"The class sizes are fantastic. What this means is that the student to teacher is relatively small. This allowed the professor to better get to know each student. The professor quality is superb. The assignments allowed students to better understand what they were learning it was not a "worksheet/ chapter/lecture" learning environment. The scheduling of the classes also allowed me to create a schedule that was beneficial for me as well as my daily routines. This university is located in a small college town."

"While the BBA program at SHSU is educational, much of the MBA program is a repeat and allows few concentrations outside of the standard fields. If you're looking to enhance your knowledge and/or get a Concentration in Economics, forget about this university. If you paid attention in your undergraduate courses and simply want an MBA, then this may be what you want."

"The Sam Houston State University graduate program for a Master of Science in Agriculture offers a diverse selection of courses in plant and animal sciences. The best part of this program is the attention given to burgeoning research and professional issues that are imperative for a young professional to be familiar with as he or she enters the diverse arena of agricultural careers. The program may benefit from two changes: a more selective admissions process geared to maintain high student caliber; and a graduate student orientation to facilitate professional discourse between faculty and students early on in the curriculum."

"My graduate program provides me the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the music field. However, this program is really expensive for me. These are the most notable pros and cons of my graduate program."

"The program is rigorous and thorough with great interest and detail from the instructors. The weather is a bit of a pain, but the classrooms are well maintained and air condition. IT needs to keep up with the times however and a computer in my office would greatly improve my studies."

"Overall the courses offered in the Art Department are relevant to a career in that field. The school is looking to build a new Art Department facility in the next 5 yrs and will greatly improve the environment from the temporary buildings currently in use. also this improvement should allow more Art courses to be offered during the Semester and eliminate repetition of certain courses and delay in graduation requirements."

"Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is a small campus located in the town of Huntsville, Texas. Huntsville is about 30 - 35 minutes from Conroe and Spring, which are approximately 30 - 35 minutes from downtown Houston. This important fact has given opportunity for numerous students to attend SHSU. My family and I live in the Spring area. My wife works at one of the many hospitals within the area while our daughter completed her senior high school year. I was able to commute back and forth, while dropping my daughter off to school and picking her up to take her home or to her job. That gave me a chance to study and make dinner all this while attending graduate classes in the mathematics program at SHSU. The campus life is pretty typical for a small university in a small city with its separate yet conjoining histories. The students have more accessibility to the staff, due to the smaller instructor to student ratio, always a plus. The athletic program, which is in the NCAA Division I, Southland conference has held its own in basketball both men and women, football, bowling, tennis, and golf programs. The pricing is less expensive than some of the larger universities and the degree programs are comparable. One of the things that could drive people away from this campus is that at times it could be considered too small for some that want a big city feeling; there is a prison about 10 to 15 miles from the campus. Transportation is necessary in order visit the he safety on the surrounding areas. Another concern is the Administration Offices, like most campus, the Financial Aid Offices are overwhelmed with students and parents looking for monetary assistance for their student usually at the last minute. This has caused problems and concerns on every campus, long lines and short fuses. This is an area that needs to be addressed on all campuses. Like most things it is our responsibility to stay aggressive on locating and finding resources that are available to us to maintain our ability to advance ourselves."

"Pros: the program has great flexible career opportunities, educators, cohort support, and resources. Cons: the campus has a small graduate community, limited network, and small academic influence."

"There's a lot of access to professors and the knowledge you need to pass. The professors are also very understanding and patient. However, there's more homework than I've ever had before and there's very little financial aid help."

"My experience at SHSU was amazing, I had the best Professors. The atmosphere was inviting to someone like me. All of my classmates were all about education as were I. I would actually like to teach at this University once I obtained my Doctoral degree. They were voted one of the best places to work. The quality of my courses could have been a little better. Some of the buildings were old, but other than that. It was great. I would advise anyone to apply to SAM. You will not regret it!"

"I feel the pros of the graduate program are the classes offered at the Woodlands Center and the times in the evenings that classes are offered. I also feel the material being taught is valuable and will be useful in the real world. I feel a con of the program is how many tests are "true/false." As educators, we are taught not to use this type of assessment because it's not best for students, yet our tests are this method. I feel the professors should practice what they preach in regard to assessment."

"The program is extremely good at preparing you for work in the field. I came out of Sam's program ready to hit the ground running and was successful even when working in other states. Though you're not babied by the faculty, they're always willing to assist and give guidance when needed. The only con I can think of is during the assessment classes we had to find children to test on our own, which was difficult for those who didn't have family or community ties nearby."

"The graduate program in the Department of Biological Sciences is very diverse, which is an asset for anyone interested in biology in general. There are several subprograms, but the level of cooperation between the different groups is high. There is always someone around to help out with a specific problem you are having, and offer their different perspective on the situation. Some of the cons is a lack of a higher level of expertise in specific groups due to the small size of the biology department. However, they make up for it by having connections at higher level institutions such as Texas A&M."

"My degree has made my professional life possible. I wanted to be a teacher, and I received excellent instruction in secondary education, along with my double major. I have been teaching for 36 years, so I would say that I have definitely benefited from my Bachelors Degree."

"The pros of the Graduate program are various, from advisor assistant to the teachers in the classroom. Instead of having to wait in the same area with general students, SHSU has graduate programs seperated and focused on just graduates for the programs. No matter how many times you are in their office or send an email, it is always their mission to help you out as much as they can. Even if the process may be drawn out, they hav always been able to answer my questions to the best of my ability and direct me in the right areas to make everything come together"

"SHSU is a very diverse University and has a lot of potential for incoming freshmen to grow and network with others in their desired fields. There are plenty of professors at Sam Houston State to help guide you an offer advice for your career and build friendships as well as networking communities. I enjoyed my experience with friends and building lasting memories and establishing a sound path for my career."

"uses a cohort model which is very helpful because we can depend on each other when things get really difficult. A couple professors, while really good in their field, don't do well teaching particular classes (ones that others also are not their specialty, but someone has to teach them). In these classes I feel we could have better. But overall I think it is a well rounded and strong program and I would chose it again."

"SHSU is a great campus that offers a variety of programs and activities to meet students' needs and/or interest. While the school sits in a remotely isolated city, the surrounding areas like Conroe, Woodlands and even Houston offer a nice change of scenery and room for exploration. Coming from the big city of Dallas it was unusual to adjust to some of the limit of resources but it also enables you to learn and grow from what you have. Although there is no official shuttle for the school, several apartment complexes offer shuttle service to assist students in transportation to and from class and on some occasion social events. There are only a few set backs to SHSU in my eyes. One being the fees associated with attending . While moderately affordable compared to other schools, as of late the cost of attendance has increased a reasonable amount. A second con would be parking availability, as to all universities. Sam Houston has parking but limited to those who seem to need it most. Opposed to those cons I love Sam Houston and will forever. This campus allowed me to recieve an education and made me a better person in and out of the classroom"

"One of the pros of my graduate program is the size of the biology department. It is small enough to know all of the teachers by name and has enough diversity to always have someone around to help solve a problem. The con of the biology graduate program is that there is a lack of funding for many needed supplies."
