped me to better understand the importance of the criminal justice system
Even online the instructors are helpful and there for you when needed. They offer times for class to meet in live chats as well as offering assistance through questions on discussion boards. Tutoring is also available through a live chat line. The only issue is with financial assistance and getting the VOCREB posted in order to get supplies for school. This is the third week of class and still hasn't posted so don't depend on that for essentials need from your financial aid refund, as they take it first then reimburse you after VOCREHAB posts.
Ok, Let me first say I started and stopped Saint Leo three times for personal reasons and there wasn't any issues with re-starting the MBA program. Oh, yeah I received my undergrad with Saint Leo as well. There was some issues with instructors--that were addressed, my last course the students were rude and the instructor addressed as well. I had some issues with the accounting--(math) courses that were required online and the instructor was again helpful. Overall I was very excited about completion--and graduation--which I was able to do twice. I am currently waiting on the online Phd program. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!
I was able to finish my BA in psychology at Saint Leo in a year and a half by the ability to double up on classes and complete coursework anywhere. While this is a huge benefit to the school, getting my classes paid for has been a nightmare. I tried both types of federal loans, subsidized and unsubsidized, and they sent the check I needed to sign and return to another student located in a completely different state. I tried private student loans and am still trying to get that fixed, even though my account was cleared with a zero balance for graduation, 3 months ago! While the curriculum itself is okay, the financial aid department has completely spoiled my outlook of this school and their organization.
